Coming off the 1st Annual Anniversary yesterday of one of the better Phish shows from 2010, the October 20th show at Utica Memorial Auditorium in upstate NY (the famed "Guyutica" set), we're please to announce we've got a copy of the Phish: Live in Utica 2010 DVD to give away to one of our lucky [...]
Pre-order the new Phish release 'Hampton Winston / Salem 97'
Phish bassist Mike Gordon has sure made the rounds with performers at Higher Ground of late. In addition to his guest spot with the Spin Doctors on Sunday, Cactus sat in with the Jackie Greene band for a gorgeous take on the Grateful Dead classic Sugaree last Tuesday at the Burlington venue. Gordon pays tribute to Phil Lesh's bass part while still adding in a few ridiculous licks of his own. Jackie Greene & Mike Gordon - Sugaree
Our writing conquered the chasm...the rift. The thing we did best and did forever, songwriting, reignited our friendship. -Tom Marshall about "Backwards Down the Number Line" and the story about how Trey and him reunited and brought back that writing period in Trey that spawned the 2009 reunion. I personally found that rather touching. Related [...]
Phish is releasing a 7-CD set on December 6th featuring 11/21-23 from 1997. Cow-funktacular...
Tom Marshall joins Twitter...Phish fans get pumped...
by world's biggest Phish fan BBG
When discussing the Holy Grail of Phish shows stuck inside the band's vault, the Hampton '97 performances and Big Cypress are usually towards the top of most fans' lists. On December 6, Phish fans will finally get to hear the Hampton '97 performances in all their Fred Kevorkian-mastered soundboard glory when JEMP Records puts out Hampton / Winston Salem '97. The wonderful kicker is that the band has attached the severely underrated November 23, 1997 show to this seven-CD set that will also include never-before-heard soundchecks. We came across this [...]

Since Trey has just been gigging with TAB and Phish has just announced a New Year's run at Madison Square Garden , it seems like a good time to check something I've been mulling over for the past year or so: the first big jam of 3.0. [Photo by Dave Vann] It seems like every tour I read comments along the way that say, "Phish is finally back!" but the fact is, they've been on fire from right out of the gate, whether or not you happened [...]

Trey Anastasio & Co. return to NYC this December.

by world's biggest Phish fan BBG Phish at MSG ( more by Ryan Barkan ) I can think of literally thousands (millions?) of things that I'd rather do around New Year's Eve than go to a Phish show. Get kicked in the teeth by a burro. Fall down some stairs. Murdered. But obviously some people (and there are a lot of people) still care deeply for the Vermont jam band that spawned acres (or is it ache-rs?) [...]

What's up kids? I've got a doozy for you all today: a 1.7-hour playlist of songs about space. Why? Just for kicks, and because it gives me an excuse to post this link: www.spacetelescope.org/images/ archive/top100/ Which, if the URL doesn't make it obvious, is a collection of the 100 "best" space telescope pictures, and, I gotta say, there's some great ones, for sure. But anyways, about the music! 18 songs from a wide variety of genres and time periods, all with titles and/or subject matter relating to space. The ILS [...]

With most of us still deciding on the bloodiest, most revealing, and/or most humorous, prize-winning Halloween costume, jam gods Phish are already making plans for New Year's Eve. Following the band's three-night run at New York's Madison Square Garden to close out 2010 , Trey, Page, Mike, and Fish will extend this year's celebration into a four-night extravaganza. The New Years 2012 stint runs from December 28th through the 31st at MSG, and an online ticket request period for each show is underway at the band's website . Tickets for the first three shows are priced [...]

Whenever I tackle a song by The Beatles for Cover Wars, I like to head on over to see what Alan Pollack has to say on the song's topic and the in-depth musical analysis he provides on his website , a must-bookmark site for any Beatles fan or musician. The absolute basics: Released on The White Album, written by George Harrison and Eric Clapton guests on lead guitar. This Cover Wars has been a long-time coming as I have started compiling it at least once in the [...]

When the remnants of Hurricane Irene brought the worst flooding Vermont has seen in nearly a century, Phish and the group's fans rallied around the state by donating time and money to the relief effort. While it took the mainstream media time to wrap their proverbial heads around just how bad the situation was in the Green Mountain State, Phish fans had already spread the word on message boards, Facebook and Twitter that help was needed. Many Vermonters appreciated the help, but not Seven Days staff writer Lauren Ober , who skewered the group's [...]

On Saturday night at Higher Ground , Trey Anastasio and his solo band debuted a song written by Trey and Tom Marshall for which there's been some confusion about the song title. At first, it was thought that the name of the song was Winter Queen before LivePhish.com's official recording labeled the track as Glacier. Yesterday, Glacier was renamed Winterqueen on LivePhish.com bringing us back towards where we started. The reason we mentioned that anecdote is that sometimes Phish or Trey debuts a song with one name [...]
