Peter Mayer: Holy Now [ purchase ] Sundown this evening marked the end of Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement; twenty years ago, or even five, the day would have had me in temple, naming my sins alongside the community in a language I can speak but cannot understand, hoping that G-d would find my repentance sincere enough to inscribe me in the book of life for yet another year. But the older I get, the more my belief system drifts away from the conservative Judaism [...]
Looks like Nick Littlemore has officially moved on from Empire of the Sun back to one of his earlier projects, Pnau, with Peter Mayes. Although Littlemore has moved on for awhile now, hell I believe an interview I did with him back in June of 2009 was one of the last ones he did under [...]

Peter Mayer : Now Touch The Air Softly [ purchase album ] [ purchase poem ] Even to a cynical heart like mine, it seems appropriate to post this on Valentine's Day. Now touch the air softly, step gently, one, two ... I'll love you 'til roses are robin's egg blue; I'll love you 'til gravel is eaten for bread, And lemons are orange, and lavender's red. "Now Touch The Air Softly" (more formally known as "A Pavane for the [...]
Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes gained success the last couple of years with their side-project Empire of the Sun, though the duo is currently recording their fourth studio album as PNA U titled Soft Universe . The first single The Truth is out now and available for your streaming pleasure here. The lyrics are quite sad ( "Said you were confused, you fake and you fake, I thought you were the truth." ) but they obviously didn't lose their ability to create sweet, joyful synthpop.

I first heard this song back in 1997 when Peter was playing at College in Duluth. I was completely blown away by the lyrics and overall theme of the song. It is just valid and appropriate today as it was then – even ties into the man we honored yesterday. Why can't we all just get along? Listen: Peter Mayer ∞ The Birthday Party
This is from a favorite album of mine, midwinter. It was released in 2005. MP3 File yousendit

It seems I spend a lot of my time organizing stuff around the house, a sure sign that I have too many things or not enough organization. Every now and then, a stack of CDs will accumulate from one place and another, without much rhyme or reason."Stacks of wax" is much more lyrical but this is simply a random desk full of digits. Steely Dan - Brooklyn One of my all-time favorite Dan's. Oliver Nelson - Elegy For A Duck How can you not [...]

Like Bruce , I'll only post ONE Halloween song this year. Peter Mayer ~ John's Garden (it's about pumpkins)

Back in my pre-Duke days, when I was studying music in Northern Wisconsin, there was a dude who used to play at my college every year. A dude named Peter Mayer (not the Jimmy Buffet guitarist named Peter Mayer). We're talking a dude who plays guitar as well as Michael Hedges and Michael Gulizan. We're talking a dude who writes lyrics as well as Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. We're talking a dude who is the total package. It makes sense that one of his albums cracks my top ten Desert Island discs. "Million Year Mind" [...]
