This week, Brooklyn songstress Pepi Gingberg released a video for the song "Tornado." The single comes from her latest effort, the Yes City EP from earlier this year, out now on Doubling Cube. Directed by Alec Sutherland and beautifully shot by Todd Dos Santos, the clip gives us an intimate look into the lives of a group of small town Louisiana teens. With lyrics portending an impending storm, the video captures the calm just before.

Bill Baird treats his fans well. He maintains a dedicated following that, if his new album Loveshines But The Moon Is Shining Too is any indication, should increase exponentially shortly. Baird appears quite kind to fans as well, as his tireless work ethic and dedication caught my attention in 2008, when he released two full-lengths [...]
Deer Tick is meant to be a traveling band and country is just traveling music. Let's cross out the labels they've been stamped with—freak-folk, alt-country, indie rock, and the like. Let the music (and John McCauley) do the talking. This interview by Ilyse Kaplan.
Enjoy today's magnificent performance of 'Shake This' in the feature below. MP3: Pepi Ginsberg - Shake This

Filed under: Video , Exclusive Though the song's production may be somewhat sparse, the video for Pepi Ginsberg 's 'Lost River' explodes with a collage of colorful images. The Brooklyn-based poet-turned-singer-songwriter belts her upbeat tune euphorically amidst quick-cutting stock footage of jazz bands, nature films and other random visual stimuli. A kaleidoscopic coloring effect and some superimposed foliage add to the video's pyschedelic, free-spirited vibe. Director Albert Birney tells Spinner that the clip was "filmed one hot summer day at a secret waterfall in North Carolina, with masks [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours An eclectic palate of influences shapes singer-songwriter Pepi Ginsberg's music. With her fourth record, 'East by East,' released earlier this year and a full complement of tour dates, she's one busy woman. Spinner recently caught up Ginsberg to discuss her impending stop at SXSW and her guilty pleasures. Describe your sound. If you take somebody who really likes writing songs and has a lot of story ideas, but also really likes rock [...]

Happy Lundi Gras/Presidents Day! Hopefully you have the day off, unlike me who is working the Westminster Dog show. Here is the very first interview of the new season which will premiere this Thursday on cox 4 at 7pm. This is our extended version of the interview we will have with Park the Van recording artist Pepi Ginsberg . We interviewed her a year ago now, right as she was finishing up her new record, East is East.
Vocal acrobat Pepi Ginsberg explored a fuller band sound on her second release East is East . Our own Henry Rollins is a fan of her distinctive voice and you can hear it for yourself on Today's Top Tune " Shake This ."

[mp3] Pepi Ginsberg: "Coca Cola" [mp3] Love: "Love Jumped Through My Window" Here are two records that we think are not getting nearly enough love by the populace at large. Isn't that why we're doing this blog thing anyway? We love redundancy around here. The first album, East is East, is the newest offering from Pepi Ginsberg which drops 2/2 on Park the Van, the beloved former home of Dr. Dog before their graduation to Anti. Much has been [...]
While driving one day, Pepi Ginsberg began to wonder what it would sound like if Bob Dylan—circa Blood On The Tracks—had a love child with Deerhoof. She was able to answer her question in the form of upcoming LP, East Is East (Park The Van), in which she evokes the spirits of those artists while [...]

Quail Lungs, aka Portland Oregonian Travis Bonilla, howls into his 4-track in a way that reminds me of a 20-something Daniel Higgs raised on a later (and more British) generation of punk, but the same deep countrified Americana. He has a two-song 7" coming out via Dean Spunt's PPM label. Spunt and Bonilla grew up together -- elementary and high school, etc. -- and played together in punk rock bands together when they were 14, 15, 16. Even if you didn't know that, it's clear he's discovered his home-recorded Americana via DIY culture, etc. Or, in the press release, [...]

Only two weeks left in the year now, and I can't remember where the year's gone. No, it's not due to overindulgance at the pub- well, maybe a little. But the year seems to have vanished. I'm not sure if I'll be doing any "best of" mixes this year or not, so I may fill those next two mixtapes with favorites- or maybe a bonus mixtape? Anyway, I've got a busy weekend, with tons to do, so I'll just leave these out for you... Tracklisting: [...]

"Coca Cola"'s the lead track from Brooklyn songwriter Pepi Ginsberg's forthcoming East Is East , the ten-song followup to 2008's Red . (You might recall, " The Waterline ," " Son .") She's said the new collection was inspired by wanting to discover "what the love child of Bob Dylan and Deerhoof would sound like." Last time she passed through, we referenced Edie Brickell, Jolie Holland, and, yes, Dylan while locating "a general Beatnik feel [in] the old-NY lyricism." She still has that voice and a certain delivery. "Coca Cola" indeed feels less vintage, but in that way [...]

The night before Pepi Ginsberg swung by to share some of her new psychedelic wares, she made pizza with some friends. One of those pies, a blue cheese and anchovy affair she brought with her, was as delicious as it was bizarre. Lucky for us, there may be no better way to describe the way her songs come together and burst. Check "Lost River," "Shake This" and "Navy and Sand" on the floor of one of our many living rooms after the jump. "Lost River" "Shake This" [...]
