Admittedly, I haven't been paying much attention to Arcade Fire for a long time, because last time I listened to them in 2006, the only reasonable song of theirs was "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)." Yet, even that song is kind of boring. Not into the whole "Modest Mouse" pitchy voice thing either. In 2006 when "Tunnels" was released, we knew two people who talked about how awesome the band was. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, always, but those same two people also enjoyed bands like Rascal Flatts, Pete Yorn and Lifehouse, which pretty much speaks for itself. [...]

Thank you to all of the current and past veterans out there today. It's a remarkable sacrifice you've made, and your efforts to protect and support the U.S. are appreciated. Across the world, we celebrate Armistice Day as well. Hopefully, we can move toward a global society that relies on diplomacy and not war to settle its disputes. As today is the eleventh day of the eleventh month in the eleventh year of this new millenium, we're re-posting Blogophilia 11. So, if you havent already, download it and crank it to 11. Look for Friday's Free [...]

And the parade continues... I forget how much fun I had making these. Blogophilia 11 was released in September 2009. If you've been following along, you should have noticed that I am deep in my "Intro" phase for mixes. I am not sure why I stopped that. Maybe that's something to consider for next mix. The highlights for #11 are All the Kings Men by Wild Beasts and Sleep All Summer by The National and Saint Vincent . I apologize for putting the Pete Yorn tune on [...]
We've been watching the proliferation of music festivals in Florida over the last few years with great interest and this morning a new player has emerged in the form of the inaugural Orlando Calling festival. Produced by Festival Republic, who organize the Reading and Leeds festivals in the U.K., Orlando Calling features a genre-defying lineup that should appeal to a wide range of music fans. The event will take place at the large Citrus Bowl football stadium in Orlando on November 12 -13. Saturday (November 12) and Sunday's [...]
The mysterious is over; the lineup for the inaugural Orlando Calling music festival is here. Set to take place November 12-13 at Orlando's Citrus Bowl Park, the festival will feature an eclectic mix of modern rock and classic rock, hip hop, R&B, and country, with acts like The Killers, The Raconteurs, Pixies, The Roots, Kid Rock, and Bob Seeger & the Silver Bullet Band topping the bill, according to Billboard.com . Billboard reports that the festival's first day will lean toward a more modern sound. Joining The Killers, The Raconteurs, Pixies, and The Roots will [...]
The former Pedro the Lion frontman is coming to the Casbah Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.
Fans of Pete Yorn would be wise to check out Matthew Mayfield's performance at Rumba Cafe on Saturday night. The Alabama singer-songwriter fronted Moses Mayfield (2002-2008) before embarking on a solo career that has yielded a couple of EPs and a full length, Now You're Free , which contains 11-tracks of mid-America somber/soundtrack pop. Snag four free tracks through NoiseTrade.com in exchange for your email address. Saturday night's show is a co-headling gig with Matt Duke [...]

It's weird, Austin's not really known for having a lot of duos. But, one duo that has recently come to our attention has been Not in the Face . This Austin act is scheduled to release their album, Bikini , on June 7th via Electric Factory Records . This first single does have a little bit of a Bruce hint to it, but Jonathan Terrell's vocals seem to have the feeling of a more hardened Pete Yorn . Yea, it's just good old fashioned rock n' roll with [...]

Actually, we've rounded up 21 free tracks for you this week. Go on, get downloading. 1. Black Lips - 'New Direction' The Lips' Mark Ronson-produced album, 'Arabia Mountain', comes to the UK this June, but Rolling Stone is giving away an exclusive early taster with the short garage rock track 'New Direction'. Last year, the band told Pitchfork that they "like to have really good-sounding fuzz" in their music, and that 'Arabia Mountain' will be "less muddy" and "a lot better" than their last album '200 Million Thousand'. Bring on [...]

I have been a fan of the site Daytrotter for several years now. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Daytrotter, it is a music site that has a little studio they call The Horseshack in downtown Rock Island, IL. They invite bands to stop by in between shows while they are on tour to record a short little session, which is then put up on the site for free download along with a cartoon drawing of the artist and a short essay on the band and their music. Often the sessions are nothing more than spontaneous re-workings of [...]

Lanky and perhaps too good-looking for his own good, singer-songwriter Pete Yorn was both blessed and cursed by having a successful debut album. Back in 2001, when he released Musicforthemorningaf... On March 14 at the 9:30 Club, I covered my very first concert for WGTB. I was fortunate enough to get to review one of my favorite artists, Ben Kweller , alongside a possibly more famous co-headliner, Pete Yorn . The two share a grungy acoustic-semi-alternative kind of sound that I find infectious, but that made my dear father giggle with mirth when I played it for him: "I love the voice cracks!" Before the concert began, I was lucky enough to sit down to talk with Mr. Pete Yorn. When I asked about themes that [...]
Words and photos by Debi Del Grande Oh men and their guitars. There is nothing like watching and listening to a guitar being played by someone who handles it like it was a part of their being. And we were treated to two such men in Pete Yorn and Ben Kweller at the Wiltern in [...]

Pete Yorn's tour to promote the rerelease of Music For The Morning After was simple and sweet, just like a seventeen year old.
