Greg Haines releases 'Where We Were', a great, atmospheric meandering album between modern classic, electroacoustic ambient and beat-driven dub-techno The post Greg Haines - Where We Were appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

I've missed out Padna's Burnt Offerings, that was released at the end of 2012. So I'm happy to announce that for my 2013 end-of-the-year-list, this album is considered by me to be a 2013 album. It deserves that attention. The ... Continue reading
For many a music(al) blogger, there are the songs we like and then there are the song we post about. Not to say the two don't overlap sometimes, but when a song isn't BRAND new (December of two-thousand TWELVE?), or high in the totem pole of hippest news on the block, we keep it in [...]

Usually known as the singer of Seabear, Sindri Már Sigfússon's solo project has a new record out by the name of Flowers. While not something that would not be of my usual rotating listens, something about the extremely creativity with folk/pop psychedelia has me hooked. I particularly love this track, "Sunbeam". The charging bass line and ethereal chimes with the "oh, oohs" make it a stupid catchy pop track of sorts. Give it a listen, the whole album is just as good - you should think about buying it. Also - the guy has a doily beard, a [...]
Okay, this is different. Today's Sunday Night Chill is all from one band. That band is The Books. Or rather, that band was called The Books (they are no more today). I've fallen asleep to The Books more times than I know how to count. They were an integral part of my early music obsession days, and I expect have a bit of a cult status (a la Boards Of Canada). Mmmmm it's so good. Haven't really heard a group pull of audio sampling as well as these guys. Image credit: Everyone Loves [...]

2013 transmissions from Basinski + Chartier , AGF , and Simon Whetham notwithstanding, still being received here are four Line Ins from 2012. Lest its late-period labours at the interface between digital minimalism and microsound go unsung, here’s an ear-pique at a spread of chewy offerings from this once Difficult Twin of LMYE label of 2012 , 12k (now, of course, non-aligned, under sole stewardship of Richard Chartier ) that further cement its place in the vanguard of experimental electronics. [...]

It's that time of the year again when music blogs worldwide take a few paragraphs to discuss their favourite albums of the year and make a comprehensive list out of it; who are we to break the trend, so without ... Continue reading

The following is a list of the music that, in a lot of ways, I didn't spend enough time with. It's been a busy year around these parts. The list constitutes positions 31 through 50 of my year-end favorites. I'm pretty sure any one of these albums, given some more time, would have ended up in the top 30. As it is, here is a twenty-way tie for thirty-first place (in descending order). The 2012 Forest Gospel year-end list (in music) is coming soon... 31. [...]

Perhaps one of the most unique-sounding, genre-defying bands ever was now-defunct New York City duo The Books . Members Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong constructed obscure sound from homemade samples, instruments, and other unconventional outlets, presenting the finished products in what can only loosely be called songs. Not the most accessible of music, but it's certainly some of the most important. When Zammuto announced this past January that The Books were splitting up to pursue other avenues, he wasted little time in giving fans a taste of his [...]

LA Vampires feat. Maria Minerva - Seasons Change from Not Not Fun on Vimeo . Maybe it's just being from LA and knowing how bands from here work, knowing that networking is preferable to any kind of legitimate interaction with people, the word friend is an italian word that translates to disposable. In order to accomplish anything in music you have to step on a lot of faces, most bands are guilty of being better business people than you'd ever suspect. Even if you go out to a friend's show they assume you came [...]
