Just when we taught things had calmed down Lupe has reignited the flames of controversy by firing back at Pete Rock. The audio is self explanatory...listen and drop a comment below with your thoughts. We will express our thoughts on this matter, on a special Food 4 Thought coming next week. Keep it locked. Continue
So where were we? Ah, yes. Lupe Fiasco went on a radio tirade , pleading his case, right after it appeared everything was all good between these two artists. Now, Andrew has been covering this controversy the past week or so, but I figured I would lay my two cents down as well. While I understand where both of these artists are coming from, the ultimate responsibility is on Pete Rock to end it once and for all. As Pete put it in his statement, "No ego, but I know my place in this game. I’m recognized [...]

Lupe spoke with Sway about his recent misunderstanding with legendary Pete Rock. I'll let the interview speak for itself.
Beef's clearly on the menu today in rap. Earlier, Lupe Fiasco called into "Sway In The Morning" to give his version of what transpired between Pete Rock, Atlantic Records and [...]
First things first: You want to know why I'm posting this? Because it's fucking dumb and needs to be brought to your attention. I could ignore it and look the other way, but this has got to be the stupidest thing happening in rap right now. Yes, it is indeed lamer than the YMCMB/G.O.O.D. Music beef because at least that shit has some records to go with it. All Pete Rock and Lupe Fiasco have with each other are words, most of which appeared on your Twitter feed. Anyway, you know how we posted about how these [...]

Lupe Fiasco just recently released his first single off of his new album Food and Liquor 2 . It hadn't been out for a whole day and it was met with controversy. The song "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)" features a sample from the song "They Reminisce Over You" (TROY) by Pete Rock and CL Smooth . Apparently Pete Rock was upset about him using that sample, even though he got permission to use it. Personally I don't care if Pete Rock is upset, he sampled the sax part from Tom Scott [...]

If you heard Lupe Fiasco 's new single - the "They Reminisce Over You"-sampling/interpolating "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)" - you probably saw some headlines about how Pete Rock wasn't too happy with the Chicago rapper. Rock felt that it was a load of bullshit that his most personal song would get treated in that way, especially in the form of a major-label single. And, of course, everyone and their mother weighed in on the, erm, fiasco on Twitter, Facebook, and the like. But it appears that the wave of bullshit [...]

You know the dilemma: Lupe dropped his "T.R.O.Y."-inspired new single "Around My Way," and legendary producer Pete Rock felt a certain way about it. Pete Rock took to Twitter complaining about Lupe, then Lupe went to radio and explained the situation. Well, the good news is that Pete and Lu spoke last night and the two were able to reconcile - they took to Twitter to clarify: Lupe Fiasco: Shout to the Friends&Family for bringing some internal closure to this...all g on this side Pete...Big Chuck whaddup... #MyGodFoReal Listen [...]
Lupe sits down with "The Morning Riot" in Chicago to talk about Pete Rock's issues with " Around My Way ," Food & Liquor 2 , Lasers , the newest wave of artists coming out of the Chi and a handful of other topics. I personally think his new single is subpar, but what do I know, I'm just a blogger. By the way, did I ever tell yall about the time Lupe broke my Twitter? I made ONE comment about his Tweet-to-music ratio right before Lasers dropped and the next thing you [...]

Lupe Fiasco is currently in Chicago, and visited WGCI's Morning Riot. He spoke to hosts Tony Scofield and Leon Rogers about his forthcoming album, and Pete Rock's tirade in response to Lupe's new single, "Freedom Ain't Free". Pete Rock was displeased that Lupe Fiasco's new single sampled his classic record, "T.R.O.Y." with CL Smooth. Lupe said he was surprised because of the amounts of remakes already out, and said they also cleared the sample with Pete. He talks more about his creative process and more. Watch it below.

Fresh off the release of his new single, Lupe hit WGCI's The Morning Riot to talk about a few things including his upcoming album, Pete Rock, his creative process and the youth movement in Chicago's hip-hop scene. Lu has some great words for the younger Chicago artists here. Lu also says Pete Rock gave the track his blessings when he initially reached out. Interesting.
Last night, Lupe Fiasco unveiled "Around My Way," the Pete Rock sampling first single from his new album, wait for it, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1 . Lupe fans have been waiting for a sequel to the MC's damn near classic debut album Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor for years, and it looks like they'll finally get it on September 25th. Listen to the first single below; we'll update this space when more information is available: [...]

via Spin Mag On Sunday night, Lupe Fiasco dropped "Around My Way (Freedom Isn't Free)" Any hip-hop fan should immediately recognize the saxophone riff and bass line lazily lifted from Tom Scott's "Today", a sample used in one of the most iconic hip-hop songs of all time, Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth's 1992 "They Reminisce Over You
A few days ago I announced Lupe was dropping a new single off his upcoming "Food & Liquor II" album. Well, neither I or Lupe are one's to disappoint. This fits right in Lupe's lane and is a polished sound of the first "Food & Liquor" album. So for your listening pleasure, press plan and listen to the new track "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)" which samples the classic Pete Rock "T.R.O.Y." Update: Whelp, it looks like Pete Rock isn't impressed. I'm not flattered @ all. Dat shit is [...]
Lupe Fiasco has debuted the lead single from his upcoming record, Food & Liquor II . “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free) definitely sounds familiar as it samples this classic Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth “ T.R.O.Y. ” While the track certainly sees Lupe return to a more underground, lyric focused material, he has managed to piss off yet another person. Pete Rock took to Twitter to basically calls the track an insult. Now, I’m sure Lupe didn’t do anything on purpose, but a call to the material’s original owner should have taken place, to make sure [...]

Torae just released this video for his track 'That Raw' off his album For the Record. He premiered the video on allhiphop.com and described "That Raw" as just being a raw MC, a raw lyricist and giving you real content. When you think of “That Raw” in the streets you think of uncut heroin or

How long has it been since the Chocolate Boy Wonder™ Pete Rock has blessed these humble pages? Too long, I say. So let's call on Torae, a man who clearly has good taste in producers , to fix that. 'Rae's latest album, For The Record , boasts a quality beat from Pete named 'That Raw', with laid back, head nodding grooves a plenty. Now, 'That Raw' has been given the video [...]

Torae x Pete Rock is pretty much a textbook definition of rawness. It's fitting then, that the two would come together to create the "That Raw", a reminder this kind of Hip Hop still exists. And I fucking love it. Torae is one of the coldest emcees, and Pete Rock... It's Pete Rock. Watch the video below of Torae's last LP, For The Record .
