Our local Denver scene is growing and busting at the seams. The UMS has been running the four day marathon for a couple of years now, and it amazes me that our scene is able to sustain that amount of time and venues. Granted, a certain percentage of the acts are national ones, however, we live at a present time when our local acts are nearly overshadowing the national ones. I started my Saturday at the well-adorned Illiterate Gallery for an early performance from duo, Piña Chulada . Their rhythmic performance [...]

It's with extreme pleasure that in collaboration with Analog Space , Bocumast , Meadowlark , Flobots.Org, Larimer Lounge and Twist & Shout that we announce the Denver AfterDark Music Festival. The late summer music festival will be a block party on 2700 Larimer where four stages will converge to bring to light music that we're vibing that represents the spectacular local music aesthetic. Most importantly, save the date (August 26th) and come with an empty stomach because there will food trucks in the vicinity to feed the hungry bellies [...]

I'm starting to come down from my Thanksgiving food haze (I had two separate turkey days - one Thursday and one Saturday), and everything is starting come back into focus. The best way... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
It's times like these there would be nothing better than to head to the airport, destination unknown and a twitter-block on #irisheconomy. Maybe we can't escape our country's fiscal woes but we can take you away for an hour, and seeing as it's tough times it's all free. Joining us this week we have Theophilus London (featuring Solagne Knowles ), Po Po , Pina Chulada , Dels (featuring Ghostpoet ), Coma Cinema , Mutual Benefit , The New Division , Phaseone , Fishing , [...]

Jake from Speaker Snacks reps the Colorado scene pretty hard, and he recently sent over a band that’s made it’s way around the blogosphere, but have some new stuff on it’s way. Word is, Pina Chulada may be putting out a 7” soon - maybe even on Transparent of all people. This new song Appropriate Stanger comes in two varieties - a ghostly produced electro-lag version, and a scaled down “living-room” version. Both equally as encapsulating, yet just different enough to appreciate separately. [...]

Can you hear some serious St. Vincent vocals on here? I got that sense when listening to Pina Chulada , but this Denver band is more pop, more electronic, a little dreamy. I can't get over the two versions of this track 'Appropriate Strangers' the stripped down version is absolutely gorgeous. Special thanks to Speaker Snacks for sending this my way. I can't wait to hear more from these guys. Pina Chulada- Appropriate Stranger Pina Chulada- Appropriate Stranger

Not even a week into the New Year and the dudes at Transparen t are already killing it in the world of 73 singles. Their latest lil piece of wax euphoria comes in the form of Active Child . Some seriously dreamy pop gems with distant vocals that are still strong enough not to get lost in the background. Plus, some of our faves, Pina Chulada and Summer Camp , have already remixed the track in mind, "She Was a Vision". Big thanks to Jack and Sahil for setting my inbox on fire with these [...]
Oui, restons à Denver... Let's stay in Denver... http://www.myspace.com/pinachu lada

Both spooky and magnetic, vulnerable and mechanic, Pina Chulada 's heaven-hailing, parallel dimension club-hymn "What You Mean" exorcises the spirits of all the beautiful R'N'B martyrs - real and imagined - at once in a wonderful, sludgy slow-mo seance that sees a deepest sleep-awoken, detached but still glossy and soulful vocal sprinkled into the midst of a sparse, synth-sketched darkland like one universal life-affirming dream descending on a whole wasted world in slumber so that it wakes with a new love in its heart and a new gospel to sing. Keep it locked for [...]

I was already talking about chilled beach beverages earlier this week , so it must be fate that I discover the delicious gems of Pina Chulada . Actually, their already hot "buds" from Denver, Weed Diamond , tweeted up and made me keen to these guys. For the time being, PC only have a few tunes streaming on their Myspace but they are already in the process of recording some jams for the future. Lucky for me (and you if you're reading this), they sent over "What You Mean" [...]
