It's becoming an annual event in Ottawa. You can say it is the start of summer. I am talking about the Great Glebe Garage Sale . You must be wondering why I am posting something that isn't music related on this site. There is a music angle to this. I think this year I noticed some live music happening at the Great Glebe Garage Sale. Here are some of the acts that I encountered. • Dry River [...]

![The Pelts & Suns of Stone @ Zaphod Beeblebrox [March 10, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4123717_lg.jpg)
It was the last night of Zaphod Beeblebrox 's 20th Anniversary week long event. They ended it off with Bourbon&Spice Burlesque who I didn't see. But there were two band that played • The Pelts • Suns of Stone (No site yet since they are brand new) Both of these acts was my first time seeing them live. They were really good. Suns of Stones having that [...]
What a weekend. Just think, a week from today I'll either be living the high life - on cloud nine - sharing a mix tape in celebration of the New York Giants winning the Super Bowl, or I'll be the brunt of every joke made by my six Boston-native roommates if the Patriots win. I'm [...]
You know what they never address on the Survivor season finales? What happens to the digestive systems of the last three contestants after 39 days of near-starvation, when they get that final breakfast delivered to them. Because I know if I lived off of only rice and fruit for over a month, the first time [...]

Ottawa - "Your prom turns into a Tarantino soundtrack" is the intriguing description I read of The Pelts which drew me to The Rainbow Bistro on Saturday. Having never heard anything from this rockabilly/ garage/Mersey beat four-piece, from the moment they appeared on stage in skinny suits, with a little pompadour hair and two-toned shoes, I knew we were in for a good time. And boy, I was right. By the end of the night, there wasn't a person left in a seat as we were all up giggling at their witty lyrics, and cutting a rug to [...]
The Los Angeles Times has a tad bit more journalistic integrity than I do, so you're more likely to trust their opinion than you are mine. The reviewer on hand at the Walt Disney Concert Hall was far less impressed than I was with "Paradise Lost." But I wasn't there trying to imagine the concert [...]

With festivals every single weekend, it's hard to imagine that any one could be that different from the rest. But if nothing else, Chicago's two-year old Neon Marshmallow Festival proves that assumption so very wrong. The noise/drone/electronic/general ly avant-garde acts that pummeled the crowd for three nights won't be filling out even the earliest of slots at Coachella or Lollapalooza, and the fans who filed into work Monday morning with damaged ear drums and huge grins on their faces wouldn't want it any other way. Neon Marshmallow is, in a word, weird. In two words, delightfully weird. [...]

I'm exhausted. It's been a long day and a long week, and I am looking forward to a good night of sleep tonight. This week should be a little more laid back than the previous one, and will provide me with opportunities to go out into the world and have some fun. I think. I don't really know. We'll see, I guess. The only thing I know for certain is that today is Sunday, which means I have to compile for you a new mix tape. It's Sunday Mix Tape time! RULES for uninitiated [...]

Pitchfork and others report that the enigmatic guitarist Jack Rose has passed away after a heart attack aged 38. Can't say anything meaningful that might take away the pain from my stomach on this godawful sunday. He was on the top tier of my artists both musically and as the impact their death would cause, and death hits the bullseye once again 38 year old Rose was the top guitarist on the bill for every serious music listener. He was the standardbearer of John Fahey and Robbie Basho 's [...]

From Three Lobed Recordings [via TMT ]: Sorry for the random update, but Three Lobed Recordings is extremely sad to pass along news that our dear friend Jack Rose passed away this morning in Philadelphia at the age of 38. This news is still fresh to us and we're still trying to process it. Jack was a warm, caring person and was always a pleasure to be around. His larger than life spirit will truly, truly be missed even moreso than his inspired musical ability. Our deepest sorrow goes out to his wife. [...]

God help me if the next two weeks are anything like today was at work. I'm going to be such a miserable piece of shit. I'm trying to think positively about my temporary schedule change, but it's so depressing. I might as well be one of those cult goons standing on a street corner near the "Dream Center," handing out lemonade to passing cars. That's how useless I feel. When I took a short 15-minute break today, I found myself walking across the street for a soda, and I had a vision of myself five hours later crying over a [...]

• In Australia, one third of women will have sex with someone they met online on the first date, and three quarters of those will do so without a condom. I've always liked Australia, maybe it's high-time I pay their lovely country a visit. Meanwhile, in America, twenty-seven percent of women will engage in oral sex on the first date. I guess that's pretty good, too, but I think we could stand for a slightly higher percentage. Towards the end of the article, some prim and proper lady says, "Just because you talk to someone online does not mean you [...]
What the hell is with people? They're constructing video diaries (diaries, more like diarrheas! Thanks, I'll be here until I die or give up writing) on websites like YouTube, sharing all their innermost secrets with thousands of viewers. Isn't that sort of hypocritical? I mean, shit. When I was young I was under the impression that a diary was a daily record (usually kept by girls) of events, a place for self-reflection, and a safe haven for personal information. A diary was kept under lock and key. Boys didn't keep diaries, nor were they allowed to read them. Yet, somehow [...]

The heat wave continues. I spent all afternoon in the Glendale Barnes and Noble reading various texts to pass the time. The few times I stepped outside I could instantly feel the sun scorching my skin. My car's thermometer measured the air temperature at 108 degrees. I thought that was a little high, but the owner of the market around the corner from my apartment said the one in his store reached 105. I think it's supposed to continue like this for another day or two. I need to find something else to do tomorrow to occupy my mind. If [...]
I'd make an April Fools joke, but I don't have the technological wherewithal to do something that would confuse you. The newest episode of The Best Podcast You Have is coming tomorrow! Wait until you hear this one, it's easily the funniest one in the entire Circulations Amethyst series. Mets/Cardinals tonight has all of my attention at the moment, so here is a quick (but potent!) mix for y'all to enjoy... RULES for uninitiated noobs : With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be [...]
