Read the latest installment of " From The Lean-To " on Outside Magazine here . This week's column is about Al Arnold, pioneer of Badwater , the 135-mile course that starts at the Western Hemisphere's lowest point, Badwater Basin in Death Valley, and ends at Whitney Portal, the trailhead to the lower 482s highest point, Mount Whitney. The race takes place in mid-July (The 2011 version started yesterday, July 11. See the connection?), when the weather conditions can exceed 120 °F, even in the [...]
So so good. I love getting absolutely hooked on a song. This time around, it's "Need Your Love So Bad", an old blues song written by Mertis John Jr., first published in 1955, and performed by his younger brother Little Willie John. The other night, my brother and I went out to catch Gov't Mule at the Marquee Theater, and nestled among the many great songs of the evening was this gem. Warren Haynes with his heartfelt and soulful vocals and blues guitar... Danny Louis churning softly on the Hammond [...]

Music Review: John Mayall – Live in London (2CD/DVD)
The Godfather of the Blues lives up to his legend in London.
9/26: Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac – Man of the World (1969)
Not to hate on Stevie Nicks, but I've got to say "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac" was somethin else.
9/20: John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers – The Stumble (1967)
Peter Green fills Clapton's shoes quite nicely on the follow up to Mayall's famous Bluesbreakers w/ Eric Clapton Album. This one is a pretty rad insturmental cut.

10/3: Fleetwood Mac – Shake Your Moneymaker (1968)
Before the Buckingham/Nicks fluff, this band was tuff. It was Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and along with guitarist Jeremy Spencer he played songs that reflected the influence of American bluesmen such as Robert Johnson, Elmore James and Howlin' Wolf.
8/23: John Mayall – Parchman Farm (1966)
Blues singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist John Mayall has another gift—for spotting talent. His band, The Bluesbreakers, boasts a long list of famous alumni that includes Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Mick Taylor. <a href=" http://click.linksynergy.com/f s-bin/stat?id=G2xFVEaT2wQ&offe rid=146261&type=3&subid=0&tmpi d=1826&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F %252Fitunes.apple.com%252Fus%2 52Falbum%252Fparchman-farm-ste reo%252Fid85854%253Fi%253D8583 2%2526uo%253D4%2526partnerId%2 53D30" target="itunes_store
