Nearly three months after Perpetual Groove announced they would be parting ways for a dreaded "indefinitehiatus," we've made it to the day of the "final show." Back in 2010 Perpetual Groove crushed the competition on their way towards winning our Cover Wars March Madness tournament with their sublime version of This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody). The Talking Heads cover has been a staple of PGroove's live sets for over a decade, so it's no surprise they performed Naive Melody at what could very well be the band's last festival set. HT faves Perpetual Groove's farewell tour visited George's Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday night. DGold was on hand to film the entire show and has uploaded his footage to YouTube . Memorial Day Weekend boasts many traditions to mark the unofficial start of summer. In the world of HT faves Perpetual Groove , the holiday weekend saw the 13th installment of Amberland, the group's annual festival. Holding court at Cherokee Farms in Lafayette, Georgia, not too far from the band's home base of Athens, PGroove drew and expanded on one of my favorite festivals. This past Saturday night marked the return to New York of longtime Perpetual Groove keyboardist Matt McDonald for the first time since 2008, when he departed the band, until coming back into the fold during the band's New Year's run. The quartet did not disappoint. McDonald and his band mates played a two set affair with song selections culled from the band's oldest and newest compositions, and featured the most poignant of encores. End of Friday came, and I was off to Boston for the evening with my girl for a little R&R and some live music! Not only was it about to be my first Perpetual Groove experience, but it will be my first time at The Middle East . In 2006, a handful of UK artists launched a monthly night of music at Notting Hill Arts Club in West London that they dubbed Communion , to help promote and cultivate a scene for up and coming independent artists. Two years after a fire tore through Athens' Georgia Theatre on the day Perpetual Groove was set to perform at the famed venue, the HT faves threw down two sets on Friday night that very well may have been worth the wait. The guys in Perpetual Groove have been coming up with interesting Halloween themes for years. Whether it was a John Hughes-themed celebration in 2009, the Karate Kid set in 2008 or last year's Diamonds Are Forever theme, the Athens-based band continues to come up with good ideas and executes them well. For this year's Halloween show at Birmingham's WorkPlay Theatre, PGroove mixed four Prince covers in with several jammed out originals for a performance billed as PERPle Rain.
