The psychedelic lo-fi duo Phedre released their first, cracked out album over a year ago now and I've been craving more ever since. Their latest, "Zenith," popped up on SoundCloud yesterday and it's about the most dancey thing they've spit out so far. Though not as memorable as "In Decay" or "Aphrodite," I can't say my excitement about this bacchanal band has ebbed in the slightest.

by Tiana Feng You'd think with an upcoming Hooded Fang album Phedre would be put on hold, but nope! Here is a new track from an upcoming album Eterna , which they will be posting tracks of one by one.
Ph èdre is a band I came across in yet another TV show. Ever since hearing "In Decay" its been on non-stop repeat. The band from Monte Carlo, Monaco has a distinctive sound. Their self-titled debut has hints of hip-hop , electroclash , indie dance , and downtempo . I suggest you check out their album. Enjoy!
Favorite Songs of 2012: Part 1 (100-51) You will have to take these list rankings with a grain of salt, because although I tried my best to accurately arrange the tracks, I change it every time I listen to one of the songs. I also only included my favorite song from each artist, so there are no doubles (except for I think one person, but they were part of two different groups). A few songs are also technically from before 2012, but they all appear on albums or [...]

We're in our third week of playing some of our "Best Songs of 20123. You can check Week One and Week Two if you missed them. There's no order to them. Why should there be? You should check them all out and decide for yourself. We'll be listing our favorites all month, and we've continued to do so in today's show. So, here's the playlist from today's My Old Kentucky Blog Radio on SIRIUS XMU , Channel 35! [...]

Full disclosure: I write this from the perspective of a 32 year old. That’s right, a 32 year old at a concert. That guy. Shouldn’t you be married? Or shouldn’t you be working overtime at the office? Shouldn’t you have brought your kid with the industrial ear protection? Yes. Anyway, I look at different things when I go to a concert. In fact I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a concert in that devout save-me-music-gods way since 2006. (That was when I was 26, and even then, I was kind of faking it out of nostalgia). Nowadays I go and analyze [...]

Toronto musicians like to keep busy, so one band often just isn't enough. That's where "side projects" come in or, in other words, just other projects. It's not for us to dub one band more important than the other, but musicians are often recognized for one "main act." With so many familiar faces popping up onstage throughout the city, here's a list of Toronto bands and their side projects just so you don't have to do a double take the next time you check out a local act and have a strange sense of déjà vu. [...]

Six producers worth their salt is a weekly column which features six relevant, up-and-coming, under-exposed, or disruptively innovative musicians in a particular genre-space. Every Friday we’ll put together a list of a half-dozen must-listen artists that are – or we expect to be – making waves in the coming months. Everybody loves pop music. As human beings, we are instinctively drawn to catchy hooks. I can't say I've ever met someone in my life who does not enjoy a good pop song (anyone who says they do not is either lying or an alien). Thus, the [...]

I came for the food and stayed for the music. Summerworks opening party took place at the Great Hall on Thursday night and I basically went because there was free food catered by the Lakeview and I was also hoping to score a few free drink tickets from media/publicity people. Sadly, no free drinks came my way because this was a fund starved theatre festival and not say, SXSW Interactive where someone would probably pour champagne down my throat if I just asked. To curb my disappointment, I headed for the deep fried [...]

µ 2 Evy Jane - Sayso Rhye - Open CITIZENS! - [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive Some might consider Toronto's Phedre a weird band, what with the elaborate costumes and even stranger music videos, but to the experimental trio their brand of electro-pop comes naturally. "What isn't weird?" singer Daniel Lee tells Spinner. "Chicken omelettes? Sex? Blue cheese? Puberty?" In the band's latest video for "Aphrodite," Phedre furthers their unique style by incorporating choreographed dancers draped in yarn, a basement dance party and, naturally, a game of mah-jong with an [...]

by teepoo The most bizarro act prize goes to Hooded Fang , side project Phedre. It's so much different stage presence wise than Hooded Fang. Phedre was quite the spectacle. It was like part brothel, part dance party on stage. Definitely one of the more unique sets I've seen. Oh and here's a new track: Video Gallery
It's Friday, and we're back with another installment of our regular roundup of downloadable MP3 goodness from around the web. This week, there's a new Cat Power track (yay!), a new/old John Maus track (YAY!), a taste the new album from Purity Ring (definite yay!), more Clams Casinos instrumentals, another Peaking Lights mixtape, and a shitload of other tracks that definitely warrant various connotations of the word "yay." In other words, there's plenty of interesting sounds awaiting you after the jump, and since they won’t cost a penny or land you an RIAA lawsuit, as your attorneys we advise you [...]
Phédre Haberdash Weirdo pop is right. So uninhibited, like a slightly less insane Ariel Pink, unaware of their surroundings, Phédre just gives into what they are feeling. Combining clanks and squeaks with a terrifyingly sexy clamor of instruments and beats that could bring some serious heat on their own, then melding the whole mess together through an almost monotone, funk glazed caricature of vocals dreamed up in the Ziggy Stardust era and lead by Phedre frontman, Daniel Lee. This group continues to amaze me. Buy the track and help the band [...]
