photos: Ned Lannamann I'm in the will-call line at the Crystal Ballroom, finding myself childishly psyched for this show as though I was a teenager again. There's been a lot of anticipation for this one, mostly nostalgic reminiscences of the first time someone heard Bug , and acknowledgment that this would have been a pretty badass bill back in 1988. I was only four then, but hey—I can imagine. You've got rootsy NW punk rock legends Pierced Arrows , a reunited Scratch Acid (David [...]

If you happen to own a Fender Jazzmaster and a Big Muff distortion pedal, odds are Dinosaur Jr. rank high in your music collection. Touring in support of their 1988 fuzz bomb masterpiece Bug , Dinosaur Jr. were interviewed by fellow SST records labelmate Henry Rollins prior to their performance of Bug in its entirety. While J. Mascis was characteristically soft spoken, Murph and Lou Barlow recanted stories of how they once toured Los Angeles and no one showed up to the show, how they reunited in 2005 and remembered the entire catalog in two days, and [...]
Merry Moondoggies ::: photo by Abbey Simmons I get tired of writing about the same bands all the time. Just as I'm sure you get tired of reading me write about the same bands over and over again. So what do you think I did for this holiday season? I wrote a letter to the North [...]

Day two of Sled Island began auspiciously for me. There weren't any bands in particular that I was dying to see so I was essentially open to anything. My friend recommended Zola Jesus, so I made my way to Central United Church (the venue I missed getting into on day one). Pierre Laporte was just finishing up when I entered the venue. I couldn't really get a handle on their music from the one song I heard but the kids seemed to enjoy it. There were a group of guys crowded around the front of the stage, clumsily [...]
Tweet A new direction this is not. It's the same direction Black Lips have been going in for the last few years or so, not that it's a bad thing, but you might think it's false advertising if you take them at their word. If you've been following the band for the last few years then you'll know the spitting, hoarse, gravel-trodden sound they've honed so well, but this time around for their new album "Arabia Mountain" they've enlisted British producer, artist, [...]

![[Watch/Listen] – New Song And Video By Black Lips – "Go Out And Get It"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3254593_lg.jpg)
If this new video by Black Lips doesn't get you craving the warm sun of summer, scantily-clad ladies (or dudes), and ice-cold beverages then you might as well just go into hibernation for the next seven months and enjoy the cold of your hidey-hole. Even though the video's a little reminiscent of Wavves' latest visual atrocity for "King Of Beach", the song fucking delivers like one of those small packages that's more impressive once opened (the groupies of LBYB know what I'm talking about). Whilst the band are usually known for hitting rock on the more sloppy and psychedelic side of town, [...]

Not one, but TWO! brand new songs from Atlanta's garage-punk-rockers Black Lips. Last time around (just over two weeks ago) they released "Before You Judge Me" , their first new song via Adult Swim's eight new songs in eight new weeks thinger. That jam was a lot slower and more melodic than this new one, "Best Napkin I Ever had" is just straight up voice-scratching, guitar-janglin', shit-punk-talking garage rock, fast-pased and come and gone in just 2:34. "Best Napkin I Ever Had" is released on July 6 as a split EP with Oregon garage rockers [...]
![[new] Black Lips – Best Napkin I Ever Had](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2661168_lg.jpg)
Black Lips have released another new single. This time they gave "Best Napkin I Ever Had" to the Scion/AV label for a split single with Orgeon punk rockers Pierced Arrows . It is the second single that we've gotten from the less than calm Atlanta garage rockers this year. We last received "Before You Judge Me" , an Adult Swim released single from them a few weeks ago. "Best Napkin I Ever Had" is a dirty/sweaty garage rocker that does it job. Gotta love those jangly guitars. [mp3]: Black Lips - Best [...]
With the big 4th of July weekend coming up, this week's Friday Mixtape couldn't have come at a better time. Artists must have sensed the upcoming holiday because they released a TON of material, which we then compiled into a handy mixtape for your Independence Day BBQ, soirée, or other form of celebration. Included is a blend of this week's best new singles, remixes, and covers, along with mp3s from some up-and-comers you just might want to check out. Get out those lawn chairs and sparklers America, and while you're at it pop in our mixtape. It's like fireworks, hot [...]
Vice's garage/punk mainstays Black Lips & Pierced Arrows, have a split EP coming up next week (July 6) - one new song from each. It's part of series Scion AV is doing where... **Summary** Go to website for downloads, videos & more.

This new Black Lips jam comes courtesy of the Scion A/V label, and more specifically, from the "Garage" section of the project. A fitting home for the Atlanta, Georgia rockers, whose limited edition split 73 with Pierced Arrows will be released July 6th. And "Best Napkin I Ever Had" is a classic Black Lips track, surf guitar backed by crazy vocals and percussion crashes, creating a garage rock anthem that will definitely appeal to fans of their past work. No disappointment here, just a solid track to tide you over until their next proper LP. MP3 : Black Lips [...]
