Now that the Honorable Mentions are out of the way, here's the official Bears and Bullets Top Albums of 2012 list (part one): #25: Chromatics - Kill For Love Had this record come a year earlier, maybe the lust for Kill For Love wouldn't [...]

(photo by cubagallery ) These are 50 tracks that delighted, inspired and fascinated us in 2012 and that we think are worthy of remembering long after the year is over. We present them here in highly unscientific ordered list form, with Matt's songs marked with a "-MG" and my choices with a "-TJ" next to them. To better spread the love, we've stuck with the one song per artist rule. Click here to download all the tracks in a zip and subscribe to our Spotify Playlist to stream them all. Enjoy y'all! [...]

10. GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR Allelujah!Don’t Bend! Ascend! [Constellation] Il miglior rifugio quando tutte quello che non vuoi sentire sono le solite note messe bene in fila. Post rock e sperimentazioni bollenti come lava. I Goodspeed You!

We'll be back in the morning with the top 30. 40. Mystery Jets - Radlands Esoteric Londoners head west. 39. Lianne La Havas - Is Your Love Big Enough UK soul takes another leap. 38. ... 12. The Tallest Man On Earth // There's No Leaving Now [ Dead Oceans ] The Tallest Man On Earth is basically my comfort music. I've played each of his albums so many times that I cannot imagine my life without them at this point. My family members might feel differently about it because I play them so often, but oh well. On There's No Leaving Now , he's incorporated a wider array of instrumentation where before it was mostly just [...]
Here is a YouTube playlist of all the songs that made this list.
Despite shifting in shape, size and number, Her Name is Calla have resolutely maintained an unequivocal melodrama in their everything they've ever done. One senses its prime constituents, Tom Morris and Sophie Green, would rather cease to exist than compromise on this in any respect, and indeed it therefore feels fairly apt that their latest recording, Ragman Roll, sounds like the gradual though in no way undignified sinking of a once prestigious vessel. Tumbling keys recall both Michael Hadreas and Ludovico Einaudi all at once, whilst Morris' affected, breathy vocal will surely resuscitate the Thom Yorke [...]

Falling in love with new music is one life's simple pleasures and 2012 was a fantastic year of discovery for me. I've already featured a few of my new favorites this year, including Bright Moments, HAERTS, Porcelain Raft, and Vacationer (just to name a few), and today i'd like to highlight a few more. But first I need to give credit where credit is due. If it weren't for the following music outlets, my music repertoire would be far less exciting. Big thanks to All Songs Considered , Big Hassle , EARMILK , Girlie Action , Head [...]

I've always said when compiling my year-end list that I don't choose my favourite albums of the year so much as they declare themselves to me. If it requires too much thought, it's probably more a case of trying to justify adding something that I know probably doesn't belong. But those albums that do pass muster are not, as you might think, necessarily the albums that I can't stop listening to. Rather, they're often the ones that I try to listen to the least, or at least sparingly, lest that intangible magic that I feel within its notes [...]

Pavla Kopecna In mentioning yesterday that winning the Mercury Prize allowed Alt-J to graduate from playing Wrongbar in September to playing The Phoenix in March, we can also scientifically see what only getting nominated to the shortlist gets you. Django Django , who were shortlisted on the strength of their self-titled debut , also played Wrongbar in late September and have also just scheduled a Spring tour that brings them back to town in March - March 12, specifically, and at The Opera House. So based on the capacities of [...]

If you're reading this right now then the tragic likelihood is that you're not currently over in Utrecht, NL revelling in the irrefutable brilliance of Le Guess Who? Allow an already immoderately ashamed we to souse you in some of that shame: shame on you . For few, to no metropolitan festival experiences beat it and over the Saturday afternoon, to stave off the impatience, its organisers scatter Le Mini Who? throughout this almost unfeasibly sightly city. It was upon an elegiac once-over of the timetable to this downscale offshoot that I happened to stumble [...]
