In about 63 hours, I'll be throwin' some 'bows at Ear X-Tacy to make sure I get my hands on every Record Store Day release I need. Of course, "need" is hardly the proper term, but when you're standing there holding the last copy of a Japanese Les Savy Fav import on coke bottle clear and orange swirl vinyl - well, that's when "need" is the right word. With that in mind, here is my list of RSD desirables. In looking through the list, there were some entries I logically knew I [...]

This is the first Old and Jaded, but let's not make a big thing about. So there will be no paragraphs-long explanation about what this will consist of week in and week out. It's freeform. Or as freeform as a weekly column on a snarky, indie music website can be. You know, when described as such, Buzzgrinder could easily be mistaken for Pitchfork. I guess the amount of elitism (read: none) is what separates the two and makes the ol' BG a website I've been visiting for damn near seven years and Pitchfork a website I can't tolerate [...]
A quiet week with the good stuff, but still a lot of releases. The Acacia Strain has a new LP that is supposedly really good. (Anybody?) Daniel Johnston has a new six-disc box set for you collectors. Frontier Ruckus is going to be the next big thing and I knew about them before you did. (Neener neener.) Manowar got together with some other folks to record a tribute to Dio . RIP. Max Richter [...]
It's a sad state of affairs when dressing up like Sir Novelty Fashion or Sir Percy Blakeney makes you look tougher. Also, this video reminds me of the cover for Piebald 's The Rock Revolution Will Not Be Televised . Except the music on that EP was actually, you know, good. Piebald - David Lee Rock

Piebald have been effectively broken up since their final 2008 show in Cambridge, MA. However, the band will be reunited for a set at Bamboozle on May 2 in East Rutherford, NJ. This comes at a time when the band are teaming up with Rise Records to re-release several of their old albums with bonus material and B-sides starting on April 27 with Volume I ( Volume II and Volume III will arrive on May 25th and July 20th, respectively). Details on which albums are getting the re-release treatment are listed after the jump. [...]

Yo 'Why?' I'm real happy for ya and I'ma let you finish..... BUT Tubelord's 'Our First American Friends' is the best late contender for album of the year 2009. Released on 12th October the Kingston (London) quartet's offering showcases angular guitar hooks, vocals which meander effortlessly from harmony to cacophony, and a determination to keep song structures [...]

Today's Cougar pick are a band hailing from Utah, Nevada and Arizona, just in case one state doesn't satisfy you. Shark Speed describe their music as 'progressive' though personally I prefer to go with melodic 'post-punk with pop sensibilities'. Listening to debut album 'Sea Sick Music' it is immediately that these boys are incredibly competent [...]

After talks of the amazingness of feta cheese and debating where to actually do this interview, Aaron Weiss of MewithoutYou and I finally settled into a cozy piece of gravel in between his bus and Kay Kay and the Weathered Underground 's tour bus. Weiss and I then talked about the latest album, the tour and what is happening next with rumors of a hiatus: Bethany, PopWreckoning: So you guys are currently touring behind your fourth album, It's All Crazy, It's All False, It's All a Dream, It's Alright [...]

During my high school years in rural Ohio/Kentucky, I would spend plenty of summer nights driving around on backroads (and I'm talking backroads here) with the windows of my 1988 cherry red Chevrolet S10 4.3 down, blaring some music. And since the last couple of weekends have been spent back home, I've been doing plenty of similar driving - just with a 2002 Ford Focus instead. Needless to say, I came up with a mix for my driving escapades. No stupid themes or concepts. It's getting summery out, so it just needed to be jams I could listen [...]

The PRP is reporting that New England boys Cave In will be making a return to the stage for a July 19 show in Allston, Mass. with Disappearer and Phantom Glue . No word on what lineup will be playing the show, but I would imagine it'll be the one that was in action before Cave In went on hiatus in 2006. Now if only fellow Massachusettsians Piebald would follow suit. If only. Cave [...]

This week, Kyle Kammeyer of Rodeo Ruby Love gets all teary-eyed (and rightfully so) about Piebald . In addition to his duties as guitarist in Rodeo, Kyle also likes to dance in the middle of the street. But who doesn't? Do you ever get that feeling of absolute rage/unsettling jealousy when certain bands enter your head? No, I am not talking about Piebald here (I will be getting to them shortly). I'm merely pointing out the fact that sometimes life just isn't fair [...]
:: A question for the ages: if a tree falls in Justin Timberlake's golf course, will it kill a person ? Or a puppy? :: You can get a ...Trail of Dead track from the upcoming album Isis Unveiled at the Record Store Day site .
