Peter Bradley Adams just seems to be destined for vocal harmony with a female counterpart. Since he first broke through with the legendary Eastmountainsouth (and musical partner Kate Maslich-Bode ) a decade ago and lately on his own solo albums -- like this year's Between Us -- with Katie Herzig , Molly Parden (see our recent RADAR) and Aoife O'Donovan of Crooked Still [...]

It's up to you, dear reader, to decide what you like in this veritable grab bag of songs. I saved the emails for some reason or other but now it's time to clear them out. There's something for everyone, I hope. And there's still plenty more where this came from. Pretty good song. Kinda reminds me of Josh Ritter a little bit... or a lot. Not sure. But still good non the less. We should all enjoy Peter Bradley Adams while we can. He will obviously turn out to be a serial killer with that kind of name. And once that happens he is going to go all mainstream n' junk. I wish I had access to a stairwell with such good acoustics. Would be a great place to record the vocals for my ska/rap/dub step/calypso/alt-country fusion project I have been working on. It's called "The [...]

In case you missed it, former eastmountainsouthman Peter Bradley Adams released his fourth solo record last week, Between Us , through Maine-based Mishara Music. Between Us is comprised of songs written during Adams' 2009 move to New York City, and as we might expect given his past output, the results are very impressive indeed. The album version of Katy finds PBA picking up an assist from k.d. lang's band, but he recently stopped by The Stairwell Sessions to [...]
Peter Bradley Adams - Acclaimed singer/songwriter returns with his fourth fine solo album of gentle neo-folk since moving on from Eastmountainsouth, the duo he formed with singer Kate Maslich-Bode a decade ago for one legendary album...instrumental backing includes work from guitarists Joe McMahan, Jonathan Trebing and Lex Price -- each of whom shared production credits with Adams on various tracks. Harmonies provided by Maslich-Bode, Katie Herzig (who sings backup appropriately on the song "Katy") and Aoife O'Donovan (from Boston new acoustic outfit Crooked Still) // Release : Between Us (Mishara, [...]
Taken as an advance and exclusive sneak peak of Peter Bradley Adams ' highly-anticipated June 14 album Between Us , "Be Still My Heart" is everything we've come to love about Adams' distinctive, low-keyed folk/pop songs: quietly stunning and atmospheric production, incomparable songwriting and Adams' soft-spoken, just-this-side-of-husky vocals. "Heart" is all about "running and trying to stand still at the same time" says the former member of the groundbreaking folk duo Eastmountainsouth -- and here he gets sterling support from Nashville's Molly Parden on backing vocals (who we featured recently) and [...]
We first discovered Nashville-based singer Molly Parden (no kin to Ms. Parton, as she points out on her site) via her fine vocal backup on Peter Bradley Adams' upcoming album Between Us . Turns out Parden is also a budding songwriter, too -- something that we'll learn more about when she releases her recently completed, fan-funded solo debut later this year. For now, we've been digging into her four-track folk/pop EP and songs like "C'est La Vie". More? Check out the videos after the jump... [...]

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Direct Current! This new seasonal classic from Eastmountainsouth's Peter Bradley Adams is available as a free download at his site ...and makes us look forward to his new solo album, the follow up the excellent 2009 Traces , due next year. Peter Bradley Adams - "Snow Will Fall Tonight"

As I noted earlier this week, we don't hold with ordered lists at year's end, preferring instead to recognize the diversity of greatness we hear and rediscover as part of an ongoing process. But in keeping with our ongoing mandate to bring you our subjective best in folk and acoustic coverage, in the hopes that you might pursue our recommendations and passalongs to support those artists directly, it seems fair to note which songs still remain high on our playlist, echoing through our head long after we introduced you to them through the pages of this blog. [...]
Eastmountainsouth made only one album, 2003's self-titled project, but the music of Peter Bradley Adams and Kat Maslich-Bode has become something of an enigmatic touchstone for stellar acoustic music and breathtakingly beautiful harmonies. Signed by The Band's Robbie Robertson to the fledgling Dreamworks label, the debut still sounds as fresh and timeless as it did seven years ago. The two split, Adams going on to a solid solo career while Maslich-Bode settled happily into marriage and motherhood. But the duo reunited this year for a brief tour and Kat appears on Adams' forthcoming new 2011 album. [...]

Remember Eastmountainsouth? They were one of the my favorite indie bands in the early aughts. Since then, one half of the duo - Peter Bradley Adams - has released a few solo albums. But his feminine counterpart seemed to disappear...until now. Kat Maslich-Bode's six-track solo debut, The Road of 6 , will be officially released by Mishara Records on January 18th and is already available for purchase on Amazon and iTunes. A lovely little collection of folk-influenced pop and country, The Road of 6 is carried by Kat's warm and substantial voice. The album features [...]
Official | Buy About two years ago this was my theme song. I loved it so much that I ignored all the religious overtones and reveled in the lyrics, song craftmanship, and Peter Bradley Adams' soothing voice. I vividly remember driving back from a wonderful winter weekend in the Alps with my friends with this song playing in the background as I navigated windy dark roads back to the city. Even though I have played this song hundreds of other times since then, I love how music connects itself to one specific moment in one's [...]

Boy, do I have a gold mine for you all this week! I'm a little giddy if you can't tell. Firstly, one of our favorites, Peter Bradley Adams, has one, "For You," for download right now. You don't even have to add yourself to one of his email lists or anything. And yes, I know that if you've used Pandora for more than two hours you've heard of him before, but you probably didn't know about this, so here it is! http://sarathan.com/free/peter bradleyadams/PBA/ForYou.mp3.zi p Second-of-ly, Urban Outfitters has its own nice little 25 song download [...]

Saturday was Record Store Day , and though we're off in Disney World - the least indie place in the known universe - it seemed nonetheless appropriate to ground today's program in our most album-oriented feature. Happily, there's a bunch of solid tribute albums lurking on the horizon, both in and out of the folkworld. June, especially, promises to be exciting, with a John Prine tribute and a tribute to the songs of Shel Silverstein scheduled to drop almost simultaneously. The Prine tribute is much more [...]

According to Wikipedia, Peter Bradley Adams is a folk-pop Americana singer-songwriter from Birmingham, Alabama. How wonderfully nondescript and forgettable. And that's how I approached PBA's music. Having seen an ad on Facebook advertising his music, since I had said I liked William Fitzsimmons, I clicked through, listened, and realised I had heard it before - in two ways. Firstly, I had already gotten some music by PBA. And secondly, I had heard this type of song a hundred times before over the last few years. And [...]
When I was 7 years old until I was about 12, living in Birmingham AL, I had a weekly ritual... I would walk two miles to the little record store called Charlamagne Records (it's still there!) and pour over the stacks of used vinyl... it was really my most valuable musical education... more than any actual schooling... just taking those records home and putting them on my dad's record player while he was at work changed my ears forever.
