Photography by me ! I'd like to tell you a little story... A semi-tragic love story, if you will, between myself & a little mobile phone service provider named Sprint . It's a long story, so how about we start up the tunes now, let you settle in, and snuggle up for a, hopefully, good read. Push play and let's begin our story as... TSURURADIO Presents... Baby, Don't Forget My Number!!! The Story & Mixtape Of The Trials & [...]

...and all in a day! With that much travelling, it could well be that you see strange things... like a giant pink crab singing German 70s-hit Dschingis Khan in Finnish! Well, actually that is just what I saw last night. Don't fear, I haven't gone completely bonkers... I've just been to a concert by that world-famous Finnish party-band Leningrad Cowboys ! Although the concert was a bit on the short side, we had a great time, and it still is amazing how these guys easily switch from [...]
pilot speed - light you up [i've been at the toronto film festival for the past few days and in front of every movie is this song. and what a gorgeous epic song it is! love it!] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld
We didn't make a real big deal about it this week, but the blog turned one year old Tuesday. Our first post was Sept. 1, 2008 on this web site (not counting a brief aborted start on Blogger, who deleted those posts, which explains why we moved to our own site). It's been fun but also a job to keep up with all the new music coming out. Which is why it seems natural to have a celebration over Labor Day weekend. [...]

We like to play a free association game with songs, sometimes. Especially, when you need a wacky weekend mix in a hurry. The game goes like this. Name a recent track and have your friend name one with a word association by either artist or title off the top of their head. You each get five seconds to come up with one. If the assocation is judged too vague or you take too long, you lose. The game is more fun when you're drunk, like when we made this list. [...]

Monday night I headed out to Uncle Pleasant's to catch a rather unique show. Here at Backseat Sandbar we don't often attend shows of bands like Thriving Ivory unless there are exceptional circumstances. In this case one of my favorite musicians, Sam Bradley, was making his Louisville debut as one of the opening acts, so it was obligatory that I go. I won't spend much time talking about the headlining band and will only pause to say that they were actually worse than I expected. I think my eardrums may have bled a little. On a more positive [...]

The first show to take place on the new patio of the Beaumont Club was the lovely titled "Red, White and Blow It Out Your Ass", a free show from 96.5 the Buzz in response to the local pop station's annual fest. Beaumont patio actually turned out to be a better venue than the inside of the club. Despite the warm weather, a light breeze made it feel cooler and the unevenness of the ground made it so nearly everybody could see the stage...a major contrast from the inside. Canada's Pilot [...]

It's probably been five years (or more) in between Pilot Speed /Pilate records after skipping, Sell Control For Life's Speed/Into The West. Their debut album, Caught by the Window was an excellent album from top to bottom, channelling a dark and deep emotion. It truly was a depressing and gloomy album but one that was well done. One of the strong points for Pilot Speed was Todd Clark's vocals. Channeling (need clarification on this word, getting contradictory spell checks) Thom Yorek of Radiohead, he was a bright spot to the band's light sound. Bands like [...]

A new find for me today, Pilot Speed, from Canada. I saw this video (below) and really liked their sound. They have a new album out and are on tour at the moment. I have included some sample MP3's off their new album, Wooden Bones. Here's some info from Wiki: Pilot Speed (formerly known as Pilate) is a Canadian rock band that formed in 1999 in Toronto, Ontario. The quartet's debut EP, For All That's Given, Wasted, was released in 2001 which gathered attention from MapleMusic Recordings who later signed them. Their three full [...]

Pilot Speed is a band that we're running late on posting about, but now is a great time as they'll be stopping through Austin on Tuesday. The Canadian act is currently touring in support of their brand new LP Wooden Bones ( Windup Records ) which has been receiving some quiet buzz around the blogging world. Check out this single "Put the Phone Down" and if you likes, head over to Emo's on Tuesday to catch the Pilot Speed live show. Jeff Hanson is headlining that one. Download: Pilot Speed [...]

[Happy birthday to Jason LaRocca of the local punk outfit the Briggs . Here's where to rock out tonight:] Busy, busy night, from the big spaces to the big rooms and on down. That highly anticipated Nine Inch Nails / Jane's Addiction tour hits the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, and also under the evening skies is the second night of the Allman / Doobie brothers at the Greek Theatre. ... My favorites for the evening: M83 and James Yuill visit the Glass [...]

Photography by Tsuru Prints available here Happy Monday to you, my friends! How was your weekend? Mine? Well thanks for asking... it was jim-fucking-dandy! Saturday was the AGORA Art Show and Festival , I had a piece in the show & volunteered for a few hours, and Baby had a booth selling her amazing designs , lots of great art, designs, music (more on that later this week), and, of course, food! We were there all day and had one hell of a time. [...]

Tonight's tune continues with my recent theme of focusing on Canadian artists. There is so much gold coming from the great white north right now it is ridiculous. Put the Phone Down comes to us from the Toronto, Ontario indie/alt-rock band Pilot Speed , and their 3rd full-length release Wooden Bones . The album was officially released on April 28th, 2009 and can be found on iTunes here . The offical video for Put the Phone Down was premiered via YouTube 5 days earlier on April 23rd, 2009. [...]

Toronto's own Pilot Speed released Wooden Bones about two weeks ago, on April 28th. They've got the entire thing up for streaming, and I think you should check it out . 1. Put The Phone Down (mp3) ( amazon ) ( iTunes ) 2. Light You Up 3. Bluff 4. Ain't No Life 5. Up On the Bridge 6. Where Does It Begin 7. What Is Real, What Is Doubt 8. Today I Feel Sure 9. Midnight Fires 10. Wooden [...]
Wooden Bones, the latest album from Toronto's Pilot Speed, has finally received a full release. The record is the fourth from the quartet who first achieved success in Canada under the name Pilate.Things have certainly toned down since their days as Pilate. The band is backing away from their attempts to sound like The Bends-era Radiohead. Instead, Wooden Bones sees them carving out their own

Lots of new releases this week, but none that I'm particularly excited about. Though, I am a little intrigued with A Camp , a collaboration between Nina Persson of The Cardigans , and Niclas Frisk. At this point, I will pretty much listen to anything Persson is involved with. Some other notable releases include Bob Dylan's Together Through Life (his 46th album!), Thee Oh Sees' Help , Immaculate Machine's High , Still Flyin's Never Gonna Touch The Ground , and Japandroids' [...]
