Piper and Skylar are two sisters from Los Angeles making casual sun drenched tunes under the name Pearl harbor . Only begining last year and already an EP release on the Mexican Summer label ensures they will quickly spring into the group of popular beach house recordings floating around. At least we now have a couple of girls who also admit to enjoying staying up all night and getting stoned. Their single 'Luv Goon' offers the repetitive unplugged guitar rhythms similar to other gazed Californian bands. With this track though what stands out is the [...]

A couple months ago we introduced you to Piper and Skylar, aka L.A. dream-pop duo Pearl Harbor, via " Luv Goon ," a song from their Mexican Summer 12". The track calmly transformed a bedroom into a wave pool with its slippery guitar and warm vocals. Or, as I said then, "Think about Washed Out's hazier ambiance combined with Real Estate's margarita-sipping Galaxie 500-isms." It's tacky quoting yourself, okay, but I think the description fits "California Shakedown," a song from their Wish We Were Here CD-R. (Though on this one you'll have to make sure the margarita's frozen, [...]
TIme again for L.A. RECORD's release party—this time with Piper from Pearl Harbor (as seen on the cover of the new issue) and Cole from Haunted Graffiti joining us in the back booth with the turntables plus who knows what other special guests? Free as always and starts at 9 PM—21+ since it's a bar [...]

New issue! See you at the release party Monday! Find print issues here and contact us if you'd like to advertise in the next one!

It's been an entirely too long week for me, and I've only barely managed to scrape together a mixtape. Hopefully, things will calm down soon enough, and I'll be back on top of things, until then... Tracklisting: Band Of Skulls - I Know What I Am (Album Version) Brown Shoe - The War Frightened Rabbit - Swim Molina [...]

Piper and Skylar (and live member Cody) make up the dreamy, peace-loving Los Angeles fuzz-pop band Pearl Harbor. They have a four-song 12" forthcoming on Mexican Summer, the label that also recently brought you releases by the similarly sandy Washed Out, Real Estate, etc. That's actually a nice place to start: Think about Washed Out's hazier ambiance combined with Real Estate's margarita-sipping Galaxie 500-isms. Or, take a listen to the collection's second track "Luv Goon." It opens with warm arpeggios and a tinny drum machine: When the vocals and a slippery guitar enter the picture, the bedroom's transformed into a [...]

Pearl Harbor - "Luv Goon" From the Something About The Chaparrals EP, available now digitally , and on 123 come next month, from Mexican Summer . (via Pitchfork )

MP3: Pearl Harbor - Luv Goon Mexican Summer has done it again: come October we can jam out the 12 inch ep of Pearl Harbor 's "Something About the Chaparrals". I've been streaming "Luv Goon" on their myspace a whole ton lately and am very pleased that the mp3 has been released. It certainly does well to tide me over until the actual release. Seriously, listen to this, it's the soundtrack of your best dream, pop.

I've been loving this new tune from L.A.'s Pearl Harbor (as well as their whole Calistonia Dreamin' cd-r) for a few weeks now (via myspace ), and now P4k has the mp3. Look for this one on the group's forthcoming Something About the Chaparrals 12" on Mexican Summer : mp3: pearl harbour :: luv goon *********

Ladies grab your paisley and gents, fish those drainpipe jeans out of your dresser...we're going to a luau! Neverever , Best Coast and Pearl Harbor are celebrating Sunday at Territory Records beginning at 5PM. California gals are the best. Best Coast - Sun Was High (So Was I) Pearl Harbour - Lost @ Sea Neverever - The Young Runaways [via transparent ]

Found some dreamy new babes from the west coast laying down light and breezy new wave tunes a la Cocteau Twins (dunno, maybe the picture they've got up gave it away). I was able to locate Dunes through their peaced out buds Pearl Harb☮r , who will be playing a show together in October at The Smell (the great Best Coast also happens to be on the bill). Hasn't been easy to get in touch with these guys, but they've allowed me to share some good music with yall today. [...]
I just have to say that Pearl Harbor is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. That's just awful, man. How could they not see that it's awful? I mean, at the first screening, couldn't they TELL it sucked eggs? I can just see the conversation between producer Jerry Bruckheimer and everyone else... I have a feeling some sort of Bugs Bunny trickery happened there [...]

The Pearl Harbour sisters have released the name, album art (above) and label for the Something About the Chaparrals 123 due out in the fall and the lucky winner is... Mexican Summer ! Too bad they couldn't hit up the Party In The Pines , but I can understand how it'd be difficult to lug piles of amps into Big Sur. Can't wait for this one - one small step for weed pop, one giant leap for the 'LA sound.' Pearl Harbour - Lost @ Sea oh, [...]

Ernest Greene hat mit seinem Projekt Washed Out eine Genre-Diskussion angestossen. Wir stossen mit. Seine Debüt-EP "Life of Leisure" ist grosses Kino.
Pearl Harbor's music is one that connotes taking the most awesome sailboat trip of your life in the marina where Dennis Wilson drowned. Somehow his spirit floats to the top and incarnates itself into these rather young-looking purveyors who have based themselves upon that familiar sound.
