http://pinkshinyultrablast.ban dcamp.com/ / Facebook Whilst not strictly a new band Pinkshinyultrablast from St. Petersburg, Russia formed in 2007 and released an EP in mid 2009 have been relatively quiet until recently by setting up an on-line presence with a the creation of a Facebook / Soundcloud page, one can hope that it's a sign that they four-piece are gearing up to release a follow up, at the very least it's given me a catalyst for this post. The debut EP 'Happy Songs for Happy Zombies' showcases an exhilarating shoegaze / punk-rock [...]

~ Pinkshinyultrablast - "Blaster" ~ And we're off! While dreamy and shimmering as any other shoegaze/post-rock/whatever you want to label this, this track certainly lives up to its name as it blasts off right from the beginning. Sharp and soft at the same time. ~ Lissie - "Wedding Bells" ~ While I like her album Catching a Tiger , I find it a bit too slick and controlled at times. This track however sounds much more stripped and - dare I say? - real. It's simple yet [...]

We'll be the first to admit that some of us here at TDOA have a fascination with Russian culture. Whether it's Tolstoy, Eisenstein movies or the changing political landscape, we can't get enough. And in case you haven't heard, we have a fondness for great music so when we heard Pinkshinyultrablast, we had the best of both worlds. Their own description of themselves as an amalgamation of shoegaze and punk seems spot on to us. In our minds, their the most interesting "shoegaze" band in the world right now. Couple this with a discussion of [...]

Given that it's been almost two months (?!) since we last did this, our inbox is overflowing. We'll give you a few of these over the course of the month and let you get a sense of what we're loving. Please give us your thoughts on these and feel free [...]
Some Russian shoegaze - that's not a dirty word - from Pinkshinyultrablast . Imagine if, after Rachel Goswell had done the woo-woo on that Chapterhouse, she'd somehow become infected with that band's approach and then cross-infected Slowdive. Actually, don't imagine. Watch this instead:
