Here is this week's music singles chart #5. A new #1 and its from a Ottawa band who knocked out M.I.A. Only two new debuts, three fallers, one hold steady and four risers. If you have any suggest on who you want in the Top 10, just make a comment. Check out who is in this week's Top 10. This Week Last Week Total Weeks Artist Song [...]
i Here is a new installment of the music singles chart. There is a new #1 song this week. Decided to use the "Double A-sided" style which the British use. If you don't like that one song from that artist you might like the other song. Check out this week's chart. This Week Last Week Total Weeks Artist Song [...]

A couple of weeks ago I was window shopping in Glasgow when I chanced upon a wee stall selling replica football tops and assorted football related t-shirts - Scotland Argentina '78 -inspired designs and the likes. Unfortunately, the Celtic-inspired tops seemed to be the best - the Ramones logo re-done with the names of the Lisbon Lions, the Dylan 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' video where Bob discards 3 cards saying " It's A ", " Grand Old Team ", " To Play For ". Umpteen Larsson tops. That sort of thing. Amongst all the Archie Gemmell and Old [...]

Its pretty crazy how much you can learn about yourself through just one person. I've been away... way too long. Lo siento. Much apologies. But here comes a new year and a new decade; get ready: I've learned that in order to see another's point of view you first have to be able to see why you have your own point of view. Its good to want things; its also good to be able to compromise. Sometimes what's best for you isn't best for the long term. Sometimes you don't realize [...]

Superadas las reticencias iniciales, Break Up [...]

"Now You're Away and I Write Home Every Day" It's hard to find thw time to listen to new music when you're travelling, let along write about it. But it's also hard to watch television in a country where you dont speak the language. Which is why stumbling accross an hour or so of music videos is a rather magical thing. I wish I could say that as a result I have fallen in love with Parisian rap or a grunge band from Lyon...but alas not yet. I have, however, developed a bit of [...]

En su elepé anterior, Anywere I Lay My Head , Scarlett Johansson desató ácidas críticas. Su voz sonaba mal y daba la impresión que estaba a punto de suicidarse. [...]

I know this is a bit later than usual, but Southern California doesn't really experience fall until around November. In any case, better late than never I suppose. Fall's Hope is a mix of heartbreaking songs that I think capture the season rather beautifully. There are some new artists on here, along with some blog favorites, and I hope you enjoy the hell out of every last song. If you do, please consider supporting the artist by buying their album or at least the song! [...]

The news of the unlikely duo made me kind of wonder if their album was a car wreck waiting to happen. I had read everywhere that it was going to be their answer to Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot, but everybody was thinking, more lik e She & Him . An impossible feat to compete with, because, when's the last time you ever read any bad press about M. Ward or Zooey Deschanel? The critics love them and they also loved to hate on Scarlett's Tom Waits covers album. I had [...]

Cannibal Cheerleader has long been the apologist blog for Scarlett Johansson's solo career, even though the brilliance that was Anywhere I Lay My Head deserved no such excuses, and her new album Break Up with Pete Yorn is no exception - here's a sure to be misunderstood record that features the starlet's haunting vocals alongside sparse instrumentation, all the while lamenting about love and loss. Not necessarily the most unique or original concept album but a winner nonetheless, considering the nuance and passion Johansson injects into every verse. Definitely worth a spin! [...]

Damnit. I'll say that again, for dramatic effect. Damnit. I want to get this out of the way, so you can skip the rest of this post or read intently, accordingly: I like this record. So there's that. Pete Yorn has always been, for better or worse, about three steps behind Ryan Adams on the songwriter career evolution path and frankly, releasing Break Up , an album of duets with a gorgeous Hollywood starlet ( Scarlett Johansson ), who fancies herself a vocalist isn't going to set [...]

Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson - Breaking Up Release date: September 15, 2009 [ amazon.com ] You can tell this is not a candid photo for a number of reasons. 1) Johansson is looking at him and not for a way to escape. 2) Yorn is looking at lyrics/chords and not at her (boobs). 3) Pete Yorn is Pete Yorn and not Bill Murray. 4) You cannot see Johansson's chain-smoking inspired voice, which is normally visible within legal distance of her person. [...]

Movie stars like making music, it's just a fact of life. Remember Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time?" Or more recently Jamie Foxx's surprisingly successful hip-hop career (thanks Kanye). In the world of indie/folk, we saw last years pairing of M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel as She & Him. The duo created a lot of hype, but released a good, but ultimately disappointing album. And so we come to 2009 and we have the eerily similar pairing of Pete Yorn and Scarlet Johansson. Even eerier is the fact that it too is a good, but ultimately disappointing album. Because I [...]
