This year we're having a make over. Ferry Gouw (from Semifinalists) is redesigning everything for us. We'll be having a relaunch in the next few months of the website and all that. Ferry's done some great stuff for us already and we're looking forward to showing it off. Releases this year will be - Banjo or Freakout 12" EP, with four new recording, including blog favourites 'Like You' and 'Upside Down'. In all three of these remixes Phaseone accentuates the vibes already given, adding his soaring synth lines to give the songs an almost transcendental feel, especially in the already powerful "Archangel". There have been all kinds of remixes of Thom Yorke songs floating around since this album dropped almost two and a half years ago. A compilation of several of the remixes was released in Japan this year. It may be old news, but I just thought I would put you on to some of these tracks as they peaked my interest when I saw it. I seriously can't understand why these remixes of "Archangel" have come in so far below the radar, considering the amount of posts that Burial inspired with last year's "Untrue". By all rights, these tunes should be taking over hypem .com. Perhaps it's because Burial revealed his identity earlier this year, making him a lot less interesting to the swarms of blogs that feed off cheap gimmicks like that. I started searching around for these remixes after I heard Annie Mac drop Boy 8 Bit's interpretation alongside Justice, Busy P & DJ [...]
I have heard a couple of sick dubstep remixes this week; one of the timeless Archangel by Burial remixed sensationally by Phaseone (who we don't know much about i'm afraid) who has magically made this track seem even more eery than it was in the first place, adding some stunning synth's and slightly alternate beats. Skills! The second track is from Modeselektor - Happy Birthday! Remixed # 2 [bpitch control - 2008] as is by Rustie. Another wicked remix of again a previous classic track from the Modeselektor boys. So considering that Burial's ( myspace ) album was Mercury Prize nominated this year I guess you'd have to have been hiding in a very dark place to have missed this one. It's a beautiful, beautiful track that really will remain timeless. It's now a year since it's release and PhaseOne ( myspace ) has treated 'Archangel' with the respect it still commands.
