★★★★☆ Bristol's Tectonic label, the guardians of the dark arts, ancient secrets and sacred skills in dubstep and bass, set up a third upsurge of aftershocks formed by irresistible militia. After fire is opened by a tremendous opening salvo from venomous scheme team Kryptic Minds, Tunnidge and Pinch send in epically brooding Trojan horses, spearheading a collection armed with tenterhooks, tripwires, knife edges and hair triggers. While the force through restraint and meticulousness is admirable, putting the strange and beautiful into the dead of night, you're thinking it can only be a matter of time before [...]
After their sell-out 3rd birthday, THEM are back at Corsica Studios with another blinding lineup – a techno, house and acid special: 2562 - AKA A MADE UP SOUND (Tectonic, When In Doubt) / PINCH... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

★★★★☆ Fabric Live is on some can't/stop won't stop business, following quality 2011 mixes from Jackmaster, Ramandanman and Four Tet. Bristol UK is once more the epicenter for FWD movement when Rob "Pinch" Ellis quickly puts on his stomping boots and bonds house, techno and acid with stone cold bass that easily wipes out the non-committal. His own remix of Henry & Louis sets a wrecking ball standard, and Boddika & Joy Orbison join the demolition until the joint becomes a write off. Tempos twist this way and that, going flat [...]

Penique Productions [ Swamp 81 ] When we last left Pinch he had just emerged, bleary eyed and soot covered, from Shackleton's subterranean lair. The duo's stunning long-player mined the labyrinthine, murky depths there still unexplored, and our heroes surfaced with crates full of obsidian frequencies and a tarred Gregorian choir. Still a bit scarred from the experience, and with plenty of opaque minerals in tow, [...]

♩ I Can Chase Dragons! - Ceder y Crecer extra: ♩ I Can Chase Dragons! [...]

Yo Dawg, Son Raw heard you like mixes so he found a new mix to promote that new mix. In a year where electronic music enthusiasts had to deal with the ignorant and near-pedophilic youth-obsessions of bloated, aging leeches that pass as "music journalists," watching them desperately try to save their vanishing print-media careers by jumping on "the dubstep thing" – Pinch and Shackleton was a shining light. Easily the best bass music release of the year, it was dark, creative, well produced and the exact opposite of what caught the US [...]
In the latest instalment of the FabricLive mix series, Pinch takes up the reigns with a powerful mix that starts and ends with the same track. It can be listened to on loop, if you want... The... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Its that time of year again when we cleanse ourselves of all the music we have digested and compile it into a nicely cathartic list. During the cleansing process last year we commented that 2010 was unlikely to be considered a vintage year, despite this we still had no problem finding our 'Top 30 Albums'. Unfortunately 2011 in our opinion has prooved even less historically significant, and consequently we have trimmed our list from 30 LP's to just 20. The following list has been compiled and verified by the WeAreBlahBlahBlah writing team. [...]

Frying saxophone solos! Synthesizers recreating lost sunny days! Nihilistically lewd mixtapes inspiring dozens of new entries on Urban Dictionary! Tricked-out dubstep for American mall rats! The musical trends that defined much of 20112s critically-lauded output were roundly ignored by my favorite records of the year. The best albums of the year invented their own one-band microgenres. EMA gave us California confessional poetry, while WU LYF reinvented protest punk for a generation without a cause. Wolves in the Throne Room continued to hone their environmental black metal. Das Racist refined their postmodern identity joke rap. Peaking Lights invented Midwestern dub, and [...]

This collaboration makes sense, both were foundational figures in the dubstep community and had or have hugely influential labels with Tectonic and Skull Disco , respectively. This is where a lot of their similarities end, though, with Pinch more firmly dedicated to the hub of "bass music" and the half-step drum pattern, and Shackleton isolating himself to the colder climes of Germany with a more ethereal aesthetic, having abandoned Bristol for Berlin several years back. Their combination pushes Pinch's record selector impulses over Shackleton's notorious reclusiveness. The darkness, which both regularly imbibe upon, [...]

[ Honest Jon's Records ] Even though he began his career in partnerships with Appleblim, Gatekeeper, Mordant Music, and others, it's difficult not to think of Shackleton as a lone wolf. Over the last few years, releases like Three EPs and Fabric 55 have solidified his voice as one of the most individual in dance music. Pinch, Shackleton's collaborator here, [...]
Bristol bass-kingpin to mix the the first 2012 instalment of popular mix series...
Tu touches pas ce genre de remix.

Pinch & Shackleton's debut album came out last week, much to everyone's surprise. The two dubstep heavyweights managed to pull together a concise piece of work, with mind blowing bass lines and tight percussion jittering on top. It's the kind of music where the elegance lies in its simplicity, as each part is carefully placed into the arrangement. Make sure you listen to this one on loud to fully appreciate it. Torn and Submerged

Pinch and Shackleton Pinch and Shackleton // Jay and 'Ye's Watch the Throne was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of collaboration, a meeting of the minds between minds that, considering their respective stations in life, seem essentially unmeetable. But the album worked precisely because the pair played to their respective strengths: Jay was the gracious host to Kanye's increasingly bracing pronouncements about fame and fortune. As a sort of underground analogue to this dream team, Pinch and Shackleton have released an eponymous album that functions kind of like a Watch the Thrones for the theoretical bass set. And [...]

Sach O sits alone in his four-cornered room staring at empty redbull cans. Pinch & Shackleton is a wonderful exercise in stubbornness. Devoid of easily identifiable signifiers, it's tempting to tag it with complex genre descriptions - post this and step that. But you'd be missing the point entirely. This collaboration between two of Dubstep's second-generation geniuses returns to the community's pre-genre, pre-meme ideals of heaviness and darkness. It uses them to craft a rewarding statement that refuses all pigeonholing. If you really need a reference point, I guess Burial [...]

Originally due for a December release, Pinch (above) and Shackleton 's joint album has been on the cards for the best part of a year. The album is out now on Damon Albarn's Honest Jon's Records. The more discerning Dubstep fan will have known about this release for a while and will be looking forward to followups to both 'Underwater Dancehall' and 'Three EPs' from Pinch and Shackleton respectively. So I'm sure much excitement will abound that both needs will be met in one fell swoop. Drawing together patches [...]
