Date Friday, April 19th Location Mohawk Doors 9:00 PM Tickets $9 @ the Door Seems like there is a worthy show every night here in Austin, and while I know tons of bands are playing, I'm hanging my hat on The People's Temple show over at Mohawk Friday night. This last year saw the release of their [...]

Dead Professional , the new one-man project from John Harouff of The Cinnamon Band, released a new alt-country/pop track called "Don't Be Cruel" that's full of layers of vocal harmonies and handclap drum machine percussion. Loving this song so much. Dead Professional will be performing at Strange Matter on Monday, April 8 with The People's Temple, Bad Magic and Marinero . He'll also be playing at MACRoCk in Harrisonburg this weekend and the Tom Tom Festival in Charlottesville April 13-14.

Gut punch intro with proper soul-moan grunts, the title track to The People's Temple 2012 joint is a swift kick to wake everyone the fuck up. While the debut was good, Masses does it one better. Howling psych-rock still riffing on all our favorite sixties touchstones, it's a headier, funkier, brew this time around. It [...]

Peoples Temple of America aren't flashy. In fact, they may be the opposite of flashy. But it's that raw minimalism that's the most attractive about their music. The indie rock trio's steady, watery guitars are the perfect foil for Ben Leach's urgent punk rock delivery that will undoubtedly catch be attention of Japandroids and Titus Andronicus fans. "Outliers" is the first single from Peoples Temple of America's debut, "P.T.A.," which is due out today. Well, technically tonight at their Quencher's show. And though lyrically it's a bit mystical, the song is a fiery ball of [...]
The People's Temple, "Restless"

Here's the list of my favorite albums outside of Seattle for 2012. You may think it's late, but you should know I got it done before the Russian New Year. Kevin Shields, you still have a few more days. 1. Exlovers - exlovers ( Young And Lost Club ) Exlovers had my favorite single of 2011 and now my favorite record of 2012. Their debut album is a dreampop masterpiece that was a long time coming from this London band. [...]

We—who are we? I was born in 1914 to a large fortune; my wife could not have said the same—we were down in Mexico as a result of an untimely conviction in the state of Louisiana. My wife began drinking quite heavily. She had found herself without her beloved Benzedrine inhalers, endowed with excellent parts, [...]

People's Temple return, 60s swagger fully intact. This go-around, and here's hoping the band catches the big-stage attention they so clearly deserve, the band dips the pinky toe in to the bluesier side of 60s, upping the rough-and-tumble quotient with gritty back-barroom riffs and a snappy backbeat. It's tight and nasty and a clear deviation [...]

The People's Temple have a knack for mining 60's tropes and exploding them on the screen with a reverence and execution that makes them feel like the Nuggets box come to life. The band returns with new album indebted to the rumble and throb of '67 but with an eye towards the more adventurous years that would follow. Admittedly aiming for more ambitious waters, the band tap Arthur Lee's Love and mix it with a dirty blues swagger that would make more than one heart swoon. The last album received some critical praise but ran shy of the kind of [...]

( previously on CWR) The Michigan psychedelic outfit People's Temple introduced their classic blend of psychedelic rock to us through their debut LP release, Sons of Stone , via HoZac Records in 2011 ( buy ), which quickly became one of my favorites of the year . I consider it a fortunate thing that we're blessed with a follow-up LP, More For The Masses in 2012. Sons of Stone embedded People's Temple into the psychedelic, garage genre upon its release, [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. By this point, everyone knows about local musician Sam Brown sitting behind the kit in the indie-rock supergroup Divine Fits, who will return to town Wednesday at the Newport Music Hall . Less known, perhaps, is the Columbus connection of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, which was recently added to the Newport bill (moved from the Basement). In the early '90s, sometime around the dissolution of Spencer's previous band Pussy Galore, he and wife Cristina Martinez joined an incarnation of the off-kilter country/blues/rock [...]

It's been almost an entire year since I've heard anything from the Michigan crew, The People's Temple . These cats play straight-up rock n' roll, with a bit of swagger and a whole lot of history. Their album Sons of Stone almost wore itself out on my record player, so I'm pleased to share with you this new tune off the group's Looter's Game 73 . For me, the tambourine is the standout in this song, wiggling it's way around in the background, providing [...]
