It's been a good 20 years since SoCal kids The Pharcyde burst out of the blocks with their debut LP Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde. But where are they now? Good question. Aside from the occasional European tour and random release aside, I couldn't really tell you. That is, until an EP from Pharcyder Slim Kid Tre Hardson fell into my grubby wee mitts. It turns out that Tre - SLIMKID3 these days - has been in the studio with DJ Nu-Mark, with the pair putting out [...]
Midweek madness: ► Robert Francis celebrates the release of his third album, "Strangers in the First Place," with a headlining show at the Troubadour, with opening sets from Leslie Stevens (solo) and Edwards & Edwards. ► The Pharcyde celebrate the 20-year anniversary of "Bizarre Ride II" at the Roxy. ► Margot and the Nuclear So and So's hold forth at the Bootleg Bar behind their March release "Rot Gut, Domestic," with Dinosaur Feathers and Whispertown opening. That's the video for "Prozac Rock," above. [...]
Yesterday the super blog, This Song is Sick , premiered a bootleg from BREAK SCIENCE . If you weren't in the know the Brooklyn duo is also signed to PRETTY LIGHTS MUSIC . I have to agree with This Song is Sick, the tune is quite summery, but the tune extends far beyond warm days and nights. This bootleg is saturated in warmth, so much so the low end feels like letting go after a long embrace. There's a little bit of vacancy here, you know, like [...]

Came across this electronic mash up of Florence and the Machine & The Pharcyde, titled "Flocyde" by Break Science. Spotted @ thissongissick.com

Dope new remix from Break Science of blending Florence + The Machine instrumentals over a Pharcyde beat for this funkdafied version. Dropping on TSIS , Break Science releases the perfect summer track. Download: Break Science – "Flocyde" Florence and the Machine & The Pharcyde

Today I've got another great track fit for bringing in summer.. It features vocals from Florence and the Machine, and sampled beat from Pharcyde, all mashed and remixed together by Break Science with their added electronic flavor. The upbeat vibe filled with just enough bass is the perfect track to listen to at all times of the day. Having a live drummer and keyboardist just adds a different warmth to the track. Break Science is the electronic group signed to Pretty Lights Music who dropped the free album The Monolith Code . [...]

And we're back! Moved to San Fran, so I had to take a few days off (didn't prepare ahead) . We've got some interesting projects on the way, but until then we'll be throwing out some soulful singles for ya - first up, an ode to graffiti. We featured Piece of Mind about a month back with their ' Rap Phenomenon ' single and now we've got another of their latest. 'Graffiti' starts off with a sample of some old dude who doesn't seem to understand graffiti... typical . Then we [...]

A musical collective with 35 members churning out an album with 41 tracks? Sounds like a logistical nightmare in anyone's book. But as Quakers show, where there's a will there's a way. The latest (and I'd wager largest) hip hop act to roll off the Stone's Throw production line was born out of the frustration of its three producers, who simply weren't hearing the kind of album they wanted to hear. Rather than having a moan about it though, Fuzzface, 7-Stu-7 and Katalyst decided to embark on a rather ambitious journey to make [...]
The once-rare, now easily accessible video from The Pharcyde during their Labcabincalifornia era. As the clip illustrates, this was made for the Street Fighter soundtrack, a now-forgotten, but certainly sort-of awesome collection. Just look at this tracklist . Tracks from Ras Kass, Saafir, Nas, and Cube in their prime. More importantly, " Straight to My Feet, " featuring the timeless union of MC Hammer and Deion Sanders. Not even a Parliament sample can salvage that.
I heard a story about Bushwick Bill, his girlfriend, and insurance money. Apparently he wanted his girl to kill him so either her, his mom, or both of them could inherit some money. I don't know if this is true or not, but what I do know is that he put out some dope tracks. I'll start out this playlist with a song from the Little Big Man himself. Bushwick Bill - Call Me Crazy Mac Dre - Hoez Love It Central Dynasty - [...]
