The weekend has come and gone, and now you're deep into your weekly grind. Never fear, Wobble Wednesday is back with more of your favorite face-melting bass drops to help you make the most of your mundane lifestyle. Today I'll be guiding you along through the many variations of bass music that we see these days, new and old. I wanted to turn the Wobble Wednesday feature into more than just a section for today's dubstep, so I decided it was only right to incorporate some drum & bass as well as an oldies section into the weekly feature. [...]

Time and silence. You'll find neither here. I could hardly talk. Fingerbanger 1 : Lord Echo - Thinking Of You (don lowed) -- This is what an aural orgasm sounds like to me this week, steadily. The Other songs on the release are just as good. Peep it. Fingerbanger 2 : Cascandy - Escapade Escapade (Original Mix) (don lowed) -- "Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct [...]

From October 2009 (includes free download): Photek is a drum and bass artist that was much used in the 1990s as a remixer of more downtempo artists in other genres, particularly following his "HiddenCamera" release. I only really know his work through those remixes. Though Goldie became the first superstar of jungle, the recordings of Rupert Parkes — as Code of Practice, Aquarius, Studio Pressure, the Truper and Sentinel, but most famously as Photek — made him an easy pick for the style's most artistic and intelligent producer. Working his way [...]
It's probably important for me to precede this review by mentioning that I'm not exactly an electronic music aficionado. It's not that I don't like the music as a whole – I loves me some Aphex Twin and I thought Submotion Orchestra's Finest Hour was one of the best albums of last year – but I'm not exactly ingrained in the universe. Case in point – I was unaware of the DJ-Kicks volumes, a long-running series of electronic albums that originated in the mid-90s, each one featuring mixes by a different musician. I also had not heard of [...]

The weeklong Together festival took another step forward with a dizzying week of concerts, parties, workshops and film showings that drew an estimated 20,000 fans to dozens of venues across Boston and Cambridge. With an impressive lineup that included Photek, Dubfire, Nero, Starkey, Poirier and RJD2 (pictured above), to name a few, the festival — now in its third year — forged several new partnerships with top EDM labels that bodes well for the event moving forward. Tastemaking labels !K7 and Ninja Tune threw showcases while Astralwerks used the festival for its New England premier of [...]

Head over to our Facebook page and simply 'like' the flyer to win. Photek stands mercilessly on the edge. A sonic scientist, pushing both his sounds and fans' expectations to the outermost limits since 1994, he floods the footnotes of electronica like MP3s clutter up your hard drive. He was there when Goldie declared it drum & bass but to this day he [...]

Who doesn't like to dance? I mean I do, but with my bad back and all I don't get out as much as I used to. But man, do I love to turn on the Rdio and jam out to some sweet tunes. On most days when I am scrubbing through footage for my regular job I like to go through some of my friends' "heavy rotation." Last week I saw two white guys who appear better looking than me, so I can't help myself and put it on. [...]

Well, here we are once more. As the summer nears, these weeks are growing in popularity for music release dates, chosen by the bands. In about another month or two, we'll be full-steam ahead! This week, we're pleasantly surprised to find a lot of artists we've heard buzzing including one of our favorite band names with a release this week - Bear In Heaven . Honestly, I don't know how these band names are made up, but I love it. Their album name I Love You It's Cool is equally as hip. These guys are [...]

Photek : Official | Facebook | Twitter Check out this lovely Mix by Photek below. Tracklist unknown, for now. I'm not too keen on these tracks but so far from what I've heard expect lots of Acid House. If you notice the mix is only 45 min long. So we might be treated with a B side to this mix in the near future [For the younger kids who never had the opportunity to PURCHASE music on cassettes or even make mix tapes off the radio or a horrible 3rd generation [...]
I've been annoyed by something over the past few weeks, and I've continually debated with myself if it's something I wanted to bring up on this blog. But since I'm posting a video game soundtrack tonight, I figure that's enough of an excuse for me to go on a video game related rant of sorts. Fucking Mass Effect 3 . If you at all follow gaming news, you know what I'm going to talk about now. If not, a quick summary. Mass Effect 3 is a video game made by [...]

With a bucketload of early drum n bass classics and a seminal house album featuring Robert Owens firmly under his belt, Photek disappeared off to work on soundtrack shenanigans in the late 2000s and recently rematerialized with a fresh hunger for bass heavy beats. His recent material has placed him firmly back at the top of his game and his forthcoming Dj Kicks album should cement his reputation further. To get a taster of the mix ahead of its release grab this chunky slab of house goodness courtesy [...]

Photo credit: Oh Dag Yo / Bassrush This was my first time attending a Bassrush event as well as attending an event at the Dim Mak Studios in Hollywood, formerly known as the Cinespace . Bass ically (see what I did there?), I didn't know what to expect, which I felt was a good thing, because it meant that I had no expectations (good or bad) walking in. After spending a good amount of time looking for parking, I finally was able to [...]
