HT faves Perpetual Groove celebrated the start of the New Year by working a cover of Wake Up by Arcade Fire into Auld Lang Syne with the help of Under The Porch and "The Ladies of Perpetual Groove." Video of this sequence, which took place at Center Stage in Atlanta, has just surfaced... Perpetual Groove - Wake Up > Auld Lang Syne In other PGroove news, the band has officially announced Amberland 2012 .
Halloween and New Year's Eve are traditionally the two biggest nights of the year in the jam world as each band within the scene gathers their devoted fans from across the country for a musical celebration. We've rounded up setlists from around the country in one handy post. Widespread Panic Set 1: Chilly Water > JAM > Imitation Leather Shoes > Mr Soul, Cotton Was King, Shut Up and Drive, Walkin' (For Your Love), Saint Ex > Slippin' Into Darkness*^> Bust It Big* > Chest Fever*# [...]

Two years after a fire tore through Athens' Georgia Theatre on the day Perpetual Groove was set to perform at the famed venue, the HT faves threw down two sets on Friday night that very well may have been worth the wait. As expected, past and future PGroove keyboardist Matt McDonald was on hand and joined the band for fan-favorite Bobblehead Funk at the end of set one and a Speed Queen sandwich in set two that contained a debut cover of Consolers of the Lonely by The Raconteurs and a brief run through Faith No More's Epic. [...]

The guys in Perpetual Groove have been coming up with interesting Halloween themes for years. Whether it was a John Hughes-themed celebration in 2009, the Karate Kid set in 2008 or last year's Diamonds Are Forever theme, the Athens-based band continues to come up with good ideas and executes them well. For this year's Halloween show at Birmingham's WorkPlay Theatre, PGroove mixed four Prince covers in with several jammed out originals for a performance billed as PERPle Rain. I'd party to this playlist. And it'd be the hippest party around. Part 1 below, parts 2-4 to follow sometime, maybe today. Or tomorrow maybe. Probably. Definitely by Sunday... evening. Marvin Gaye: Medley (You/Grapevine/Your Precious Love) (5/11/1972 Live In Washington D.C.) Phish: Tube (1997/10/29 Live At Madison Square Garden) Celtic C ross: Hicksville ( Hicksville ) [...]
Less than 3 weeks until Blackwater is back @ the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park with a Lineup that's better than ever! The PB&J™ team will be in attendance this year and we hope we can influence as many of our awesome fans as possible to come out and buy tickets for what's sure [...]
One of the music festivals that can often get overlooked amidst a sea of the bigger OSL's and ACL's of the world is the upstate New York gem known as Catskill Chill Music Festival . We've written about the festival in the past and would be remiss to not mention this mini-festival again in 2011. This year's lineup is stacked with some jamband middleweights like Umphrey's McGee, but following right behind are the untz-Bisco stylings of Conspirator and the Dead-based nostalgia funk thing called 7 Walkers (with the Grateful Dead's Bill Kreutzmann at [...]

After a few turbulent years, Perpetual Groove has been hitting their stride in 2011. Brock Butler has been singing with passion and emotion in his voice that went missing for a while and the band has debuted a number of fantastic new songs at Amberland which are keeping setlists fresh. PGroove fans are hoping this hot streak continues into '12 and can celebrate the start of the new year with the quartet at Atlanta's Center Stage. The Athens-based band will play the 1,050-capacity Center Stage Theater [...]

This week's NYC Concert Calendar seems a tad quieter than last week's....which makes it seemingly a perfect week to highlight a bunch of smaller, intimate shows that are going on in town. In last week's post I already flagged Music for Money , specifically for fans of Battles and Tortoise. Those guys continue their run of NYC shows this week. But if you're looking for another interesting instrumental band, I'd also hit Delicate Steve et al at the Morgan....those dudes are all over the map sonically, but a lot [...]

In today's day and age, it's virtually impossible to keep a secret. With social media chirping and tweeting away with constant alerts, and Facebook and the like wasting away our free time and clogging our inboxes, it's amazing that Perpetual Groove is about to host their tenth annual Amberland festival this upcoming Memorial Day weekend - with most of you being none the wiser. As the saying goes, Amberland is not a place, but a state of mind. Please allow me to explain why. [...]

Jam Cruise 10 sets sail from Ft. Lauderdale, FL on January 9 aboard the MSC Poesia and will visit Labadee, Haiti and Falmouth, Jamaica before returning to Ft. Lauderdale on January 14. Over the first nine Jam Cruises a number of artists have proven themselves to be ideal performers for the community-oriented vibe of the trip. Jam Cruise 102s lineup brings nearly all of those acts back to the open seas including HT faves Umphrey's McGee, Galactic, Soulive, Perpetual Groove, The New Mastersounds, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and Railroad Earth. We'd like to congratulate Perpetual Groove for winning our Cover Wars March Madness tournament for the second year in a row. The group's cover of Macca's Live and Let Die had a tough road to the title this year as it was selected as a "play-in" contender putting it at the bottom of the bracket, but they came out on top no matter which HT fave they went up against. PGroove's Live and Let Die beat classics such as Hey Jude by Wilson Pickett, The Band's Baby Don't [...]

It seems like only yesterday that we started with the play-in game and had our 32 covers set up to compete. Today we're down to our final showdown featuring Perpetual Groove's cover of Live and Let Die squaring off against My Morning Jacket's performance of It Makes No Difference. The Final Matchup Perpetual Groove - Live and Let Die (Paul McCartney) - A Play-In Selection Perpetual Groove performing Live and Let Die [...]

Cover Wars March Madness rolls on. We've had our play-in round and our first full round of 32 covers and we're left with our Sweet 16. We are in our third year of this tournament and we have just now done the obvious, we have generated an actual bracket so you can visualize how this is all going to go down. Have a look and be sure to vote in all eight matchups. Matchup #1 Ramble On (Led Zeppelin) [...]

With the announcement coming this past weekend that LCD Soundsystem would be playing their final show on April 2nd at Madison Square Garden, it seemed appropriate that we select one of their tunes for Cover Wars. All My Friends was released as a single for LCD's 2007 album Sound of Silver. As you'll see below, that single included two covers of All My Friends. The Contestants: Franz Ferdinand is the first of two artists this week who recorded a cover of [...]

December 31st is the biggest night for live music of the year. An argument might be made for Halloween, but I'm not buying it. Your non-live-music-loving-friends don't say things like, "Halloween is the most anti-climactic day of the year" while you sit there and just snicker. We've been a little Phish heavy this week so let's take a look at how 24 other bands rang in 2011. Side Note: This was my first time using embedded images from setlist.fm and I must say it looks super slick. That site has really got it going on, [...]
