Only a few people are brave enough to channel 80s' MOR Rock to conjure up a hit these day, but Gotye is a force to reckon with. The Australian rocker has embarked on a venture to channel the best sounds of The Police, Phil Collins and Mike + The Mechanics and come up with a unique sound for his new album Making Mirrors . This track is the one making most waves. It's a great number with a hint of lyrical nostalgia. It's a stark ballad that teeters between a sombre ode to lost love to a brighter look [...]

It's been quite a while since I've delved in the world of album covers in my ongoing album art lover series, but I was inspired by Sharon Van Etten's sleeve for her brilliant new album, Tramp (which is streaming on NPR today by the way) to explore the ever-popular face cover. They say that 93% of communication is non-verbal, which perhaps explains why the face-cover has endured for so long. You can usually get a good idea of the album you're about to hear by the expression and composition of the [...]

Happy 61st bgay to the PHIL COLLINS . The he-singer was born this way January 30 1951. And his mp3s will soundtrack me walk into the work this AM thnx.

Australian based producer Cosmo Black recently remixed Phil Collin's epic pop ballad "In the Air Tonight." It is a perfect addition to your breezy summer afternoon mix. It is by far the best remix on his soundcloud page . Phil Collins : Official | Cosmo Black : Facebook [ via ] We're going to start things off today with something nice and easy. Easy peasy is what they say. You'll see later on today. Any hoo here goes a remix by Australian Cosmo Black on what I can say is one of the more familiar tunes that played on the radio whenever my mother took Eccentric and I to school in the morning many, many, many years ago. It's a fun re-work and I'll most likely sneak it in my sets from [...]

The night is about to start over here in Stockholm and before I will run out into the night I just wanted to share this brilliant remix. Cosmo Black has made this Phil Collins classic into a new classic! Enjoy your Friday night wherever in the world you are! Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight (Cosmo Black Remix) (320 kbps)
I grew up in London in the 802s therefore it's no surprise I have been known to enjoy a bit of Phil Collins every now and then. This morning I stumbled upon this Cosmo Black remix of his haunting 1985 classic In The Air Tonight remix and it really hits the spot! Who would ever have thought it possible to create such a flawless dance remix out of this track? Certainly not me, but this just works! Cosmo Black gets extra cool points [...]
First off, don't act like Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight" isn't one of the baddest cuts ever. The ominous production. The chilly ire simmering behind Phil's lyrical ache ("Well if you told me you were drowning/ I would not lend a hand..."). The spine-tingling, and deathlessly-mutated "urban legend" that spiraled from it. THOSE DRUMS (and the eternity of tension-filled build-up time it takes to get to that classic explosion of WHAMP-WHAMP WHAMP-WHAMP WHAMP-WHAMP WHAMP-WHAMP WHAMP! WHAMP!). The track, from Collins' 1981 international blockbuster Face Value [...]

First of all i just want to say, i'm not a Phil Collins fan. Believe me it's true! Second of all this remix is amazing. I've been following Cosmo Black for a while and this is my favorite remix he did, so far. It's so well "designed" that i had to blog it. This is not even considered a guilty pleasure, because if it wasn't Phil's vocals, probably we wouldn't easily discover the sample. Don't forget to check Cosmo Black for more remixes. I'm sure you will fall in love for this guy! [...]

Queens big man Action Bronson had a huge 2011 with his no-nonsense flow and Ghostface -like talents on the mic. To ring in the new year, Action B teamed up with Party Supplies on a brand new track entitled "Contemporary Man", a track that includes an endless list of samples ranging from Phil Collins to Charlie Sheen . You can't really go wrong with '802s samples and some good, old-fashioned spitting. Bronson and Party [...]
If you don't know Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, they're this supergroup that played punk versions of non-punk songs - usually songs that you wouldn't ever in a million years consider for punk covers, like "Mandy" and "Don't Cry For Me Argentina." I knew a dude who was way, way into them, but the [...]
Stereogum40 alum Action Bronson kicks off his 2012 with "Contemporary Man," which samples a few '80s radio hits that you just might know. Spoiler alert: SU SU SUDIO! Scott to Gummix . REPEAT: Scott to Gummix. Download the track produced by Party Supplies after the jump. Read More...

I've always preferred Genesis with Peter Gabriel, so I'm not afraid to admit that I've mostly ignored the Phil Collins lead material post 1977. Surprisingly, I finally have been given a reason to pay attention though. Hip-hop legend and Wu-Tang personality Raekwon dropped a new mixtape for New Years titled Unexpected Victory . Its stand out track? A Genesis sampling, Mobb Deep featuring jam tingling with raw, arrogance and 802s infused excellence. Download it here.

Hand [...]

Here's an eye-catching claim : N-Dubz' Fazer is set to work with Phil Collins. "Everyone will be expecting I'm going to work with Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder and Chipmunk, but I want to do something musically credible that opens me up to different markets. "I'm going to work with Phil Collins." To be frank, we'd not really expect Tinie, Tinchy or Chipmunk to be rushing to work with Fazer - why would you trade down like that? But the Collins claim is fascinating. Given that Phil Collins has retired from music . [...]

It would be fair to say Phil Collins' 'I'm Not Moving' has seen enough remixes. Recently it's been sampled by Trickski, who turned it into an impossibly slow-burner; Pitto went the other way, stretching a small vocal snippet into a filtered house banger. This is a more middle-of-the-road affair, like the Idjut Boys edit, Jay Todd's is a jaunty house jam. Thanks go to Sloth Boogie blog for the pointer: Phil Collins - I'm Not Moving (Jay Todd Re-Edit) {wav file} [pelski highly recommends] A similar take [...]
