Back!...Plus a Playlist!! So...yeah. I've been absent from the blogging world since before Thanksgiving. I saw this whole merger with Google and thought it'd be a pain to set everything up but it wasn't. Besides that, I really don't have too much to post about...I think. The station got the new OC Mix in the mail and I'll be sure to get up a couple of tracks from that ie: Band of Horses covering The New Year and Goldspot covering Modest Mouse. One thing I have to mention is the [...]

Gratuitous "look what I did yesterday" post, but it was a balmy 78 degrees here, an absolutely gorgeous day to visit our fantastic Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for the first time. These pics I took of the animals made me laugh. Thought they might make you smile too. Loosely correlated tunes at the end. " At The Zoo " - Simon & Garfunkel [...]

It just never ends. Most towns have the good shows reserved for Thursday through Sunday. Not Austin! Everyday of the week has something worth while, so get out there and check 'em out! Jenny Lewis Monday is slow, as it should be, so check out Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins at Stubb's for a laid back show featuring great harmonies and jangly guitar pop. Things pick up a bit on Tuesday [...]

Ah, 2006. I think it was a great year for music -- but then again I think that if you're open to listening to a whole bunch of different things without much regard for major/minor/no label, "coolness" factor, or obscurity, then every year can be a very good year. I've been refreshed in 2006 to be reminded that music is literally an endless fount that is constantly gushing. You plug up one hole only to have a new leak spring up somewhere else, a new voice, a fresh sound. It's really quite freaking fantastic. [...]

Credit: Jim Wright Before we left for the Pitchfork Festival in July, I had Aug. 2 circled on my calendar because Pete Yorn was playing a show in Scottsdale. Somewhat surpisingly, that sold out weeks before the date (and before we got tickets), a rare occurrence in the Valley. Anyway, he also was slated to play an in-store at Zia Records in Chandler, which, if you live in Phoenix like I do, is a bit out of the way. Because we had just returned [...]

Pete Yorn put out a slew of bonus tracks with various retailer versions of his new disc Nightcrawler (which is growing on me quite nicely, thank you). According to a recent interview on Brooklyn Vegan with the Yornster, here is the logic behind such a move: "These days, in order to boost get good placement in stores, you usually throw in a bonus track exclusive, which at first I was hesitant to do because I thought it was just going to piss off my fansâ€"you [...]

Montville, NJ Pete Yorn is only playing in three cities - Chicago, NYC, and DC - before heading down under for an Australian tour during the month of October. Nightcrawler is his latest album, and I love it! "Maybe I'm Right" Pete Yorn on MySpace

Lots of nice releases on this edition of The D aily Graboid , with the big gun of this bunch being Bob Dylan's Modern Times . It's interesting because I haven't even heard anything off the album, yet it was the first thing I did when I left the house yesterday was to go out and buy it. Do I hold Bobby D on some kind of pedestal? You're damn right I do, as one of the greatest living songwriters, he can pretty much live [...]

Next Tuesday has two pretty big releases from American singer/songwriters. They are Pete Yorn's Nightcrawler and Ray Lamontagne's Till The Sun Turns Black . The new Pete Yorn disc is his third studio album and it is the completion of his Morning ( musicforthemorningafter , 2001)/Day ( Day I Forgot , 2003)/Night ( Nightcrawler , 2006) trilogy. Yorn says "When you hear it, you'll understand. This could be the last one. I could be three records and [...]

So yesterday I finally got the chance to get out the clubs and go out golfing. Its been awhile (approx. 2yrs) since I`ve last been out so needless to say I was very rusty..We actually did alright though and we couldn`t of asked for better weather....I took some hilarious video clips of us on the course so feel free to download them if you want... Golf Clip #1 Golf Clip #2 [...]
Mmmmm yes. The dreamboat that is Pete Yorn. Women love him, men want to be him. He's got everybody right where he wants them (in his own way). I really do have quite a bit of respect and admiration for the man, because he makes some great records. Facing up to facts, his last album "Day I Forgot" wasn't nearly as strong as his debut "Musicforthemorningafter." Still, both albums are great in their own rights, and the good news for Pete Yorn fans is that he's got another new album coming out on August 29th. It's called "Nightcrawler," and it [...]

Ah, where to begin? I have just spent a fantabulous two days saturated with all the Pete Yorn I can handle (although yes, I'd go for more). Two in-store appearances packed with acoustic rarities, two fantastic concerts with the full repertoire of songs, and a one interview for y'all - an insight into the mind of the man behind the music. Pete Yorn is an authentic, quality singer-songwriter with heartfelt passion for his music. This 32-year-old from Jersey combines raw urgency with melodic beauty, and I think that he is currently [...]

I have been finding a lot of interesting reading on the always-packed-with-goodness Largehearted Boy blog/music news conglomerate. I recommend you browse it yourself, but the single link that I thought was the most amusing recently was this description of a new game, iPod War . It's like the old card game you played when you were seven because it was the only game you could understand ("War! My eight beats your two!"), but with iPods set to shuffle. Sounds lame a little, yes, but the way she explains it [...]
What else is nostalgia good for than to remind us of the places we’ve been and the place that we seem to effortlessly reside in at the moment? As a result of my most recent nostalgia trip, a low octane snooze fest into my senior year of high school and back again, I have realized that a lot has changed for me in the last 5 years. My hair is a little longer (unsurprising to many), I can now speak

My favorites from Part 1 were the Kiss and U2 covers. Excellente! Here is Part 2 of the covers. Some of these bands are not realy high in my book but any band who realizes the importance of the Ramones gets a notch up on my ratings. The influence of this band is huge all throughout the music world. Thank God for Ramones! Part 1 is here . We're A Happy Family: A Tribute To The Ramones Various Sony (2003) mp3 Havana Affair [...]

I know this one is a little late, but you'll probably get 2 this week because of it... Mother Love Bone: Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns Lets start with a classic. I'm not sure if many of you know the history of this band, but if you don't you will now. Mother Love Bone was one of the huge "buzz bands" of Seattle in the late 80's/early 90's. They weren't quite grunge and they weren't quite hair metal, they blended a bit of each that ended up [...]
Gary Reynolds and The Brides of Obscurity gave me a bit of a surprise recently. You see, the album, "Instant Happiness" arrived in my mailbox some time ago and after the first listen I thought it was pretty good. But the surprise was my return to the disc for repeated listens. Reynolds brings his Bowie-esque vocals and combines them with the heavy guitar section of his band to allow this disc to shine. Its rare these days that a band with such obvious influences can get our attention and keep it. Id be [...]
