In case the overwhelming lack of lounging around time hasn't tipped you off, festival season is upon us, in a big way. And last week, our former festival-that-could known as Austin City Limits revealed it's now two-week spanning lineup, full of up-and-comers and big-namers to boot. (Did I meet my dash quota in that sentence – I'm not sure). This year's lineup, while polarizing to many, boasts some of my favorites, from some Columbia grads who made it big (Vampire Weekend), to a fiery-haired musical heroine (Neko Case), to the band that shaped my college years (Wilco), to [...]

by Bill Pearis (via @ SoundbitesNYC Instagram) Pinback are never too far from my thoughts. Mainly because their billboard for new album, Information Retrieved , which the erected for the "Proceed to Memory" time-lapse video , is at the end of my block in Williamsburg and I pass by it every day. Pinback won't be too from you either, most likely, as they'll be on an extensive North [...]

Craig Kief Spring is only barely here - the past few days' weather notwithstanding - but the concert announcement machine is already making eyes at Autumn with the unveiling of a couple of pretty high profile tours coming through town when the leaves start to change and the days get shorter. Sam Beam, the walking epitome of bearded folk music, released Ghost On Ghost - his fifth album as Iron & Wine - last month, but until now only had Spring dates in the northeast and Europe confirmed [...]

Kepler, one of the many office pets who frequent and occasionally staff KEXP Today is National Pet Day ! While you probably don't need a lot of reminders to appreciate that furried, feathered or finned one in your life, who might right now be curled up beside you, romping around your yard or sitting eagerly waiting for food. Pets demand attention, but not all creatures are so lucky. National Pet Day is a time not only to "celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives" but also to "create public awareness about the plight of [...]

Photos by Ethan Feuer Opened by a first act that could only be described as wildly unconventional, Pinback drew a heavy crowd to Music Hall of Williamsburg for their only New York stop this tour. For this, Rob Crow & Co. were rewarded handsomely in applause, more or less from the moment they took the stage. Then, Crow proceeded to give the perhaps more-than-normally soused St. Patty's crowd a metaphorical nod by pouring himself a cup of Jameson before opening the set. From there, Pinback proceeded to [...]

San Diego indie rockers Pinback, who find themselves in the midst of a tour, will visit Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday. Hopefully there are no rare, vintage guitars smashed during the performance (ahem Prince ahem). Other late night highlights this week include Garbage on David Letterman (Tuesday) and Gary Clark Jr. on Leno on Thursday - the Austin guitarist was so good last October they invited him back. Monday, March 18 [All Times ET] David Gilmour: Remeber That Night [AXS 4:10PM] [...]

photo by Dave Lichterman ( view set ) With their ridiculous number of side projects and other interests, it's amazing that songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Rob Crow and Armistead Burwell Smith IV continue to make killer albums together as Pinback . As ever, on Information Retrieved , their fifth LP, the San Diego duo expertly craft their signature multilayered sound of interlocking guitar and bass lines and precise vocal exchanges, as they tread the line between calculated structure and organic form like nobody else. In fact, it's so hard to describe Pinback to your friends [...]
