Chicago's psychedelic, eletro-pop quartet YAWN have unleashed yet another fine looking video. In case you haven't been paying attention, YAWN was voted Best Local Music Video of 2010 by the ol' Loud Loop staff for their otherworldly, hypnotic special effect extravaganza video for "Kind Of Guy" . Now the band returns with a clip for another track from their self-titled E.P. from 2010 for the bouncy, swirling guitars of "Toys". This video is firmly grounded on earth as it follows the whacky adventures of a wayward pinwheel. Check out the video for yourself [...]
Arguably the Andrew Ridgeley to Ben Gibbard's better known George Michael in the mid-90s band Pinwheel, Army Navy front man Justin Kennedy has his work cut out for him if he hopes to make a name for himself solo. So far, judging from his new band's self-titled debut, he sounds content to just play it [...]
Earlier in the week I got a phone call from Army Navy front man Justin Kennedy. If for some reason you don't recognize the name, you may recognize the name of former Pinwheel bandmate Ben Gibbard. Gibbard's had some wonderful success following Pinwheel and Kennedy and company is no doubt set for the same. During the [...]
Whenever we hear Dashboard Confessional yowler Chris Carrabba do his achy breaky, we wonder, just slightly, how much his diehards overlap with the kids, say, screaming 'bout early-period Oberst. No? See if you can get what we're saying when you listen to his new confession, " Thick As Thieves " (wait until he really digs into that "it won't stop bleeee-eeeed-innggg"). If the studio version doesn't cut it, filter his sadness through the talky crowd during a live performance of the track at a show last month in NYC. Guess it's a different sort of emo? [...]

There's something fascinating to me about now-successful musicians early work. Not early work as in that one album that's kinda hard to find except for on ebay, early work like the kind that no one knows exist until your bitter rival unleashes some high school demos halfway through your career. This brings me to the case in point: Pinwheel. Earlier this month Pitchfork reported that Death Cab frontman Ben Gibbard would be joining Justin Kennedy on the road in the latter's new project The Army Navy. So who is this Justin Kennedy you ask? Among other [...]
