The members of trans-Atlantic punk foursome Split Cranium must have had Cheshire Cat grins on their faces as they bashed the shit out of their instruments and larynxes recording this, their eponymous debut. It's easily the most straightforward, least introverted record that vocalist Aaron Turner has recorded since Isis disbanded, if not ever. Guitarist Jussi [...]
Happy birthday, sister. You never read my website so this message for you will most likely never be seen. Still, that shouldn't deter me from wishing you well. You're thirty years old now. Your life is pretty much over. Don't feel too bad, I'll be there in another 13 months. It's pretty weird to think [...]
Repetition is a difficult beast to wrangle. From the premier of Steve Reich's Music for Eighteen Instruments, the new wave of post-modernity screamed "excessive minimalism" in praise of its stylistic progenitor. Of course, not many people could perfectly emulate Reich's pulsing, shifting, harmonically dense style, opting for a more pure, hypnotic, unfortunately monotonous route of execution.

by BBG Pharaoh Overlord Much like in their related band Circle , Jussi Lehtisalo, Janne Westerlund and Tomi Leppänen inject their fair share of oddity into their Pharaoh Overlord project. Primarily based in the stoner-krautrock genres, Pharaoh Overlord, which now contains Faust great Hans Joachim Irmler, ventures into hynotic space-blues, jazzy passages, and even some ambient in their unique melting-pot longplayer Lunar Jetman , due on 2xLP via SIGE Records ( [...]
What a weekend. Just think, a week from today I'll either be living the high life - on cloud nine - sharing a mix tape in celebration of the New York Giants winning the Super Bowl, or I'll be the brunt of every joke made by my six Boston-native roommates if the Patriots win. I'm [...]
Horn LP is a departure from the Lord's trademark motorik doom-kraut style. This is nasty, noisy full-on art rock from the outer reaches of space, like early Sonic Youth tearing it up with Crazy Cavan & the Rhythm Rockers. The album includes three previously unheard Pharaoh Overlord compositions and a Spacemen 3 cover. Recorded live in Lahti, Finland 2011. From; Svartrecords Links;

3. päivä marraskuuta Tavastian lavalle nousee yhdysvaltalainen stoner/doom metal -yhtye Om . Legendaarisen stoner/doom metal -pioneeri Sleepin raunioille San Fransiscossa vuonna 2003 perustettu Om personoituu vahvasti basisti/vokalisti Al Cisnerokseen .
So what's news? Well, this in fact: Universal Says No To Apple Universal Music Group has declined to renew its annual contract to sell music through iTunes. The label has instead chosen to adopt an approach that allows it to market music to Apple at its initiative. At the heart of the development appears to be a dispute over the entrenched 99c price point that has been a feature of the iTunes store since its launch. The [...]

Photo credit: Soul Dirty Where in the first two instalments of this series the sky was illuminated with scorching psychedelic freak-outs, now we're gradually slowing things down and glide into more dark territory. Although we still start off with the frantic psychedelia of La Otracina, soon the music slows down with the more spaced out and hypnotic rock of Pharaoh Overlord and continues to gradually decelerate from there on. This part three acts as a bridge towards the next three instalments of the "Dark Stars in the Dazzling Sky" series in which [...]
