Good morning Vietnam! PEACHCAKE- one of my favorite touring bands that wears masks, gets in the audience's face and commands a killer game of duck duck goose is coming back to Austin this Thursday July 31st at Emo's . This time thru town has a nice little twist to it- it is a stop on their first annual, Make Mixes, Not War! Tour . The concept of the tour urges attendantsvto come bearing mix CD's or tapes., then, they will have a choice. They can either swap mixes with other confetti covered audience [...]

In their first four years together, Peachcake went through more than most bands go through in an entire 20-25 year career (eat that, U2). After their formation in the deserts of Carefree Creek, Arizona, the duo's quest to do something positive led them to release an EP on Jim Adkins from Jimmy Eat World's label Western Tread. In its well-received wake, as perhaps is the nature of things, Peachcake, aka Stefan Pruett (aka Space Panda) and John O'Keefe (DJ JohnO) found themselves suffering a slew of unfortunate incidents, unfair arrests, accidents, arguments, and ultimately, death. With a followup [...]
Come later October, Peachcake is finally releasing a full length debut titled What Year Will You Have the World? They've got some serious history as they've been on and off together for over 5 years. During their various hardships, they released an EP via Jimmy Eat World's label Western Tread which really introduced their electronic, synthy pop sounds led by Stefan and John's vocals. Peachcake is encouraging you to bring mix-tapes to its shows (CDs, tapes, etc.). Bring one and you will be entered into a raffle to win a copy of [...]

As far as I can tell The Sons Of Nazarene is just one dude making some cool ass electronic jamz full of dissonant noise, casio drum machines and a hint of Stay Fly by 3-Six Mafia. The guy's name is Anthony Romero and he wears crazy masks and seems to be an overall weirdo (in a good way, not in a child molester way.) His songs are different, interesting and warrant your fine attention. You can get the whole debut Ep FREE from his myspace site [...]
This is the 3rd duo to appear on these pages in as many days. Aren't good things supposed to come in three's, not sure but Peachcake are certainly a nice thing. The music of Stefan Pruett and John O'Keefe is not all that far removed from what you could expect to hear on mainstream dance radio. Ok, there are squiggly bits but nothing scary enough to put off your average Saturday night boogier. '

Happy New Year! Are you guys ready for another 12 months of my ramblings? I sure hope so, especially considering that I quietly launched the film section yesterday, which means that there will be even more content throughout 2008. There's a good chance I might drive you insane. Or, you'll be entertained and happy beyond belief. Whichever way it may turn out is anyone's guess, but let's get started and see what happens. While I was on vacation it would appear that many promoters and artists were busy filling my inbox. So, in [...]

The local Phoenix/Tempe music community is pulling together tonight for a benefit show at the Marquee Theatre for Mark Covert, who owned Nita's Hideaway, which used to be the best club for live music in the Valley. Covert is in need of a liver transplant, and a Phoenix New Times story details his battle. As the story points out, his reputation is held in high regard as evidenced by tonight's lineup: Jimmy Eat World , Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers , Less Pain Forever vs. [...]

Now let's flashback to when I said in my Octopus Project post, "Around these days, it seems like people are just slapping their music with the label of 'instrumental' in an effort to justify their wordless noise or songs with failed lyrics..." Well, nothing's changed about my view on that, but it's still a hell of a great way to start up a post about the instrumental music that doesn't fill the above criteria. By being either entirely devoid of lyrics or restrained in wording, the song becomes an open book; [...]
