By Alex Brenner Although I must say 2012 has been pretty good musically so far, I always find myself digging up some older records. When I say older I'm talking about late 902s and up, not the classics. Talking with fellow A-Lister Rube, the other night we did a little reminiscing and it got me thinking about some great records of the past. The ones where you say "Oh man, I have not heard that in forever!" I do listen to tons of new music too, however, these are some you may have forgotten about or [...]
Set to release his 12th album Maraqopa on February 12th, Damien Jurado is one of those lasting songwriters that just won't stop making great records.

Pulling off Christmas songs is not an easy thing to do. According to one study , holiday themes make for some of the most unappealing music ever . New Christmas songs are usually pretty horrible and worthless, and covering the classics that we've all heard a million times just seems pointless most of the time. But this kind of talk is for the grinches. Every now and then, a band gets it right, and since it's Christmas, we've put together a few holiday songs that we actually enjoyed. From Zooey in a little red dress doing [...]

The holiday season is upon us (also basketball season, finally). But mostly, it's the season of ugly sweaters, drunk uncles, and, if you're a teenager, enough gift cards to paper your walls because nobody knows what to get you. We here at The Wild Honey Pie are better at Christmas shopping than your great Aunt Mildred, though. We put together a holiday playlist full of classics and indie favorites that will keep your earbuds warm when the weather outside starts to get frightful. There's no better soundtrack to accompany the decking of halls, the nogging of eggs, [...]
David Bazan remains earnest and eager.

Quiet Company are recording a series of covers of their favorite artists, and this one happens to be one of my favorite artists as well. David Bazan / Pedro The Lion played a huge part in the development of my taste in music, and "When They Really Get To Know You They Will Run" is one of my favorite tracks. Watch Quiet Company do it justice here, then head over and join their Patronism site to check out the rest.
Just about a week ago Casey Crescenzo of The Dear Hunter took a shot at this same PDL classic. Dan Smith of Listener must've been taking note as at a recent show he dropped his take on it with the help of The Chariot frontman Josh Scogin. If that sounds like an odd combination that's because it is. As you'll see in the video, Smith's off kilter spoken vocal delivery doesn't translate very coherently, but don't let that put you off from his dynamic. As you'll [...]
Thanks to all my readers for hanging in there during a year of insane schedules for me that made my updates less than regular. According to the statistics, I've actually lost quite a bit of daily readers this calendar year for reasons that seem clear. I probably haven't posted nearly as often as in past years and not nearly as much new music. Or maybe there's other reasons. But there's still enough daily readers for me to want to continue, so thanks for continuing to come. And if there's a reason you personally do not come by here as often [...]
Filed under: News , Video , New Music , Exclusive WMG We enjoy a good cover song as much as the next music fan, but we really love when an artist makes a song their own thanks to a personal connection to the source material. Such is the case with Dear Hunter frontman Casey Crescenzo's solo take on Pedro the Lion 's 2002 cut 'Priests and Paramedics,' which was recorded at Atlantic Records. [...]
The Dear Hunter's Casey Crescenzo takes on one of my all-time favorite Pedro The Lion track's in "Priests and Paramedics" . You don't have to tell me twice. Also, and ample reminder to give Control some hefty spins this season.

We love Chris Farren, and we love David Bazan (side note, I once read a quote by someone who said "Bazan makes me feel so unified with the world" and that's probably the truest thing I've ever read), so we're stoked that Camera By Her Side got Fake Problems' (the official Favorite Band of The Ruckus) Chris Farren to cover Pedro The Lion's "When They Really Get To Know You They Will Run": While you're here, check out this interview with Chris and Ruckus hero Casey Lee: [...]
So far this summer I've had gout (or thought I did), I've worn a boot for 4 weeks, I've been in the ER for the first time since I was a kid, I've celebrated a birthday that no one young has ever celebrated, I've been seasick on a cruise, I'm still oddly seasick from the cruise, my house lost its power from a hurricane for 4 days, I haven't run once, I haven't exercised since June, our softball team lost in the first round of the playoffs without me, I've been to 5 different doctors for my foot injury and [...]

Strange Negotiations is out now on Barsuk Records As a solo artist, David Bazan moves slow. Not to fault the guy, he has a family to look after, but since his Pedro the Lion slash-and-burn in 2006, Bazan has only released two full lengths. His first, 2009's Curse Your Branches , a searing secular statement against his former faith, took at least three years to write and record. The product was overwhelmingly cohesive. Bazan's message of agnosticism bordering on atheism fueled by depression and alcohol is impossible to miss. [...]
