Bear Hands at Siren Music Festival (07/18/2009) Photo : Jon Klemm Hey, so Bear Hands played a lot of shows during CMJ this year and garnered a fair amount of attention, but this post isn't really about that, it's more or less a convenient excuse to put up a long lost set of BH pictures from this year's Siren Festival. Here's a little more information about the Overflow Magazine party they are playing this Thursday night ( Dec 10 ) at Littlefield [...]
by john ziegler Peephole , Brooklyn's own electro-pervs, debuted a new line-up last night at Southpaw, drubbing onlookers with their special blend of New Wave paranoia, electro-pop tension and glam attitude. Since forming the band 2 years ago, head peeper Kent Odessa has rearranged his personnel, including himself, switching from lead vocals only to now lead guitar as well. Behind him these days is Noah Pavlov on bass and backup vocals, Willie Mayo behind the drum kit, Kate Schweitzer [...]

THE RUMBLE: BROOKLYN returns this Wednesday night to SOUTHPAW in Park Slope for another night of great music by bands on their way up. The party is brought to you by Future Sounds, DeFalco Presents, WOXY, Sound Fix Records and Stranded In Stereo. Headlining is a band that should be on everyone's radar by now, BODY LANGUAGE , with their electronic finesse, having worked with folks like Passion Pit on their first recordings. The ladies from Philadelphia, [...]

Well, as promised I'm givin you Peephole's second EP "Cold Dime" which you can get on their site for free. I don't know what it is about this band, but they just sound different than all the other Indie acts out there...this EP is more somber than "Strawberry Told Me," however it is still very organic. Real music, y'know.. Anyways, sit back and soak in the music, you'll like it. I know it... Guilty Boat Black Topaz Good Luck, Mikey [...]

We're pleased to announce the line up for this month's RUMBLE: BROOKLYN @ Southpaw on November 18th. One of our new favorites, and a regular on the FS radio show on WOXY, is BODY LANGUAGE and their electronic finesse, as they headline a strong four band bill in Park Slope. The Philly based act, EAST HUNDRED support and newcomers PEEPHOLE and AERIAL EAST round out the pre-Thanksgiving Rumble. Party starts [...]

Friends, Romans, 'Lectro kids....Salutations! 'Tis been a week since we last talked, I hope you all survived your weekend with only a few scratches and bumps. Send some feedback on what you were doing; let's make this site a bit more socially interactive... Alright, guys, this week you're gettin spoiled. I've received tons of good stuff and I am willing to exhibit all of it in the coming days. The centre piece of this week's posts is a Brooklyn based band called Peephole . These guys really caught my attention. There are a lot of so-called Indie [...]

New track surfacing from Brighton's Peepholes and (if you're familiar with their previous works) are starting to purvey new dronings and lo-fi sounds. They've always been abrasive but "Airforce Trainer" adds accessibility without abandoning their core. Self-releasing a couple of 73s so far and in the process of releasing a new 123 on Hungry For Power . There is no title or tracklisting for this piece of plastic, but this should serve as a starting point for what to expect. Peepholes - Airforce Trainer [via NPIP [...]

[ via ] Kind of all over the map today. Let's go for a ride, shall we? Here's a little mix of retro psychedelia and just flat out weirdness from Strangers Family Band . It's like finally getting a date with that gorgeous girl, taking her to see a revival showing of Blowup , then getting so lost in the movie you forget to make your move. MP3: Strangers Family Band [...]

[ via ] It's gonna be a good week - I can feel it in my bones. That's my story anyway and I'm stickin' to it. The release from this past week I've been most looking forward to but for reasons various haven't actually gotten my hands on is the new A Place To Bury Strangers album Exploding Head . I have, however, been following their tour blog , which is entertaining. But, oh my, the massiveness of "In Your Heart" - one of the [...]

Peepholes God knows what it took to create some of these guitar tones. A fun uninhibited riot, the likes of which you don't normally encounter in these cultivated parts. A bit like Wavves, but without the pacifying "beach" vibe. Gonna try and see these guys live first chance, as I'm sure it's quite the carousal. Peepholes - Bagel ( mp3 )

Raphael Saadiq's recent winter release, The Way I See It, is as close to a nostalgic old soul road trip as you can get. Not wanting to retrofit an established sound, Saddiq just makes great sound even better. He'll be touring for the entire month of March; should be a show well worth the admission. mp3: Let's Take A Walk Raphael Saadiq: Website • MySpace [...]

(photo by Deneka Peniston) Twee band alert you guys! Sounding like The Shins if James Mercer was obsessed with soundtracking movies like "Foxy Brown", New York's Peephole create shimmery-as-all-get-out pop tunes that reek of goodness and jangle their way into your heart valves. The band, a Craigslist creation that married an astrophysicist, a disgruntled liquor store employee, a mailman, a puppet theater performer and an ex-stripper, have only really around for about a year, but they exhibit the sort of taut instrumentation you'd find from a group that's been together for a decade. If you don't [...]

(photo by Joel Didriksen) Along with openers Peephole , Monday night will also be the last full band performance ever for the NYC band Men, Women and Children . The Gay Blades , maybe the best duo of rock-with-your-you-know-what-o ut, spazzy, shlocky tunes ever, are still playing in support of September's epic, trashy, annihilating Ghosts . Show starts at 8pm. (mp3) The Gay Blades - Hey She Say Godspeed!

Anyone got a ticket to Brooklyn? I need to go. I can't take it anymore. I have to find out how so much good music can come from one place. Here is yet another great group from the Big Apple. I peeped Peephole through Bell's MySpace. Glad I did. Their main man is called Kent Odessa. What a name. Its nearly as good as mine. Aside from great nomenclature, their music is really where its at. The currently unsigned, Peephole , draw from the legends Prince, Bowie and Serge [...]
Peepholes Genre: Eccentric / Indie From: Brighton, UK The Devil's postie recently popped the new self produced EP, the enigmatically titled 'Stop Picking On Aretha Pudding', from Brighton's extremely odd couple Peepholes, through my letter box. I eagerly opened the package with memories of the radical feminism, punk values and indie idealism of their last Riot Grrrlesque EP, 'Teen Hero' flooding my brain, to [...]

Apparently the unsigned Brooklyn based electro-pop duo, known as Peephole , enjoy talking to pieces of fruit...so much so that they wrote a song about it. "Strawberry Told Me" is a an all-around cooler than thou, Prince-influenced track with a hook that you wont be able to get out of your head. Singer and "senior fruit whisperer" Kent Odessa coos the semi-retarded but inspirational line "Strawberry told me/Cranberry showed me/You never should listen to baker's bologna/Ah-hoooooo" (The the Ah-hoooooo is the best part, the whipped-cream, if you will). Berry, berry awesome! Also [...]
