There's something to cheer about for the following Irish artists to have a nomination for the Irish Music Television awards to take place in The Sugar Club on Friday November 27th. The best thing about this for me is that I never heard of the website before and have had a chance to check out some cool videos from Irish Artists. It's very much weighted towards the alternative genre but I'm delighted for acts such as Sean Needham, Miss Paula FLynn and Enda Reilly to have been included. 1.BEST LIVE VIDEO LISA HANNIGAN [...]

Fair play to Declan for playing a new tune on the excellent BandWagonTV. I love the addition of the singular Oldcastle church bell about a minute from the end of the tune! Go to the Bandwagontv youtube channel for more videos from the likes of Pearse McGloughlin, I Am Not Lefthanded and Little Palace: http://www.youtube.com/user/Th eBandWagonTV

Pearse McGloughlin has packed a lot into his musical career. The Sligo man has been in several bands (only one of which I was aware of - Walkperson) but he rather wisely decided to go all eponymous on his new album 'Busy Whisper'. And what an apt title it turns out to be as the softness throughout is punctured by McGloughlin's strong vision. The album is soothingly even throughout with the vocals reigning supreme over the mild acoustics. 'Long Day' and especially 'Changeling' stick out as obvious singles. The latter is beautifully realised, with instrumentation that in many places rivals [...]

On Friday I had the pleasure to be in the company of many fine musicians at The Purple Sessions in Drogheda. Herm were massively impressive, Pearse McGloughlin brought his amazing debut album to life with a nice little set but the big winner on the night was Nick Carswell sans his 'Elective Orchestra'. Here's the press info: Nick Carswell & The Elective Orchestra Bio Based around the songs of Nick Carswell, the Limerick-based Elective Orchestra have been busy making music since the end of 2007. Renowned for their warm emotive sounds and delicate arrangements, they have [...]
Firstly there was an interesting debate about music reviews; in particular about the reviewing of Irish artists in the media over at http://www.irishtimes.com/blog s/ontherecord/2009/07/28/why-w riting-about-irish-bands-can-b e-bad-for-your-health/ I kinda regret going to Ikea today and maybe I would have contributed to the debate. However I have read all 100 plus comments and the only opinion I have is that I am even more convinced that the future lies with finding music blogs you associate with. In this blog I write about bands I like. I ignore requests for reviews from artists I dont particularly [...]
![Pearse McGloughlin - Busy Whisper [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1881243_lg.jpg)
The very best thing about music blogging is finding that one amazing song nestled in an album by a new artist. Pearse McGloughlin has just released his debut album called Busy Whisper and it's a great album. It will be in my "best of" lists for 2009. Pearse from Sligo has a voice I compared before on the blog to Neil Halstead from Slowdive and that is very much in evidence throughout the album. The songs are well crafted compositions full of beautiful melodies. A wide range of instruments such as violin, cello, double bass and dobro are [...]

I been meaning to write about Pearse McGloughlin for some time. The much travelled Pearse has a debut album ready to go for the summer and a host of dates to support it. As I write this I am listening to his MySpace tunes which are full of warm melodies and gentle soundscapes. Pearse's voice is similar to Neil Halstead from Slowdive over gentle guitar chords and arrangements. I'm cerainly looking forward to the debut but you can have a sneak peak with the sample mp3 below! Pearse McGloghlin - Ways To Kill [...]
