We’ll be the first to admit this list is arriving, oh, at least a month late. On the other hand, 2010 was an expansive year for Northwest music in many regards and worthy of chronicling one last time with thoughtful and focused intention. So we hope you will see that the extra time we've given [...]

Here at MOKB, we are, at the core, rabid music fans. So, one of the coolest things about this gig is the occasional opportunity to speak with an artist whose music you hold in particularly high esteem. For me, few active artists have a body of work that can hold a candle to that of Greg Dulli , whether it be solo, or in guise as an Afghan Whig, Twilight Singer or Gutter Twin. On February 15th, The Twilight Singers and Sub Pop will release Dynamite Steps , [...]

Perfume Genius Getting ready for its sixth year, End of The Road Festival has announced another string of acts set to perform in the beautiful grounds of Larmer Tree Gardens in Dorset from September 2 to 4. 2010 was quite a year. It saw graduations, festivals, a move from Athens to Barcelona, the discovery of a new city, a slight, um, slowing down of our blog activity, a World Cup, many flights (17 for me), and a lot of great music. So, without further ado, we present to you: So, how did we compile this rather fantastic list, you ask? Easy, we consulted our trusty last.fm profiles (see the bottom of this page for our individual profiles). We then each chose our top 25 and [...]
Yourstru.ly Presents: Perfume Genius "Dreeem" from Yours Truly on Vimeo . [mp3] Perfume Genius: "Learning" There's no arguing that Perfume Genius is one of the shining new songwriting talents making music today. “Dreem” is a bonus track from the recently-released special edition of 2010's excellent Learning brought to us by the great folks at Yours Truly .

End of year lists are always a bitch to write, there's no two ways about it; you always end up mulling over numerous methods of presenting, as well as the inevitable mistaken omission of items. With the accessibility and dispensability of music nowadays, it becomes ever so easy to temporarily forget tracks or even complete albums. So instead of droning on about obscure albums that have floated between my ears, here is a concise guide to my personal highlights of the year. Foals - Spanish Sahara As well as claiming the track of the year title from [...]

The fine crew at Yours Truly have commissioned many excellent performances, most recently Twin Shadow and Perfume Genius . Destroyer 's latest smooth-jazz offering comes with a nerd/siren comedy video, there's buzzcut guitars from The Joy Formidable , some lo-fi-ness (?) from Sea Pinks , Local Natives perform live on Fallon and Mount Kimbie deliver a choppy collage. Twin Shadow - 'Shooting Holes' Perfume Genius - 'Dreeem' Destroyer [...]

Perfume Genius - “Dreem” I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: when gems like this don’t even make the album , you can place a safe bet the artist is someone special. Though Mike Hadreas left “Dreem” off his debut, Learning , here is its timeless melody adorned by his unforgettably gorgeous vocals and subtle piano performed live via Yours Truly . Don’t like to throw the name Neil Young around lightly, but… oh, wait .
Perfume Genius recorded the track 'Dreeem' from the recently released expanded edition of his debut album "Learning" for Yours Truly. Like Twin Shadow's performance the other day, his performance is from September. You can watch the performance below. Perfume Geniu......

When your album ends up on LBYB's top 31 albums of the year list, it changes a person. Perfume Genius ' album dropped in at number 11 and I just hope that he's doing alright with the new-found fame and attention that kind of acclaim brings to an artist. His debut album is immense and earth-shattering, in the same way that Sleigh Bells ' album is, but both at completely opposite sides of the musical rainbow (I like Rainbows.....does the word Rainbow get capitalised?). For Yours Truly a couple of months back (but only [...]

For six years now the superbly intelligent and literate Sweeping The Nation blog has been running the UK Bloggers Album of the Year poll, with each blog submitting (or in some cases Sweeping The Nation filching) their top ten LP’s of the year for some sort of points scoring contest that smooths out any idiosyncrasies of potential and arguable ‘poor taste.' For example the Breaking More Waves choice of Ellie Goulding in the top 10 was hardly likely to be replicated by the rest of the blogosphere – mainstream commercial female fronted pop music albums [...]

In the truest spirit of democracy and parity, I believe that a best songs list should look very different from a best albums list. As a teenager, I always loved Charles Aaron's year-end songs list in Spin because they were so thrillingly eclectic. Aaron's lists democratized taste for me: they gave me permission to love both The Fugees as much as I loved PJ Harvey. Since then, I've believed that a best songs list should be for the one-offs, the flukes, the lucky ones, the temporary geniuses, the chart-toppers, the forgotten underdogs. There's no sense in telling you that [...]
