(Siltbreeze, 2011) Kevin de Broux: Pink Reason: 2007: Cleaning the Mirror : scotch tape epicness. Siltbreeze of course. Have you heard Cleaning the Mirror ? No? Yes? Either way, it's worth revisiting/discovering. It's sooooooooooooo good. Up The Sleeve by pinkreason Kevin de Broux doesn't assemble Pink Reason albums very quickly. Pink Reason isn't prolific. Cleaning the Mirror was six songs, was released in 2007. Four years later for a follow-up and we [...]

Pink Reason — Holding On So: Shit in the Garden . Doesn't exactly scream "pleasant", does it? But what else to expect from Pink Reason (Kevin DeBroux and co.), a group whose '07 debut was basically a beginner's guide to catatonic loneliness and blackened depression? Shit is by no means a repeat of Cleaning the Mirror (as made clear by the unexpectedly rockin' "Sixteen [...]

Sixteen Years by pinkreason Details for this show were sketchy, but it's all firmed up. Wisconsin native and Columbus ex-pat Kevin Debroux of Pink Reason tonight at Carabar (members of Psychedelic Horseshit and TV Ghost as his backing band) playing songs from Pink Reason's new LP (cover above) and the Desperate Living EP. So I didn't make out to any shows the first 10 days of July (including missing Real Estate TWICE and Beach Fossils yet again), and I'm looking to changing that. I've already missed The Roots and Talib Kweli show I was planning on going to, so I'm off to a bad start. Probably the show I want to go to the most over these next 10 days is the Small Black and Beach Fossils show (7/14), which is 21+ so I'm gonna let out a huge FUUUUCK to that shit. (Maybe one of those bands wants to guest list me??? [...]
Last Saturday night saw the actual landing of DNA Test Fest III . There were two important needs for Sean and Chris this year: 1) That the fest not take place in DC, but instead, in Baltimore, where its support would be much larger, and 2) Due to the facts of need 1, this would obviously necessitate a larger venue. Fortunately, Bmore's monster venue, Sonar , was more than happy to oblige. Hosting international acts on a high profile scale, as well as all other levels of music, in its multiple spaces (not to mention hosting [...]

Extra Life keeps their experimental vibe in the song "(Pay Up) The Ladder," while keeping it mainstream enough to keep your average music lover entertained. They kick off their national tour on the 20th, so you can check out their antics for yourself.

Here's the straight-up dirt: I was hoping to post "I'm Gonna Be Your Elevator" or "The Delusion of Man" from The Fresh and Onlys ' Grey-Eyed Girls LP, but I couldn't find a free MP3 to post (and you KNOW I only post the legit shit). So I'm stuck with "Invisible Forces." Truth be told, I'm not enamored with this track. It's got more of a post-punk/UK/Factory Records feel to it that doesn't ring as original as many of F&O's other influences (Rockabilly, jangle/roots punk, '50s rock 'n' roll, [...]

[ Over the next week a shit-ton of Mile High Festival coverage will be hitting this blog, and I'm also doing a short blast on it for TMT . For now though, I'm going to sit down with a recent purchase, the fantastic The World is Lousy With Ideas comp, and review the SHIT out of it. ] It'd take a hella-hot compilation to jump ahead of the fairly recent (and fairly rad) Dark Was the Night comp [...]

Pink Reason, I am really enjoying their album Cleaning The Mirror right now. The best way I can describe them would be if Sonic Youth and Joy Division had a lo-fi baby. I am having trouble finding tracks to listen to over the internet but when I do...I will post them. So really this post is kinda pointless. Have a good Monday.
Clockcleaner is a really really really good noise rock act in the scuzzy tradition of The Jesus Lizard and Foetus. 2007's Babylon Rules simultaneously shoots straight from the hip and straight from the gutter, and anyone who actually enjoys reading my crummy column-for-jerks needs to own it before reading any further. After all, [...]
Psychedelic Horseshit are fucking awesome. Other people seem to agree too, which is nice as we're putting out their debut UK single in July and it'd be good to sell loads and spend the profits on cans of Ting and multipacks of Monster Munch. There's a Vice interview here Spin Magazine article on shitgaze, featuring Times New Viking and Pink Reason too: Drowned In Sound have written about the single here , which was nice. And reviewed [...]
Pink Reason always seemed like a bit of an anomaly when grouped with the other shit-pop bands from Columbus, Ohio. While Kevin DeBroux coaxed out creeky, damaged folk tunes on his 2007 Siltbreeze release, Cleaning the Mirror, Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit were ripping it up with tinny, trebly, and distorted pop gems. All that changes with Pink Reason's latest release, the 7" single "Borrowed Time." It contains all the pleasures of shit-pop -- harsh lo-fi production, hidden melody, and a world be damned attitude, in little more than one minute. MP3: Pink [...]
My boss today told me that Thursdays are the new Fridays. No, you are wrong - shut yer mouth. Fridays will always be Fridays. Thursdays will always be Thursdays. End of story. When someone speaks of such blasphemy, it leads me to think that you accept at least one of the following: A) a pearl necklace, wife beater, jean skirt with black highheeled flipflop combo makes a hot outfit ; B) pets and/or babies will bring happiness to your life; C) "Why Men Marry Bitches" is the best book you've read this past year. Tonight, I drank a [...]

Murky, bluesy DIY goth, great tastes that taste weird together. Green Bay's Pink Reason topped their highly praised 73 debut with their awesome "Cleaning The Mirror" ( Siltbreeze ) 12 inch slab of heroin rock for folkies. Like crying into your whiskey in the middle of summer with Love & Rockets singles spinning on the wrong speed. Pink Reason - Throw It Away Pink Reason - Down On Me, live in Chicago (video)

Welcome to Kevin DeBroux's world of disappointment and depression. Debroux, who records under the moniker of Pink Reason , released the album Cleaning the Mirror on Siltbreeze a couple of months ago and I must say it's absolutely fantastic. As most out there know, it's incredibly difficult to feel good all the time and for those moments when you think you've hit rock bottom, well then Cleaning the Mirror is the type of record that should be at the top of the list to be thrown on [...]

SXSW 2007 list. Yes I know it's over. but I just had time downloading the songs to make lists. This one is the nicest so it goes first. It's a late nite list with consistent sound, very sexy, and bunch of post-rock in each section. I would post more info, were it for not having a chance to carefully look at each artists webpage. But at least the list nice. Enjoy. "I. City of Love " 01. Dislike - Alone (Ufa, RUSSIA) 02. Slot - [...]
