London indie (sm)art/pop upstarts Professor Penguin have had their new charmingly askew single (and free download ) "Pilot" described by none other than Brian Eno as "such a beautiful piece" and, upon listening, who could disagree? What began as the vehicle for singer and songwriter Jonny Abraham has been expanded into a sophisticated outfit (complete with colorful horn shadings) that wanders confidently through odd jazz timings, squiggly-to-droning electronics, jangly melodies akimbo and Abraham's distinctive, matter-of-fact vocal style. We can't help but think of Charlie Fink's Noah and the Whale (yes, a good thing) [...]

Tweet Oh, man, I'm in a swither. I can't decide what I'm most excited about: a new track, from SolarSolar ? Or the official announcement of an album release date? That would be the 21st of February next year, by the way - roughly two-and-a-half months later than I'd ideally prefer, but hey. It will be titled "Pilot" , released by Binary Records , and brilliant (that last part is conjecture, but I [...]
You might remember SolarSolar from way back in August , when they released their way-cool video for their way-cool track "I Can't Find You." At the time, the Waterloo-based couple only had a modest handful of tracks released and scattered onto the internet, and information about the two was even more scarce. Several months later, info is still just as scarce, but a whole record's worth of new material is about to see the light of day as the band prepares to release their first proper full-length album early next year. Pilot won't be [...]

Young band Professor Penguin have got a sound that caught my ear. They're compared to the sounds of Bombay Bicycle Club, Bon Iver & Fleet Foxes, now if that doesn't get your expectation high I don't know what will. I do like the original with it's indie pop electronic style but 'Wrigglesworth PSB Edit' is just minimal perfection. The single with remixes is out now for free! Just head over to their website to download it now. Professor Penguin - Pilot (Wrigglesworth PSB Edit) [...]
New Wave before New Wave had really solidified. Sort of like Springsteen, but sort of not. Perhaps it's most accurately described as an offering to bridge the Billy Joel-ers and the Rundgren-ites, a union which sounds fairly unappetizing. Big noses, effeminate hair, and lots of bland pontificating in obnoxious Long Island accents. I don't much

NBC has ordered a pilot of Bryan Fuller's remake of the classic TV show The Munsters. The new version of the half-hour sitcom is bring re-imagined by the Pushing Daises creator as an hour-long series exploring how the monster house came about, and will have a darker and less campy feel than the black-and-white original. The Munsters was launched the same year as the rather similar Addams Family.
Passenger & Pilot, Trainwreck Riders & Whiskerman pull into the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco.

Professor Penguin call themselves a collective. They have a cast of six that rises to nine at times. And they take after another band with a completely daft name, Bombay Bicycle Club. BBC have defied what was expected of them around 2006 when they appeared on the landfill indie scene [Read more]

Two remixes and a new track comprise A Lazurus Soul's new, free EP Dublin Gold Exchange. Harmless Noise pointed out yesterday that the three-track release went up over the weekend to little fanfare, which is in keeping with the band's career to date. They've never really gained the heights they [Read more]

Banner Pilot has re-released their 2006 debut EP, Pass the Poison , on a limited edition cassette tape. The tape was released by Toronto, Ontario's Hosehead Records and just 100 copies are available here for cassette, recycling and/or low-fi aficionados everywhere. The band just released Heart Beats Pacific on digital, CD and vinyl, but Fat Wreck Chords has not announced any plans for cassette or wax cylinder editions.

Pilot : Canada [ purchase ] Look out California Ooh-Ooh, I gotta warn you Here comes Canada So maybe it wasn't the smartest commercial move trying to pit The Golden State against The Great White North, but the Scottish trio Pilot ( best know for their Top 5 hit "Magic") just couldn't help themselves. They named their third album, Morin Heights, after the tourist town in Quebec where they recorded with Roy Thomas Baker. With generous measures of Beatlesque melodies and Queen-like harmonies, Morin Heights has [...]
