![[Clifton Heights Music Festival] Day 1](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2454610_lg.jpg)
Last night marked out the first night of the Clifton Heights Music Festival. A staggering 1,300 people turned out to check out 40 local bands across the festival's six venues in the Heights: Rohs Street Cafe, Baba Budan's, Mac's, Uncle Woody's, Christy's and Murphy's Pub. As a resident of Clifton Heights for four years, I was psyched to see so many people out for something other than a pub crawl or a riot on Wheeler. I started out at Baba Budan's to check out No No Knots , the Cincinnati super group featuring [...]

( photo by Chris Bergman ) Cincinnati's own Peter Adams is already known for his talent. After all, he has released two excellent albums in his short time as a musicians on the local scene, both of which garnered praise on a local and national level. Earlier this year, Adams and his band appeared in the WOXY lounge and said they were going on a bit of a hiatus as a band, and that Peter would be focusing other individual projects. Not long after, Peter was asked by the [...]

In advance of headlining the opener of Cincinnati's Indie Summer series, Peter Adams and his backing band The Nocturnal Collective returned for their second performance in the Lounge. They first played for us just over a year earlier, shortly after the release of I Woke With Planets In My Face , Peter's second record, which came in at #54 on the 97 Best of 2008. It's an orchestral indie-pop gem. In fact, we were catching them just as they were preparing to go on hiatus in order to allow Peter to work on providing music [...]

I couldn't wait to get the crasher out of my life.. Η τελευταία κυκλοφορία των The Wake , φυσικά από την Sarah Records .. Και όμως! μέσα στο 2009 θα κυκλοφορήσουν νέο άλμπουμ. Μισό τέτοιο ρεφρέν ας έχει και δε [...]

We love the soothing sounds of singer / songwriter Peter Adams , and you should too. And we also love the album Neutral Milk Hotel released back in 1998 In the Aeroplane Over the Sea , and we are betting you might as well. So imagine if we were to marry these two things together, Peter and In the Aeroplane Over the Sea , pretty nice eh? Well, its a reality and it's going down this Saturday night here in Cincinnati as a special concert night. Peter Adams and his band The [...]

It is our 400th post here at GFP. How exciting! Not that I can think of anything huge to mark the occasion. So instead I'm going to write about Peter Adams. Peter Adams is a musician from Cincinnati (midwest represent!). I've heard people compare him to Radiohead, which I think is an apt observation. His music has an orchestral whimsy to it that I really enjoy. It also kind of reminds me of a

I'm going to get the crux of this review over with right here: Peter Adams made one of the best albums of 2008 and almost nobody noticed. Now you should proceed immediately to PeterAdamsMusic.com and download I Woke With Planets In My Face for whatever price you choose (make sure you throw him some money, the guy has earned it). If you'd like to stick around, or if you made it back, I'll go into a little more detail about why I believe this album deserves such high praise. First, though, a [...]
Enn og aftur fær blessað tónlistarbloggið að sitja á hakanum. Of mikið að gera á öðrum vígstöðvum. This really isn't a "Best of" list as much as it's simply a highly subjective grouping of my favorite and therefore most played albums of 2008 ... in no particular order . Gang Gang Dance: St. Dymphna [ The Social Registry ] St. Dymphna [ buy ] from Brooklyn's experimental outfit Gang Gang Dance is light years ahead [...]

The concert season has taken quite an uptick over the past 6 to 8 weeks and you know things are going well when you get a show this good on a Monday night. This evening, you get a couple of our favorite bands as These United States return to the Cincinnati area for a show along with a local act that has had a great year in Peter Adams & The Nocturnal Collective. TUS released their second album this year, Crimes , which has been in constant rotation for me and [...]

"It is my pleasure to invite you to the Clapperclaw Music + Arts Festival 2008 ( www.clapperclawfestival.com ). Clapperclaw is an annual festival celebrating breakout music and arts, with a specific focus on promoting Twin Cities artists. It is a mischievous event, one full of surprises that will have exposure to a wide-ranging experience. This year we have expanded to more artists, more fashion, a breadth of bands and we have taken over two floors in a [...]
Whenever I get a press release in the mail that describes a band as sounding like The Beatles or Radiohead I sigh to myself and consider not listening to the album. It seems like whenever rock musicians are asked to describe what they sound like, somehow one of those bands is mentioned almost every single time. If you play a guitar, you sound like the Beatles. If a keyboard: Radiohead. So, imagine my chagrin to receive Peter Adams' album in the mail the other day, accompanied by a brief description citing Adams as sounding like both The Beatles and Radiohead. [...]

Recently I had to reformat my mp3 player and quickly threw a slew of songs into the player. In the bunch were some older tracks by a band called Ox . And in amongst those was this cover of Cheap Trick's "Surrender". Give it a listen and/or download... come to think of it, try out the rest, as well. Pssst... that's a new * Franz Ferdinand track sitting down there. ox surrender ox [...]

The songs on Cincinnati psych/folk genius Peter Adams ' self-released sophomore album are as epic and stratospherical as the title --- I Woke With Planets In My Face [ buy ]. Each track is a majestic journey into soundscapes filled with the elegance and innocence of Andrew Bird , the drama and tension of Radiohead and the lo-fi/neo-psych sensibilities of Neutral Milk Hotel . This pay-what-you [...]

Makes you feel a bit inadequate when you happen upon artists like Peter Adams. Barely into his twenties Adams has an uncanny knack for knocking together splendid collections of songs. His star is in the ascendancy and when it finally hangs at its highest point in the sky it will outshine all others. 'The Seventh Seal' is evidence enough for his eventual world domination, glory in that voice (

Back in my college radio days, I would pick which albums I would review based solely on their cover art. My thinking was thus: if an artist takes his aesthetics seriously, he will invest in some good cover art. Needless to say this claim was utterly unsubstantiated, but it paid off in a few instances. Take for instance unsigned Cincinnati singer-songwriter Peter Adams . The surreal, swirling Crayola-and-watercolor cover art for his debut, 2004's The Spiral Eyes , makes an impressive facsimile for the music. Adams' production is string-heavy and baroque while his melodies are sweet [...]

Seems like a ton of bands out there have similar names. I pitted a few against each other. Would love to get your opinion on which band you prefer.
