Human Switchboard's Who's Landing in My Hangar? is one of the few tenuously Cleveland connected punk/new wave classics to lack a proper reissues. Bar/None Records thankfully rescues this great album from a future of shitty YouTube vinyl rips. The reissue includes close to everything the band released. A droning John Cale type synth drones over
All the Wrong People Are Dying is not actually an album, but a collection of the earlier Styrenes album A Monster and a Devil alongside several 12"s and a compilation track. Somehow, despite the cobbled-together nature of its assembly, the CD flows more cohesively than most properly assembled albums do. Go figure. The Styrenes, initially

Now that I have a great turntable and pre-amp, I've been visiting the archives to see which albums and singles deserve to be re-recorded and re-posted. Obviously, the soundtrack to Urgh! A Music War was one of the first on the list. These new recordings sound light-years better than my last attempt, and I highly recommended you download them even if you have an older copy I posted. I've talked about Urgh! several times over, so I'll keep the intro brief. It's an amazing document of a time period in music, when the punk [...]
Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Q + A Kathy Ward Thompson Nearly 40 years ago, the world blinked and missed Rocket From the Tombs . The band formed in Cleveland in the summer of 1974, and less than a year later -- having released no music and played only a handful of shows -- the quintet splintered, forming two new bands: Punk pioneers the Dead Boys and the [...]

MP3: Rocket from the Tombs - "I Sell Soul" Seminal Cleveland protopunk band Rocket from the Tombs will release their first studio album, Barfly , on October 11. In it's original inception, the band lasted less than a year - forming in 1974 and breaking up in 1975 with members going on to form bands like Pere Ubu and The Dead Boys . Along the way there have been reunion shows/tours and albums comprised of live shows and rehearsal tapes but Barfly [...]

As long as the phrase "sound art" doesn't send you scurrying for the refuge of your nearest unreconstructed vinyl-only Billy Childish LP, you'll probably be interested in the Soundwaves Festival , set to take place at various Brighton venues from Thu 14 to Sun 17 July. Described somewhat improbably as "a world which is created when artists begin to work without constraints when experimentation becomes the norm for both audience and artist alike", Soundwaves brings together leftfield electronic musicians, choreographers, film-makers and other creative types to sally forth into uncharted artistic pastures. [...]
Mancunian "mystery band" WU LYF releases its first album, Go Tell Fire To The Mountain.

Barcelona - After an extremely late first night at Primavera Sound, Tennis ' bright, sunny pop on a bright, sunny evening was the perfect way to start off the second day of music. The husband and wife duo and their drummer played an enjoyable set which included a couple of new songs along with the songs off their debut, Cape Dory . Presumably, these new songs will not be about sailing. Speaking of sailing, if you'll pardon the bad pun, Alaina Moore's strong, clear voice sailed out over the crowd. I also realized after watching them how incredibly thin [...]

We are psyched to have a couple tracks from the new Shark? LP, True Waste . The digital album is set to be released on May 24 via the Oops Baby Record Label . The band worked with former Pere Ubu bassist Tony Maimone to craft their sound while recording the album. Listen. Downloadables: Down Low (mp3) Shark?
Indie singer songwriter Mark Lesseraux demands that you dance to his new concept cover album 'Get Your Back Up Off The Wall!' Okay, so he's not demanding, but rather suggesting that you think about dancing. While you think about it, you just might find yourself cutting a rug.
The Pogues on record are never short of inspirational, and in person, they might be a life-changing experience. This hackle-raising blend of traditional Irish folk music, politically charged broadsides and electric rock 'n' roll, delivered by charismatic frontman Shane MacGowan flanked by a grizzled band of veterans that includes penny-whistle virtuoso/alternate vocalist Spider Stacy, was [...]

Business as usual here after a sunny Queensday, so get ready for the 58th edition of Wild Weekend . What's in store this time around you ask? Well, there's Bonnie Prince Billy's brother in the new folk department, some Culture for all you roots lovers out deh , while Mickey Newbury takes care of the country side of things. Enjoy and please do have a wild one. But first we'll witness some trademark weirdness by David Thomas and his merry Cleveland gang, from their so-called 'difficult' third album. In my [...]
Here's some great sound: Blow Daddy-O comes from Pere Ubu's second album, the unmissable Dub Housing . It's disorienting stuff, with throbbing waves of noise that shift the beat all over the place, methane bubbles of bass occasionally rising to the surface, and off-kilter, sporadic drumming. It's their "difficult" tracks that the Pere Ubu reputation was built upon, and this is one of their finest. Very little for David Thomas to do on this one. Lots of people seem to hate it, but you know better. Pere [...]

Kokoonpanon Suomen ensiesiintyminen nähdään sunnuntaina 22. toukokuuta Tavastialla, jossa se esittää vuoden 1978 The Modern Dance -klassikkodebyyttialbuminsa alusta loppuun neljän ensimmäisen singlensä ryydittämänä. Punk/new wave/avantrock -yhtye Pere Ubu perustettiin Clevelandissa vuonna 1975, kun vokalisti David "Crocus Behemoth" Thomas ja kitaristi Peter Laughner kasasivat edellisen yhtyeensä Rocket From The Tombsin raunioille uuden kokoonpanon. Yhtye sai nimensä ranskalaisen surrealistin Alfred Jarryn vuonna 1896 kirjoittaman näytelmän "Ubu Roin" päähenkilön mukaan. Pere Ubun tuotoksissa yhdistyvät Captain Beefheartin mutanttiblues ja -jazz, Velvet Undergroundin, MC5:n ja Stoogesin varhainen [...]

Classic Pere Ubu here. Shuffling guitars, howling vocals, staccato rhythm and a completely abstract middle section make this the most genuinely odd dancefloor smash you can imagine. Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance

for some reason i found myself listening to this today. this being 802s for this comp known as c81. the rest of this post is exactly what i wrote when i posted this back in 08. c81 was compiled by nme journalist roy carr and rough trade pr dude christopher rose for the 5th anniversary of independent label movement in the uk and of course to show off rough trades wares. more info can be found here , via wikipedia. there's some real awesome stuff here, there are a few turds too. but of course what might be pure [...]
