Tonight at Lot 1 . The reading/taping starts at 8 p.m. Wolf goes on around 9:30 or so. My latest LA Weekly column assesses the enduring impact of 2Pac a decade and a half later, complete with a new Boosie quote. It's not as good as a new Boosie verse, but we all have limitations. If you're in LA, I hope you can make it. If you're in New York, we have another panel next Tuesday at Housing Works. If you're still wanting more about Biggie & [...]

Max Bell has been known to say, " eh mon ," in mixed company. Stones Throw perennially cracks the top ten (and some years top one) lists for 'The Best Independent Record Label.' The same can be said for Dub Club—the Wednesday night Dub/Reggae/Dancehall show that blasts blunted and bone-soothing bass out of Los Angeles's Echoplex—which should be in the top three on the list of the 'Best Things to Do on a Wednesday in LA' (I don't see it here , but maybe that's a good thing). Whether or not you believe in Jah, he [...]
Chow down on 10 sweet musicians with ravenous names.

What originally started as a way for Peanut Butter Wolf to release the music of his close friend, the late Charizma, in 1996, soon turned in to a cutting edge platform for hip-hop music. Since its earliest days, Stones Throw has been responsible for some of music's most mind-bending releases, including Madvillainy , Donuts , The Unseen and more. Originally a label rooted deeply in hip-hop, Stones Throw continues to push itself outside of the genre lines with the signing of artists like the Stepkids and Koushik. To continue our tribute to some of [...]
Krista is a new collaboration by James Pants (production) and Vex Ruffin (guitar and vocals), executive produced by Peanut Butter Wolf, named after a possibly imaginary woman. They say, "Krista is a sophomore in college ... read more

daiana feuer As Chrome Canyon, Morgan Z makes synthesizer music for the imagination. It’s music with stories and pictures leaking out of its stitches, and lasers and smoke shoot out where one might otherwise fill in the spaces with words. His Stones Throw release Elemental Themes makes you hunger for films starring Harrison Ford on a planet far away in search of bounty. He also writes jingles to pay the bills and has a few deep ideas about what it means to be an artist in the world of today. He has an awesome new flexi in [...]

Fire up the lasers, Chrome Canyon is coming to Mezzanine. New York synth artist Morgan Z – the man behind Chrome Canyon – will headline the electronic dance party on Friday, February 22 with support from local artists including Peanut Butter Wolf , Jonas Reinhardt , Shock , and Chautauqua . Last year, Morgan released his first full-length album as Chrome Canyon, Elemental Themes , via Stones Throw Records [...]

San Francisco's Voltaire Records is throwing one hell of a show on February 22 at Mezzanine, with none other than "chameleon-like" DJ Peanut Butter Wolf opening up for space funk maestro Chrome Canyon . Voltaire founder Randy Ellis, whose label has put out albums by Tussle , Loose Shus , and a bevy of other danceable, electro, krautrock, and analog synth-based bands, has been promoting shows here in SF for the past few years. Next Friday's gig at Mezzanine, [...]
Tuesday's touts: ► Hunter Hunted [ former members of Lady Danville ] play a headlining show at the Troubadour with support from Wardell and Sympathetic Frequencies . ► Ra Ra Riot stops by in support of their new album "Beta Love." That's their video for the title track above. Pacific Air and Cayucas open. ► The Lovely Bad Things continue their residency with the Red Onions , Beach Party , Death Hymn #9 and Heaven [...]

Geoff Barrow's Beak>> is one of our favorite new band ( and our favorite interviews! ) and they'll be headlining this monster show with Vex Ruffin (author of the ripping L.A. Stones Throw and Serato have teamed up to release Stones Throw Serato II , a special two disc release that combines music from the label on two sides, and Serato control records on the other two. To go along with the release, Serato caught up with Peanut Butter Wolf while out in LA as part of their Serato Icon series. Peanut Butter Wolf talks about the formation of the label, and what they've been able to accomplish since. Watch it below.
I've quite literally never seen anything like it. Peanut Butter Wolf of the legendary Stones Throw Records has been quoted as having upwards of 40,000 vinyls in his possession. I guess you could say that's enough music to spin for half a day? Below are the sets, in 4 hour installments as he took it upon himself to make a big deal on 12/12/2012 with a 12 hour set. If you're looking for a better way to relax or need some sweet background noise, look no further than the vibes of PBWolf. [...]

After an excellent feature thanks to the guys at Serato, Peanut Butter Wolf hops into the Boiler Room to put on whopping 12-hour DJ set. Of course, over a 12 hour period, you can expect to hear a lot of music, all of which is going to kick ass. And knowing Peanut Butter Wolf, you can bet your bottom dollar there are going to be exclusives scattered throughout. We are just digging into this now, but please let us know if you spot any real standouts while you listen. There is no telling if we will be able [...]

Peanut Butter Wolf is the man at the helm of Stones Throw, one of the most important record labels of the past two decades. Not only has he been behind an incredibly eclectic catalog of extraordinary releases, but he's an individual with a wealth of music knowledge that is truly staggering. Serato recently spoke with the legend as a part of the Icon Series and gave PBW a chance to dish about the origins of Stones Throw, how he got involved with music, and his insane collection of records and music related goodies. It's worth repeating that seeing [...]

Stones Throw Records is home to some of the most influential people in the history of hip-hop, as well as a place for artists who wanna explore their own strange and wonderful directions , and founder/producer/DJ Peanut Butter Wolf is the guy who started it all. This Sunday, he'll be meeting with a few people to explain how he did it, and how you can build your own label, too! L.A. RECORD and the Sonos Studio will be partnering with Stones Throw to host a very-limited-space Q&A [...]
Early on Jonti released Sine + Moon on Stones Throw Records featuring the track "Saturday Night Songs," but he wasn't quite satisfied with it I suppose. He went back into the studio with his friend Peanut Butter Wolf and re-recorded it, fleshing out the track with a few more arrangements. He then retitled the tracks, "Saturday Night." I love the way the strumming sounds on this recording, and the backing vocal echoing in the far off distance.; it's the intimate [...]
Jonti's "Saturday Night"—formerly a rough and spare track called "Saturday Night Songs," backed by a single ukulele, and now fully-fleshed and polished thanks to a re-recording with Stones Throw label head Peanut Butter Wolf—is an ... read more
