hello. I am alive and well in South America. more to come. thanks tpg

I first caught wind of Francois Peglau over on We Listen For You when they posted about the track "Who Wants To Go?" last month. The man himself hails from Peru, but he has been living in London for some time now, where he has been working on his debut solo LP The Imminent Failure of Francois Peglau . There's a definite lo-fi aesthetic that ties Francois' sound together. He make use of a variety of instruments, but the songwriting is straight to the point. "We Know We Won't Make It" [...]

In the last year, Peruvian singer-songwriter Francois Peglau has acquired a great amount of international attention, enough to signal him as Peru's most lauded export. Almost every publication out there claims he makes lo-fi indie music, but actually, all of his songs are like quirky slim boleros (at least like those documented on 80's Television). Peglau's methods of composition might not be the most intricate, but they're sharp enough to tell a story. As seen on his new clip "We Know We Won't Make It" (from his album The Imminent Failure of Francois Peglau ), Francois has the [...]

Label: Unsigned (distributed by Thee Sheffield Phonographic Corporation) Release date: 28/03/11 Link: Myspace Don't fix something if it isn't broken. But if you can make it even better, why not fiddle with it? This daft change on that old homespun knowledge is how I could sum up Cats:for:Peru's latest EP, We Had This Problem Last Winter . An evolution/continuation from their previous album, Attack of the Pitching Machine , this new EP lowers the guitar contribution (but [...]

Think about the first time you heard Spoon 's "Kill "he Moonlight". Any Spoon record hits what I'm going for, but "Kill The Moonlight" does it best; every note has a purpose, not a single superfluous element. In the 002s, a decade of The Go! Team and noise rock fads, Spoon had a great niche as that band that got the job done with hawk-eyed precision, no excessive sonic layering in sight. Francois Peglau has that same tight craftsmanship in his first LP "The Imminent Failure Of..." that just oozes quality, like a mashup of The [...]
After almost 2 years since her last concert tour, Miley Cyrus is planning to go overseas to perform for her international fans. The tour kicks off in Quito, Ecuador on April 29. She’ll then hit Lima, Peru on May 1. A full list of dates and locations has yet to be announced though. A source said “Miley has a huge fan base worldwide. She's pumped that her scheduled has opened up and allowed her to perform for fans abroad.” It looks like she’s not touring the US though, which is probably a good idea. The singer/actress’ last album didn’t do [...]
Oh, you haven't heard of Lunch In Peru, well you need to find out. Watch and learn. Enjoy! Lunch in Peru - Kenji Summers from The Terrill on Vimeo .
Peruvian newcomers Kanaku & El Tigre seem to be on their way to become one of this year’s indie-folk standouts. They might just have the right amount of tools, skill, and passion to internationalize their music as some of their fellow compatriots have (Francois Peglau, Resplandor, Turbopotamos). Officially a duo comprised by Bruno Bellatin & Nico Saba, the band makes full-panorama songs with a wide range of instrumental assembly. “Caracoles” is the band’s new great video, and the leading track off their self-titled debut. The clip directed by Mike Stornfelt features a splendid art direction as a group of friends [...]

Daria is a special person in many ways. Her illustrational work is beatifully intricate and detailed and done entirely by hand - which shows. There's a real craftmanship to be found throughout her pencil coloured drawings and I especially love how colourful they are. Not just that, Daria's work really seems to tell a story. I guess you should just get yourself over to her blog and have a look. I asked her a couple of questions, she picked 3 and made drawings to go with them. Yep, that's [...]

By Sweet Sound of Sunrise This week's WMW post comes to me thanks to my friend Sonya, who introduced me to this band. It piqued my interest, because when I think of metal, I think of Iron Maiden, Scandinavia and the eastern half of the United States. Even the niche of folk metal is firmly planted in northern Europe in my mind. Nevertheless, Peruvian folk metal does exist, and - for all you metal fans - it's good. Chaska [...]
My buddy Zack shot this video of a dancing guerrilla in Cuzco, Peru. And by guerrilla, I mean, person in a costume. Still, it's pretty great. And what really makes the video is his infectious laugh, which provides the soundtrack.
Lali Cienfuegos lives and works in South America, he comes across some cool things. Recently he's been hanging out in the jungles of Peru with some Jesus freaks who play synths. Check it out!

Secret Stash Records diggers Cory Wong and Eric Foss' new Afro-Peruvian supergroup Peña releases their self titled album : In April of 2010, Cory Wong and Eric Foss of Secret Stash Records traveled to Lima, Peru with a translator and assembled Peña, an Afro-Peruvian ensemble featuring a handful of the best musicians within the genre. The group was a revolving door of sorts that included over a dozen players ranging in age from 24 to 65. In seven days they recorded over 50 tracks. With no access to a conventional recording [...]

Francois Peglau - "One minute to midnight dream (So sad)" One minute to midnight dream [So sad] by Francois Peglau Time disappears with a quick snap of the fingers -- just like a magic trick. With your head in the clouds, you tend to miss a lot of what happens down in reality. You can't let yourself get carried away by what you think, neglecting that which you already know. The trouble often lies in looking for something rather than at something, failing to [...]

Francois Peglau is a Peruvian/Argentinean French musician that left Peru (and his indie band Los Fuckin Sombreros there for better horizons) and now lives in London. Once there, he started recording songs in his home studio along with the help of some musicians. His music is lo-fi pop, which he likes to call Socio-Peruvian lo fi pop (and since we don't really know any other pop/indie artist from Peru we'll give him that). All his music is available for free from his BandCamp page (so feel free to check/download it from the link below) as it's really worth the try. [...]
