This is part 1 of my rundown of the Best 50 Irish Acts out there at this moment in time. 50. Clockwork Noise Clockwork Noise have been quiet of late but the EP they released last year called 'Yes and No and Everything in Between' contains five superb indie tracks. The singer reminds me of Conor Oberst but the violin and musicianship on the EP means this is no Bright Eyes rip-off. [...]

Pete Courtney is playing a "one of these kids thanksgiving" show on the 10th anniversary of the album's release on Monday April 25th. Ten years ago when Pete was gigging and flogging his debut many people thought it would be Pete and not Damien/Mundy/Damo D to become a household name. It is Pete's first headline gig in Whelan's since 2004. 'One of These Kids' is one of my favourite ever Irish albums. I'll be in Whelans for sure. Get [...]

This is the new Wednesday feature where I'll be putting the spotlight on some Irish artists who I've either neglected to mention on the blog or have been away from the music business in some time. Pete Courtney is about to release his second album a full nine years after his debut. In 2001 Pete Courtney released 'One of These Kids' to critical acclaim. The journey to the debut included a stint in New York where he shared a stage with non [...]
Pete Courtney has recently put his second album up on bandcamp for your listening and downloading pleasure and here it is ...... Instinct by pete courtney Check out his fine website too .... http://www.petecourtney.com/
Mullingar - Ireland's Bellybutton AKA Ireland's Seattle by Shayne Byrne (Arrow in the Sky) For a long time now Mullingar has been a hub for the musical soul, once a stop on tours for "Thin Lizzy" & "Horslips" and the home of the King of Showbands "Joe Dolan" and continuing the lineiage right up to the uncrowned kings of Pop-Rock "The Blizzards" It has long since been a home to non-Mullingar musicians amongst which I am one. Being here 8 years I've got to know such fellow blow-ins as Pete Courtney. Shane [...]
This week [Monday - Friday] I'm counting down my Top 50 artists in my humble opinion at this moment in time. The artists are to have released an album/ep or played a gig since Jan 2009 in order to qualify for the list. 41. A Plastic Rose The band from equal parts Sligo and Belfast have been featured many times already this year on the blog. Their alternative rock sound coupled with the vocal harmonies of the two singers mean A Plastic Rose is essential listening. [...]

The best thing about organising your own sessions night in a venue is the great sense of pride you get when everything about the night works. The major success story was the acoustic rock from The Whiskey Limbs. It was energetic and full of emotion and humour from a band with the right attitude. Their three part harmonies and country lyrics were just wonderful. The whole night helped to life my spirits to face the difficult year ahead. [...]

I can honestly say that the Sessions nights in Slane have been going very well. I know I am biased but there's something magical about these nights. I am hoping that Thursday's night will continue the magic. I know people must have one eye on Christmas but I do hope we get a decent crowd this week. Here are some sample mp3s to encourage you to make the journey! Elder Roche - Shine Brian Canavan - Come and Get Me [...]
![Elder Roche - Nobody Knows [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2041151_lg.jpg)
Elder's debut album which was officially released a few weeks back in The Button Factory was in fact recorded in 2007 and shows massive promise and potential which Elder has lived up to since the recording of the debut. The most significant aspect of 'Nobody Knows' is the quality of Elder's specific style of folk rock. This along with Elder's quality voice and his songwriting makes for a really good debut album which gets better after every listen! The best songs on the album are Heart to Strum, Diamonds and Nobody Knows. I also [...]

Pete Courtney is an amazing artist from Monaghan who has album number two ready to be released. Back in the days of 2001-2003 when I was in the UK there was a decent buzz about Pete's music and in particular his live shows! I can't wait to hear his new tunes and see the man gigging live again. Kissing Stars http://www.myspace.com/petecou rtney In fact if you go here you can download his debut album for free!

In 2001 while Damien Rice, Bell X1 and The Frames were winning Irish Hearts, Pete Courtney from Co. Monaghan released a brilliant debut which should have brought success. He has a gentle singing voice similar in tone to David Gray along with Dylanesque melodies. The debut One Of These Kids can be found below. Pete Courtney - One Of These Kids 1. Please Somebody 2. Sensible Shoes 3. Fingers and Face 4. Vociferous Consciousness Impulse 5. Fairy Dance 6. Chosen [...]
