Woohoo! My dude Pill got with Court Dunn to do the visuals for "Hear Somebody Comin" as a part of the One Shot Series with NahRight . While Pill Cousy dishes lyrical paranoia, the talented Mr. Dunn managed to produce a treatment that's impactful and unique as always. Alfred Hitchcock would be proud @ the suspense management done by both parties.
Directed by Court Dunn. This is kinda cool! [ Nah Right via 2dbz ]

Along with the recommendations found here , DJ Whoo Kid and XXL have consolidated the year's top Freshmen onto one mix tape to give the uninitiated a crash course in one sitting. It's Big Sean, Donnis, Fashawn, Freddie Gibbs, J. Cole, Jay Rock, Nipsey Hussle, OJ Da Juiceman, Pill and Wiz Khalifa all competing for your headphone time. Will one of them make a new believer out of you? Download away and find out. And if you're looking to find out in person, I'm sure you'll find a handful of [...]

Despite some questionable judgment displayed in their 2010 Freshman list (best summed up in two letters, O and J), XXL's list never fails to get people talking and to put some shine on artists that are up and coming. Here's a mixtape they put together featuring the artists that made the list. Click read more for information, tracklist, and a download link to get the tape. March madness continues. Last Monday (March 1) XXLMag.com unveiled the cover for our April 2010 issue, featuring XXL's new Freshman Class. Today [...]

The mixtape is finally here for the 10 freshmen of 2010 and for the most part it is really dope. While I am completely never listening to the OJ songs after the first listen it does have some serious gems on the tape. DJ Whoo Kid is a good DJ but when he messes up Wiz's name it was kind of funny, especially since right after he says it, Wiz goes Khalifa mann. But the artists that really stood out from the rest for me were Fashawn and J. Cole but that isn't much of a surprise, they are the [...]

So I've been thinking about doing a new feature showcasing the best of the best of mixtapes. This is the first one featuring tracks that popped up last February either on mixtapes or freestyles or what have you. I may not do a full fledged writeup on everything and I am debating on making this a monthly or weekly thing. I don't think there's enough quality material for a weekly post. I will not be posting leaks or album tracks howeve unless they are remixes. Also a billion mixtapes come out every month so I'm just trying to post some [...]

If you follow Pill on Twitter, you know the guy has a preoccupation with food. So it's comical that he starts his verse here with a culinary reference. But that's where the jokes stop because the rest of the track is business between him and Chi-town's Bogus Boys . Off Maja & FSD's The Breakout , which should be around the corner. Back in January, Motion Family documented what could safely be called the party of the year
If this is your first time seeing any of the artists mention, on behalf on the rest of the TSS Crew , I'd like to give you all a warm welcome to The Smoking Section as every last one of these rooks have been featured heavily on the site. None of these rappers are actually "new" or "freshman" in the traditional sense. Now before any of you knowitalls try to pick apart the list on who should be added or omitted, look on the bright side. As our culture's most visible platform, XXL [...]
This is the future of hip hop? Let's take a look at these kids for a second.. (I always hate this annual issue of XXL) . J.COLE. Not bad. This is Jay-Z's new talent. Jay-Z has a knack for scouting talent.. VERDICT: PASS PILL = Southern rap I can knock.. but overall, not really anything special or new.. generic at best. But not terrible.. I couldn't find [...]
