Sondre Lerche & Peter Wolf Crier/ Club Cafe / 11.23.2011 / 7:00 PM / $20 Words by Jim We had a mad rush of ticket giveaways over the past three months. Today's giveaway of course isn't the last show we will promote, but you can bet things are going to die down as winter sets in and the holidays consume [...]

Tweet A brewing storm that we eventually get to experience in all its ferocity, thankfully 'Hard As Nails' also has a wealthy heart. While it pounds our face another selection of its multi-limbed persona cradles our bruised body. Shock and awe you could call it although it is the latter that you'll take to bed with you. Peter Wolf Crier is the sound of a duo, Peter Pisano and Brian Moen, who have mileage on their clocks from other creatives yet they [...]

Photos by G. Peter Wolf I know what you are thinking - Michael Jackson is dead. The above photo might look like Michael, but it's rock god Peter Wolf! The former front man of the J. Geils Band performed at New York's Bowery Ballroom on October 26, 2011. For the first time in my New York concert going experiences at Bowery Ballroom, the show was seated. I think it worked in this setting because the show was so intimate. Peter Wolf told stories in between songs [...]

Peter Wolf is an institution, the musical equivalent of Mayor Menino's longevity in Boston politics. His early years at the MFA School as a painting major (and roommate of David Lynch) introduced him to a club scene of psychedelic R&B, fronting a band that opened for John Lee Hooker. If you only remember the "Freeze Frame" and "Centerfold" fame of J. Geils , you've missed out on a performer who conjures a smoky past. Wolf alluded to his status by listing defunct local clubs, noting that he has outlived "The Rathskeller" and all the rest. [...]

Watch Peter play in a VW, driving around Oklahoma for the VDub Sessions.

It was an admittedly small show with a fairly unknown line up. But both bands have been featured here at Austin Town Hall, so we figured it was worth taking a look. Milagres and Peter Wolf Crier were in town and played Lambert's. I figured a good Guinness pour and a barstool would do nicely the night before the TX/OU game. I met some people, heard some stories and listened to some music. Perfect. Pics and a couple more notes from the show after the jump… [...]
With their second album, Peter Wolf Crier has established themselves as a legit indie-band and not the mere side-project they seemed to be when they released last year's well-done Inter-Be. The n... Continue reading "Peter Wolf Crier's All-Time Top Five Winning Priceline Bids While on Tour" >

The duo of Peter Pisano and Brian Moen are back for their sophomore effort with Garden of Arms . Inter-Be was a great debut - full of great songwriting and excellent musicianship. In describing them to friends, I've labeled them the folk Black Keys. Garden of Arms takes everything from Inter-Be , adds more layers, more loops and more goodness. At the core, remains Moen's inch-perfect drumming and Pisano's earnest voice are awash in loops, layers and distorted guitars. And while I would normally worry when a quality band introduces so [...]
The first thing that comes to mind when listening to Peter Wolf Crier's Garden of Arms, is a reminiscent reflection of adolescence. Easy-going guitar licks and steady percussion becomes the perfect cloud-watching music to listen to, lying on the grass, holding hands with someone you love. Someone you love, but you know it's over with. There's a tragic overtone to the whole album, a sense of loss, but it works. A little bit Black Keys, a little bit Modest Mouse, Peter Wolf Crier is like a lighter version of the two, only with darker lyrics. Peter Pisano's voice brings calm in [...]
