Photographer Leo Townsell and his camera were at the Pierced Arrows / Wooden Indian Burial Ground show at the Doug Fir on Wednesday night, and he sent these amazing photos our way. There's little visually that can do justice to the storm of Fred and Toody Cole kicking out the jams, but Leo has done a fantastic job of capturing it. Click on the photos to see them in their full glory. More after the jump! [...]

PSYCHIC TV, DBC, KING DUDE, VICE DEVICE ( Rotture , 315 SE 3rd) Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (born Neil Megson) has changed a lot over the past four decades—both musically and physically through work with proto-industrial band Throbbing Gristle and psychedelic rock unit Psychic TV, and P-Orridge's pandrogynous morph in honor of late wife Lady Jaye. Genesis is living, breathing art, [...]
At music festivals, more so than normal shows, bands get in competition with the crowds for the crowd’s attention. It’s especially true at big, celebrity-laden affairs like Coachella, where starlets bring a trail of both ... read more

ELVIS COSTELLO AND THE IMPOSTERS ( Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall , 1037 SW Broadway) If it seems like Elvis Costello's been on the road pretty much nonstop these days, it's because he has been. The once-bristly Brit has embraced his status as living legend over the past decade with live dates, television appearances, and as host of his own musical variety show, Spectacle . He's also managed to perpetuate his reign over contemporary songsmiths with a slew of spectrum-spanning LPs with the Imposters. On the Spectacular Spinning Songbook Tour, Costello combines game-show theatrics with a [...]

photos: Ned Lannamann I’m in the will-call line at the Crystal Ballroom, finding myself childishly psyched for this show as though I was a teenager again. There’s been a lot of anticipation for this one, mostly nostalgic reminiscences of the first time someone heard Bug , and acknowledgment that this would have been a pretty badass bill back in 1988. I was only four then, but hey—I can imagine. You’ve got rootsy NW punk rock legends Pierced Arrows , a reunited Scratch Acid (David [...]

If you happen to own a Fender Jazzmaster and a Big Muff distortion pedal, odds are Dinosaur Jr. rank high in your music collection. Touring in support of their 1988 fuzz bomb masterpiece Bug , Dinosaur Jr. were interviewed by fellow SST records labelmate Henry Rollins prior to their performance of Bug in its entirety. While J. Mascis was characteristically soft spoken, Murph and Lou Barlow recanted stories of how they once toured Los Angeles and no one showed up to the show, how they reunited in 2005 and remembered the entire catalog in two days, and [...]
Merry Moondoggies ::: photo by Abbey Simmons I get tired of writing about the same bands all the time. Just as I'm sure you get tired of reading me write about the same bands over and over again. So what do you think I did for this holiday season? I wrote a letter to the North [...]

Day two of Sled Island began auspiciously for me. There weren’t any bands in particular that I was dying to see so I was essentially open to anything. My friend recommended Zola Jesus, so I made my way to Central United Church (the venue I missed getting into on day one). Pierre Laporte was just finishing up when I entered the venue. I couldn’t really get a handle on their music from the one song I heard but the kids seemed to enjoy it. There were a group of guys crowded around the front of the stage, clumsily [...]
