Rory Gallagher - Notes from San Francisco When Rory Gallagher died from complications following a liver transplant in 1995 at only 47 years old, the music world lost one of its most influential and respected guitarists. Hendrix rated Gallagher as one of the best guitarists in the world and many others like Brian May, Eric Clapton, and The Edge cite him as an influence. This posthumous two CD release from the Irish guitarist archives features a studio album of previously unreleased material recorded in 1977 which finds Rory in fine form [...]

A original member of the Wailers, Peter Tosh was easily one of the baddest dudes to ever roam the earth. A true revolutionist who took Reggae music's rebellious message to a whole new level. Tosh helped take Reggae to an international level with the help of the Rolling Stones, whom he frequently toured with. While most associate Reggae as laid back "stoner" music, Tosh definitely brought a sinister vibe to the genre and his militant stance against injustice led to his demise and eventual assassination, damn just realized almost every great Reggae artist passed way earlier than they should have. These discs tell brilliantly the story of Tosh's first two utterly essential albums, from the struggle of Legalize It to the bursting creativity and anger of Equal Rights . When Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and Bob Marley parted ways in 1973, you'd think that the end of such a fruitful and tight bond between players would have had a negative effect. Instead, Bunny Wailer put out the lush and excellent Blackheart Man and Marley hit the Top 10 in the U.S. with Rastaman Vibration. It was Tosh, though, whose work would prove most vital after his [...]

Good morning everyone and welcome to another edition of Lazy Sundays. The artist of choice for this week is Toots and the Maytals , a Jamaican musical group well known for their ska and reggae musical styles. This rendition of the Peter Tosh 12-minute gem, Rastafari Is, is best known for its inclusion on the live disc portion of the 3-disc retrospective, Honorary Citizen. The fiery live performances for Honorary Citizen were culled from an early '80s world tour, which highlighted not only Tosh, but also his crack-shot backing band at their finest. In particular, check out lead guitarist Donald Kinsey as he steals the show with a rousing solo early on in the clip... by Ryan Dembinsky Leave A Comment [...]

I happened to spot Dogfish Head Brewery found Sam Calagione wearing a Melvins shirt in the documentary Beer Wars while perusing Netflix late one night. Sensing an appreciation for music that doesn't suck, I got in touch with Sam and asked if we could talk about his love for music. Little did I know at the time that Dogfish Head was getting ready to premiere a show on the Discovery Channel called Brewed, which starts Nov. 21. When I was watching a beer documentary and all of a sudden I [...]

During 1975 and 1976 together with her husband, Island publicity head Jeff Walker, she documented some of the genres rising stars in Jamaica and Los Angeles. 'Bob Marley and the Golden Age of Reggae' [...]

All geared up for the sweet seventeen edition of Wild Weekend? Good. The ghost in the iPod has made its choices, and diversity´s the word once again. Some reggae, some jazz, a weird cover and a lovely tribute. Plus a very recent track from a band called Great Divide and an oldie from the Captain himself. "What's the meaning of this? Poor Harry, I guess..." Been awhile since we enjoyed any Don Van Vliet magic around here, so I´m glad the lovely Harry Irene - a duo that lived in [...]

Been meaning to post this for ages. Classic track by Lee 'Scratch' Perry's 'The Upsetters' for which they enlisted the vocal talents of Peter Tosh and a young Bob Marley. Prefer the instrumental myself so I've included both. The Upsetters - Mr Brown (Dub Version) Peter Tosh & Bob Marley - Mr Brown

So was Sly Stone when the reclusive soul legend showed up at the 2006 Grammy Awards sporting a huge blond Mohawk.
