The house was really cold when I woke up this morning, 60° cold. I turned up the heat and nothing happened. I cursed a bit then decided to check the red on/off switch: it was on. I next checked the thermostat, and it was off. Glory be, no repairman needed! I turned the switch to heat and the furnace responded. The house got warmer than outside. I know radiators aren't the most attractive decorations for a house, but when I was a kid, I always took comfort from the hissing of the steam as the water coursed through [...]

It's official. The lineup is all set, the flyer is here, now we just need you. The show will go down March 14 from 3 to 11 at Uncorked. Details above. Listen to music from some of the artists below, and make sure you read this before you head out to SXSW or any other festival this year.

It is kind of like the pigeon version of a candy necklace. afternoonsnoozebutton : nickholmes : Deal with it. Please excuse my dope ass pigeon swag

We've been a little slow on the music posts this past week as we prepare to release some new wares for you Handsome people. To make up for it we've compiled some of the songs that have been feeding our work sessions. Essentially, these all can be considered songs with deep vibes; perfect for getting cerebral. First up, we have Virtual Boy , a two-piece experimental electronic music group based in Los Angeles, CA. They've taken "Skin" by our recent favorite female artist, Grimes, and created an ethereal soundscape to compliment her delicate vocals. Download [...]
Atmospheric folk intro led sauntering indie supplies this South London quintet with a delving, mildly mystical and hearty opener, 'Pigeon' to an explorative debut EP. Myles McCabe's achingly rising Chris Wall (Air Traffic) veined vocals bounces off the controlled percussion clatter of Josh Taffle to give an endearing, lost impression, as they hit out at spiteful people. Soothing, cooing backing and a subtle acoustic rumble, has the epic 'Sweat' leaving an aching, coarse and heart-wrenching echo. 'Tooth and Nail', builds up a bristling sonic vibe from a roving key-led base before harmonic backing vocals gives the foraging effort [...]
If you look past the swirling colors, this Camilla Padgitt-Coles -directed video for NYC folk-rock outfit Pigeons reveals a dancer pirouetting in slow motion. The song, the latest single from the band's recent They Sweetheartstammers LP on Soft Abuse , feels kind of like an extended pirouette, too. A long, buzzing drone lays the foundation for a cyclical vocal mantra from founding member Wednesday Knudson, as haunting and deceptively aimless as Nico's notorious cover of the "End" (a personal favorite). Put this one on when you won't have to go anywhere for a while. [...]

First of all, I want to thank Based God. The Recommender has done their yearly Best Music Blogs post, in which they get music blogs to vote on their favorite music blogs. Blogs on blogs on blogs, or something. It's becoming like the Grammys for music blogs, except slightly less pretentious, because most bloggers have deflated egos and low senses of self-worth (excluding hip-hop bloggers-they love themselves). For the second year in a row, Pigeons & Planes has come in at number 2. Just wanted to take this chance to brag, but then, [...]

Our first letter this month is from a lovely lady telling us about Gonjasufi 's new mini album MU.ZZ.LE. She says: "MU.ZZ.LE although short in length, is huge on messages: political, social and spiritual interpretations that define Gonjasufi as an artist." Oh Christ. Next. Our friends at Kitsuné have written to tell us that: "The 12th edition of Kitsuné Maison compilation is out NOW!" We assume because the NOW is in caps this is very important [...]

With the holidays coming up, we thought this would be a nice gesture. If you're like me (then you're weird), you probably don't like to go "shopping" because it requires "interaction" with other "people." Lines, waiting, crowds-it's all terribly exhausting. Boom. The internet. Gifts for others? Internet. Shameless discounted purchases for self? Internet. Drunk at 4AM on a Saturday night and decide you really need a pair of winter boots? Yup, internet. Karmaloop 's got everything from boots to sweaters to socks to watches . Also thongs . Dozens of [...]

Hollow Pigeons - You(th) It's kind of ironic that this EP is named Birthdays, seeing as how Ryan Dela Cruz has had so few. He's a 15 year old Canadian who's actual young-at-heartedness bleeds it's way into his production, with the grace and guilelessness only someone so young could manage. Birthdays flows soft and lightly from start to finish, bringing us what can only be an impressive start to a hopefully long life of blissful production. Go grab the Birthdays [...]

by teepoo It feels like not too long ago that I introduced you to the 15 year old known as Hollow Pigeons but he's out with another EP titled Birthdays . It's another must have grab from Bandcamp . I love that at this young age he's producing original and thoughtful experimental music and not some lame remixing. My favourite of the set is More Affection as he plays with vocal mixing and does it quite well. Hollow Pigeons- More [...]
It's just not fair that there's this much to do on a Monday: ► Yelle make up the Thursday show the French dance-pop trio postponed (they were delayed by visa problems) by holding forth at the Wiltern tonight. ► Races celebrate the release of their "Big Broom" EP tonight, playing the support slot for Chain Gang of 19742s residency at the Echo, The night kicks off with O.C.'s Polaris at Noon. ► Didn't think the first week of Vanaprasta's was explosive enough? (You're in the minority.) [...]

Soft Abuse has made available "Chances", another gem from Pigeons ' brand new full-length They Sweetheartstammers , a piece of gently muffled psych rock that sees singer/guitarist Wednesday Knudsen's usually clear and sweet voice manipulated to come off subdued and rather restrained, perfectly matching the overall foggy late night atmosphere of the track. Get They Sweetheartstammers now over here . Pigeons - Chances

There are tons of music blogs around the Internet these days, and it is hard to really find a solid audience. I know first hand as I created one at a time where tons of music blogs already existed. Yet, one blog that was an inspiration for my decision to create one has found a huge following. Many of you may check out Pigeons & Planes , and if you don't you probably should. Although the site has a big focus on hip hop and indie, it's the writing and passion that makes you feel like you are having [...]

Bronx, NY folk-rock unit Pigeons concoct dark, kaleidoscopic soundscapes populated by loose pop structures and abstract dissonance, shades of wintry stillness, and a hauntological layer of dust. Recently, they expanded their line-up to include acoustic noodlers from the No-Neck Blues Band and Black Twig Pickers , and got to work on their third full-length. They Sweetheartstammers , out next week on Soft Abuse , is packed with hypnotic psychedelia, Francophilia, cobweb-laden sonic spaces, and shadowy retrofuturism, balancing moods of wonder and foreboding with an artisan's acumen. The founding power duo of partners Clark Griffin and Wednesday Knudsen took some time via email to [...]
by teepoo I have to admit when Hollow Pigeons e-mailed me, I overlooked it for a while because he introduced himself as simply a 15 year old electronic artist and I was quite skeptic. When I finally listened to his 5 song EP, I was pleasantly surprised. His ambient style shows a quiet mature sound as he plays around with tension and release. My favourite example from the set is probably Spoiled Little LA Girl which has hints of electronic playfulness. The 5 song EP can be grabbed free here at Bandcamp [...]
