I try to recommend new releases the week they are released. Some albums slip by me, though, and deserve recognition once I’ve heard them. This is one of those albums. Peasant – Bound for Glory | CD Vinyl MP3 Download...

by teepoo I caught a little bit of Peasant's set, it was calm and nice but it was 2am and by this time, I didn't want to see any more one-man-keyboard-and-backing-t rack acts. I just checked out his Bandcamp though (because I didn't remember much of Saturday night), and his tunes are actually quite lovely. Bound for Glory by Peasant Gallery
Peasant - Bound For Glory By Richard Wink I reviewed Peasant ’s second album On the Ground back in 2009 for The 405. I unfavourably scored the album, and questioned Peasant’s artistic integrity. When re-reading the review I perhaps was a little harsh. Therefore when the opportunity to review Bound For Glory arose I was intrigued hear if Peasant aka Damien DeRose had grown as an artist, and I could somehow make amends by writing a more positive review. Subconsciously, I wondered - was I [...]
Special thanks to all of the bands for coming to our studio, and to John Vettese for recording them. We’d also like to thank volunteer production assistants Fred Knittel, Madeleine Lesperance, and Dan Malloy as well as photographers Kate Bracaglia, Corey Cohen, Sarah Fry, Shamus McGroggan, Noah Gabriel Merenda, Sylvia Ramirez, and Heidi Schlenzig for sharing ... Damien DeRose has been making moody folk tunes under the pseudonym/stage name of Peasant since 2008. Each album has found DeRose more comfortable in his own sound and strengths. Though his albums, On the Ground and Shady Retreat, were greeted with notable praise, his latest offering, Bound for Glory , is arguably the most thoughtful, effortless sounding record to date. The final destination of Bound for Glory is somewhere between familiar and familial. Most of the time it is vaguely similar in composition, or a drum part or strum [...]
It's a big week for music in a number of ways - Record Store Day and Coachella are both this weekend (actually an unprecedented Weekend 2 at Coachella) as well as our favorite new singles from Best New Releases of the week. A great way to kick-off this playlist mix is with Maps & Atlases' [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
If you haven't been listening to Peasant, now's a great time to start. The project of Bucks County-bred singer-songwriter Damien DeRose is about to release its fantastic fourth full-length, Bound for Glory, on the UK-based Schnitzel Records; across a baker's dozen tracks, the album really brings Peasant's music alive. Formerly situated in the quiet, contemplative ... Continue reading
Showtime's United States of Tara follows the life of the Gregson family: father Max, daughter Kate, son Marshall, and mother Tara/T/Buck/Alice. Winner of two Emmys and a Golden Globe, this comedy-drama stars Toni Collette as a suburban wife living with dissociative identity disorder trying to handle her marriage, two teenagers, and job - all while just recently coming off meds. So when stress arises, she shifts involuntarily into one of her various alternative personalities: 16-year-old rebellious "T," male Vietnam vet "Buck," 19502s housewife "Alice"... I give mad props to the show - taking a fairly serious illness and [...]
Photo by Heidi Schlenzig Before playing their CD release show at World Café Live late last month, Bucks County indie trio Peasant - fronted by singer and songwriter Damien DeRose - recorded a Key Studio Session just downstairs from the stage they'd be playing. While DeRose's songs are notably soft and introverted, the material on ... Continue reading
Peasant (aka Damien DeRose) makes music that is good for two types of days: cloudy ones, when you lie around the house doing nothing, and the sunny ones, when you lie outside doing nothing. DeRose’s breezy vocals and acoustic guitar are reminiscent of Elliot Smith, but with more hopeful lyrics. Like his previous songs, Peasant's ... Continue reading

Damien DeRose, a.k.a Peasant , has gained critical acclaim for his previous two releases, especially the highly regarded Shady Retreat . But the upcoming follow-up, Bound for Glory might be Peasant's most complete and multi-layered release to date (it has already gained DeRose some airtime on BBC Radio and MTV Studios). When he celebrates the album's release at World Café Live tonight, it will also be the local debut of his new full band lineup that features members of Former Belle and Sparta Philharmonic. This will also be Former Belle's final local show before [...]

Damien DeRose has garnered a number of Elliott Smith comparisons for this homespun folk-pop project, Peasant , and while they seem apt with regard to the recording approach (double-tracked vox/guitars, light harmonies, et al.), these bittersweet tunes feel a lot more steeped in hope. For example, here’s Bound for Glory single “The Flask,” a wistful new cut better suited to an overcast afternoon than, say, 2:45 in the morning .

I know of one Leap Year song and it's by Maria Taylor. You can find it on spotify . But, it's not really what I feel like posting. Instead treat yourself to this handful of random tunes. Photo by Sean Boltron / www.seanboltonphotography.com Late last month, the new Philadelphia satellite of international house-concert series Songs From a Room welcomed Philly folk collective The Spinning Joneses (that's The Spinning Leaves + Hezekiah Jones ), local spoken word artist Ms. Wise and Asbury Park's Lightning Jar to a living room in Queen Village. This was the second installment of SoFAR Philly - the debut featured a set from contemplative Bucks County singer Peasant - and the next event is planned for [...]
