(Vote for "M4M Idol" ! You've got 'til Oct. 6.) It's a "Two-For-Tuesday"! On Wednesday! Here are two absolutely spellbinding albums by French composer Pierre Bastien , who, since childhood, has been fascinated with the idea of incorporating machines into music. His first experiment was with a spoon attached to a metronome striking a pan. Since then he has come far indeed, e.g.: brilliantly incorporating (non-hip hop) turntables on his "Mecanoid" album. Over the repetitious rhythms of his machines he often blows cool Miles-like jazz horn. The results, on his [...]

While I prolong the self-important masochism of finalising LMYE's '20 artists of 2009' list (a companion to our ' 20 labels of 2009 ' & an attempt to engage with the year's music a bit differently than picking our best albums of the year, which many others already do exceptionally well...) on further into the new year, here's 10 sites that added to the joy of music discovery last year. 10 plus one, that is, plus others needing a mention. Blogs, like this one, that mostly traffic in commercial releases are excluded. [...]
Pascal Comelade - Pierre Bastien - Jac Berrocal - Jaki Liebezeit - Rock'n'Roll Station Oblique Sessions Posted in noise
There's an indestructable bond between music and cinema which we at undomondo constantly talk about, yet the excitement of a new Pierre Bastien is never ordinary. Bastien might be the world's quirkiest tinkerer with an army of mechanic robots whirring and whizzing to create an authentic sonic scent. His newest work, a collection of pieces which he composed for filmmaker Karel Doing is released with the apt title "Visions of Doing" on Western Vinyl also home to Balmorhea , Bexar Bexar and Slow Six . Once again his [...]

well this is quite the line-up. quite the choice selection of cured meats and smoked cheeses indeed. all the noise, danish wind instruments, distortion, electronickery, kosmische musik and occasional folkiness you can shake a big bloody black-clad stick at. following all tomorrows parties slow descent into some incestuous groundhog day love-in (the portishead one excepted) and the apparent [...]

Scotland's tremendous Triptych Festival has announced its line-up for 2007. To be held between April 25th and 29th in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, solo performances by Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite and former Arab Strap frontman Aiden Moffat have already been booked. The line-up isn't as good as last year (Aphex Twin, Mogwai etc), on initial impressions anyway. But I am most certainly looking forward to performances by Pierre Bastien and his robotic orchestra , David Pajo and Alexander Tucker . And, as ever, there will be more than a few hidden [...]
Here's the second part of the list, this time a little bit more with folk and avantgarde influences. Pierre bastien - Deuxieme Teleconcert Moderato Pierre Bastien is a wonderful musician. His robotic orchestra and his compositional ability is almost superhuman. In a time where everything is electronic, taking the hard way and creating an unmatched soundscape using mechanics does once again display that technology is only a means to create, and it's the synergy between the musician and his instrument that counts. [...]
