One of my favorite robot-and-comic-loving bands, Pinback , is paired up with carefree solo project of Spencer Seim ( Hella , The Advantage ), sBach , for a lovely night in Louisville at Headliners tomorrow. I've been a big fan of Pinback for a while now, and Autumn of the Seraphs was one of my top albums of last year, so I'm really looking forward to seeing them for the first time. Pinback - From Nothing to Nowhere Pinback - [...]

Pinback plays tomorrow night at Headliners for a scant $15. Unfortunately, I can't make it, because I'm working on Durang/Durang at the Kentucky Center. So, y'all be my eyes and ears, i'ite? Thankfully, I got a chance to talk with Rob Crow (half of Pinback, curator of all things comic, Robot carrier, musician extrordinaire) for the LEO a couple weeks ago. Cuz the LEO asked me to do it, I can't post the interview here, but I'm linking it up for you and leaving you some tasty Pinback tracks as well. Should be a great show. Tear. [...]

A story on the AP newswire early last week detailed the rash of road sign thefts along the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway, which alone probably wouldn't be worth noting except for the fact that all of the thefts have involved the metal signs at mile marker 66.6. What does this mean? Most likely, it's just some metalhead in New Jersey eager to outfit his bedroom with a series of "6663 road signs. NJ Turnpike Authority spokesman Joe Orlando, however, seems to imagine a darker figure behind the swipings, saying, "Given the symbolism of [...]

We went to see one of our all-time favorite bands on Tuesday! Pinback are more known for their synchronized guitar plucking and West Coast style of experimental mellow music than they are for being a performance savvy band, and Tuesday night's show in downtown Philadelphia at the TLA on South Street showed just that, and held a few surprises as well. The show began with Rob Crow introducing himself to the crowd and painfully announcing that Terrin Durfey, the band's keyboardist, would not be available to play due to his cancer resurfacing. Durfey has been battling cancer for [...]

Tonight in Baltimore don't miss a great show at The Talking Head with Noble Lake, The Antlers, and Small Sur. Down in DC Pinback and sBach play the Black Cat . Finally in Philly Ratatat, Panther, and Erock at the Starlight Ballroom would be the obvious choice, but you could also check The Rocket Summer with Phantom Planet, The Secret Handshake, and The Morning Light at the Fillmore at the TLA or Jenny Lewis at the Keswick Theater. mp3: Pinback - B mp3: Ratatat - [...]

Tonight in DC don't miss Stereolab, Atlas Sound, and Chessie Club at the 9:30 Club . Also in DC are Dressy Bessy, Squaaks, and Hot Lava at the Black Cat . UP north in Philly there's a good amount of sweet shows around. First up is The Juan MacLean, Holy Ghost, and BitClipr at Johnny Brenda's. Over at the North Star Bar is Glasvegas, The Cobbs, and DJ Joey Sweeny. The Barbary has the honor of hosting Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and finally the Fillmore at the TLA has Pinback with [...]

Pinback unloaded their finely-tuned stage show upon a sold-out Music Hall of Williamsburg on Saturday to prove that one of indie rock's biggest comic geeks (Rob Crow) may have finally morphed into a larger-than-life alter ego himself: ROADMAN. Master of the touring lifestyle, practitioner of engaging stage banter, controller of the visual spectrum with a push of the button, the ROADMAN cometh and put on one hell of a show. Time was a Pinback show was a bit of a gamble; you never knew whether Crow and Armistead Burwell Smith IV's vocals would be "on" and [...]

Pinback...sits. (Drew Reynolds) Pinback, Kylesa, The Loft Septermber 18, 2008 Better than: Standing behind a guy with a huge head who sways from side to side so that you can't see the band. My foot was drawn back to kick him (ill-advisedly) in the back of the knee, when the guy on my left shifted and I ducked past both. The audience that had fled from the noise and emphatic head bobbing of the opening metal act, Kylesa , quickly stubbed out their cigarettes [...]

Pinback 's last year Autumn of the Seraphans was really awesome for me, with a lot of great hooks and memorable riffs. Anyway, what better way to promote the album then an autumn tour? No pun intended, of course. The tour kicks off tonight, in Dallas, and is set to keep the band all busy the whole months of September and October. Joining Pinback on stage, during the curse of the tour, will be Kylesa, sBach (aka Spencer Seim of Hella), and Black Heart Procession offshoot Mr. Tube and the Flying Objects. Dates bellow. Pinback: [...]

Laura Pleasants, Kylesa Kylesa is touring with fucking Pinback . I commented last year on another weird tour Kylesa did ( Revolver 's "Hottest Chicks in Metal" tour, with Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, et al.), but this is just bizarre. In case you don't know Pinback, they're indie rock. They have a knack for interlocking vocals and guitars that evoke that time-honored format, the round. But despite their quality (they're one of three indie rock bands [...]

As long as we've been pinback fans here at MUF, which goes back to 2000, there's never been a moment when we could have seen them so close to home. In fact, Pinback (San Diego, CA) have never made it out East other than October 2007 at Philly's own Theatre of the Living Arts. That is why the latest announcement that our boys, Rob Crow and Zach Smith, will be visiting us here on the Right Coast is so riveting. In the meantime, all has been quiet on the Pinback front. Rob Crow had another baby boy [...]
San Diego rockers Pinback are coming to Louisville's Headliners Music Hall on October 10th. I first discovered Pinback after their 2001 Blue Screen Life , which featured my favorite song of theirs to date, Penelope. More recently, Autumn of the Seraphs was released on September 11, 2007. Tickets are $15 and go on sale in four days (8/8) for anyone who is 18+. You can get them at Ear X-Tacy, or ticketweb.com.... Also, show your support for the show by declaring your attendance at Last.fm . [...]

How much time have I spent in cars recently? So. So much time in cars. Got Crystal (Lil\' Wayne, T-Pain vs. Crystal Castles) y segundo- Front to Pinback (T.I.P. vs. Pinback) Dinosaur Comics was especially relevant (to this blog) a few days ago. I admit, Dinosaur Comics is always relevant.
Ok, so, like 6 years ago my friend Tony tossed me a cd of this band called Pinback. And it was just one of those things, the cd came at the perfect time of my life, just in time for me to listen obsessively to it for like 2 years, then put it away in a drawer and never follow up. For me, after about 2005, Pinback no longer existed. But I was, like, CRAZY for that cd, I can't even describe how much I loved it. So I was beyond intrigued to see that Pinback [...]

Kevin Rose, object of many a tech-geek man crush, was recently the latest in a series of guest DJs at KCRW (my favorites being Conan O'Brien and Jason Schwartzman ). As such, Mr. Digg himself got to pick five songs. After slaving away on complex and tedious code for hours on end, it's understandable that Rose would want to pop in some mellow tracks in order to chill. He played some stuff from The Knife, Pinback, Iron and Wine, Bon Iver and MGMT. Now all of you l33t, nerdy code-spewers [...]

Genghis Tron is one of those bands that cross so many genres and boundaries in taste that it's really not hard to enjoy at least something they are doing. Back when I used to run Kitchen Distribution with my friends, these guys were always one of our favorite acts to roll through and paved some memorable moments at our humble little art space. The success they've attained over the years is really well deserved for just how soft spoken and genuine these guys really are, which really is a complete mismatch for their music; loud and bananas. [...]
