Prior to last night's Red Bull Music Academy dub extravaganza, the last show that I saw at Le Poisson Rouge was a hardcore show, part of the sprawling New York's Alright festival. Naturally, no one ... read more

This year we sent some of our finest writers to witness SXSW first hand and mingle. This could have been a tale of new friendships, drunken friendships, confiscated platinum passes, lost emails and missed deadlines. Oh, and there was also a lot of music... Damn, these have been rocking my iTunes for months now but laziness/selfishness has kept them from being wrapped and gifted for your ears. No time to talk. Get down to the rock.
Black Acre Records' production star, Romare adds a sensuous, worldly flair to Peaking Lights ' latest single, 'Dream Beat'. If it weren’t for the smokin’ hot babe in Peaking Lights video for ‘Dream Beat’, the winner of this round would have to be Romare. Turning up the sex appeal and smoothing out the variegated quirks, the London producer, inspired by West African rhythms, adds body gripping bass, a sultry congregation of percussion, and appropriates perfectly plucked fragments of singer Indra Dunis’ words back into the duo's [...]
Check out Romare, one of our favorite laptop meddler's, first official remix. Its for Peaking Lights and is, predictably, superb.

Chrome Canyon - Chasing The Dead (Peaking Lights Remix) A compelling rework, a smooth disco renegade with a tropical twist of Chrome Canyon ’s Chasing The Dead is what Peaking Lights managed to surface on the psychedelic air. So chilling and relaxing but absolutely groovy (probably the most groovy remix that Peaking Lights ever did!) and placed in strictly psyched [...]
Because of their very public love of dub, Peaking Lights often get labeled as a pure dub band, which is not far off, but they veer more psychedelic at times, using dub as a starting ... read more

It would be all too easy to turn a deaf ear to the work of electronically affected boy/ girl pairings now that The Knife have at long last deigned to return and subsequently; inevitably delight, though to neglect the steely sterility of a similarly newly rereleased Gold Zebra would represent a drastic case of yanking out a tooth to spite one's eye. For Invisible Disorder from Montréal duo Julie and Jean-Phillipe (she sings; he manhandles the synths) is a gelid eight-minute, electronica-infected stalk down darkened 'late-night heartbreaking disco noir' idiosyncrasies lightened only by the lingering influence of Peaking Lights, [...]
![[Listen] Brolin: "Reykjavik" (Peaking Lights remix)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4817343_lg.jpg)

he original appears on his forthcoming Cundo EP, released 25th March on 12" vinyl and digitally by Double Denim.
Between their winding, magnificent Young Galaxy remix and this new, ultra-smooth edit of Brolin 's undeniable " Reykjavik ," it's safe to say that we'd be pretty happy if Peaking Lights handled all remixes going forward. Without adding or taking away very much, the duo is deftly able to heighten the unrelenting sense of longing that rides beneath the original; diving deep and fleshing out what had been buried there all along. Peaking Lights—the endearingly far-out, LA-via-Wisconsin duo we profiled in a GEN F last summer—have remixed UK singer Brolin's Iceland ode "Reykjavik," stretching the track out like a cat in the sun and giving the chilly ... read more

You know, sometimes it takes me a few listens to get into a track. On the first listen, I can start to get the sense that it's going to be good, but I'm just not feeling like it. This is not one of those tracks. "Pretty Boy" comes to us from Montreal synth-pop band Young Galaxy off their fourth album Ultramarine, will be out April 23 via Paper Bag . Even in the first few seconds, the beat grabs you and you know you're listening to something special. By the time [...]

Young Galaxy already make some really pretty music. Peaking Lights decided they could make the music just a tad more pretty. The results...gorgeous stuff.
